The court in 2011 ruled that same-sex
couples could register their relationships
within two years if Colombian lawmakers
did not pass a bill that would extend to
the same benets heterosexuals receive
through marriage.
Legislators in the South American
country subsequently defeated a samesex marriage bill.
A handful of gay and lesbian couples
in Bogot and other Colombian cities

deadline passed in 2013. Inspector
General Alejandro Ordez Maldonado

them to marry.
The court last November issued a
landmark ruling that extended adoption
rights to same-sex couples.
The court was patient and gave the
Congress a chance to legislate, Carter
told the Blade. The failure to legislature
led to this legislation.

Pulte homes are Life Tested, which means theyre built with ideas that come from our own homeowners. But that goes beyond
home designs and finishes. We also choose communities the way youd choose them: great shopping, near Metro stations and an easy
commute to work. Our neighborhoods are also close to parks and recreational facilities that our homeowners tell us they want. Because
we believe you should enjoy coming home as much as you love being home.

Louise Kelley and Richard Oloiza, author and editor of LGBT Baltimore, will
discuss the development of the Baltimore LGBT community from the 1960s
with photos and documents from university and organizational documents and
personal collections. The event, themed Baltimore History Evening, will take
place on April 21 at 7 p.m. at the Baltimore City Historical Society and Village
Learning Center, 2521 St. Paul St., Baltimore.
The University of Baltimore, which hosted a celebration of the recently
published LGBT Baltimore, indicated in a statement:
LGBT Baltimore is the result of an emerging archival eort to preserve
and catalog the history of gay culture in the city. For the nearby Mt. Vernon
neighborhood, a Baltimore cultural landmark with deep roots in the citys lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender culture, the preservation of these materials
signies an important contribution to sustaining the heritage of the community.

CHICAGO The Chicago Department of Health announced Tuesday that two new
cases of meningococcal meningitis have been conrmed in Chicago men, CBS reports.
There are now nine conrmed cases from the Chicago area linked to last summers
outbreak, all in men who have sex with men including one related death last June, the
article said.
Ocials said black men who have sex with men and are living with HIV have been
disproportionately aected. All men who have sex with men are urged to get vaccinated.
Since May of 2015, the Chicago Department of Health has distributed nearly 18,000
vaccinations of which 14,653 have been administered, CBS reports.
The disease spreads through the sharing of saliva and spit, such as in kissing or sexual
contact; or by sharing drinks, cigarettes, marijuana or other smoking devices.
Meningococcal disease also can lead to an infection of the bloodstream, resulting in
fatigue, vomiting, chills, cold hands and feet, severe aches, rapid breathing, diarrhea and
sometimes a dark purple rash, according to the CDC. Left untreated, meningitis can lead
to death within a few hours, according to the CDC.

Hills, lunges rowing and more good techniques
By DAVID MAGIDA
Its race season once again, but this isnt going to be like previous years. This is the year
youre going to hit your PRs (personal records.) Youre going to become the runner youve
always wanted to be: faster, stronger and healthier. But what are you going to add to your
training to help you take that next step forward?
Old school training philosophies have always promoted high mileage as the path
toward running success. But there are other ways to prepare your body for the rigors of
a race. Here are a few training tips to improve your running and help you become a more
well-rounded athlete without piling on the mileage.

races. Yet so often we nish a run and just head on home. Not anymore.
After your easy runs, take a few minutes to run six-10 of these short bursts. Each strider
should be about 80-100 yards long, starting easy, accelerating close to a sprint with long
strides for about 15 seconds, then decelerating for the last few seconds.
Tip: Strides are about getting comfortable with leg turnover and improving form, so
focus on quick feet, long strides, high knees and running tall.
Utilize these ve training tools consistently and you will nd your running changed
forever. Gone are the days when runners merely ran. The best runners in the world
are nding added benets from diversifying their training and you will too. Strength,
endurance, lactate threshold and late race speed can all be enhanced by adding these
elements to your training. And the greatest perk of all? Goodbye boredom, hello fun!

Whats Washingtons best nightspot,

Bar Dupont in the Dupont Circle Hotel
is my ideal night out. They have huge
windows that you can prop up against and
people-watch for hours. They also have
surprisingly great (albeit strong!) cocktails.
Describe your dream wedding.
I got married late last year in what to
me was the perfect wedding. We got
married at the Bowlingly Estate which
is this amazing house built in 1733 on
the Chesapeake Bay. We had a live band
and barbeque and 200 friends and
family. It was the perfect combination of
a D.C. wedding but without a lot of the
formality that no one enjoys.
Trever Faden
The Atlas Lane founder answers 20 gay questions
By JOEY DiGUGLIELMO
joeyd@washblade.com
Trever Faden made a dream reality last month with the launch of Atlas Lane, a new
company he hopes will revolutionize the world of property management.
I started Atlas Lane after having to sell a rental property because I couldnt nd a
good-enough property manager and decided that somebody needed to x property
management, the Roslyn, N.Y., native says.
Atlas Lane (atlaslane.com) is a hub to connect quality tenants who pay on time with
landlords committed to proactive maintenance, property compliance, 24-7 support and
more.
We identied the biggest stressors related to owning a rental property and solved
them, Faden says. Think what Compass/Redn are doing for real estate but instead
for property management.
Faden came to Washington six years ago for school at George Washington University.
He lives with husband Allen Gannett (of the online marketing rm TrackMaven) in Shaw
and enjoys small side projects, playing the ukulele, walking his dog and hanging out with
friends in his free time.

CHRISTOPHER WAYNE, left, and MIKE TYLER say performing nude gave their show a novel twist
thats worked.
By KEITH LORIA
When dazzling audiences with their
collection of illusions and tricks, magicians
Mike Tyler and Christopher Wayne
clearly have nothing up their sleeves
or anywhere else on their body for that
matter as the dynamic duo perform
their magic in the nude.
The two best friends were already
successful comedy magicians in Australia
when the movie Magic Mike came out,
and people started making sexualized
magic jokes because of Tylers name.
We were talking about it and realized
that in the entire history of magic, nobody
had ever made a naughty magic show a
comedy magic show that grabs on to that
inner demon that every single person has
inside of them, Wayne says. We didnt
know for sure that it would work, but we
knew it was a dierent and clever idea.
In no time at all, the two both
straight were the talk of the magic
world and packing in audiences all over
Down Under.
We realized that magic had a cheesy
stigma attached to it that we wanted to
break down. What better way to break
the magic mold than to oer something
that had never been done before and
literally strip away the magic stereotypes
the top hats, capes, magic wands and
the cheesy magic poses, Tyler says. Part
of the reason it works is because its two
best mates on stage whove worked so
hard creating the show to appeal to an
audience that wouldnt normally go to see
a regular magic show.
The Naked Magicians will perform at
the Model Performing Arts Center at
the Lyric in Baltimore on Thursday, April
21 and at the Lincoln Theatre in D.C., on
Sunday, April 24.
Expect to laugh more than you have
in any other comedy show. Expect to see
some of the most amazing magic ever.
Expect to be shocked in the best way
possible, Wayne says. When we were in

Todays roomier rides
trendier than predecessors
By JOE PHILLIPS
Station wagons, minivans and SUVs
have become as fashionable as bell
bottoms and padded shoulders. But
when it comes to todays haulers, these
trendy crossovers are like skinny jeans:
They can really show o your sass.
FORD EDGE
$29,000
Mpg: 20 city/30 highway
0-to-60 mph: 8.3 seconds
Maximum cargo space: 73.4 cu. ft.
When the midsize Edge rst appeared 10
years ago, it seemed like a gloried station
wagon. But Ford sprinkled lots of pixie dust
to create a zippy redo. This includes wraparound headlights, a Lexus-like rear and
sporty dual-exhaust tips. A bit of engineering
magic makes for superb steering and the
impressive, high-quality cabin has lots of
soft-touch surfaces (though the center
console is still clunky hard plastic.)
Keyless entry/ignition and a nifty noisereducing windshield are standard. And
while the base engine is solid, a lively
V6 on the Sport version is especially
quick. Optional safety gear: blind-spot
monitoring, rear cross-trac alert and
lane-departure
warning/prevention.
A forward-collision system adds more
braking if it detects an imminent collision,
and Fords MyKey system helps set
electronic parameters such as speed
and volume control for teens or valets.
INFINITI QX50
$36,000
Mpg: 17 city/24 highway
0-to-60 mph: 6.8 seconds
Maximum cargo space: 47.4 cu. ft.
While Ford was giving its Edge a lot
more edge, Inniti was upgrading its
compact QX50 to compete with a slew of
new luxe crossovers. The result is a longer
TOYOTA HIGHLANDER
$31,000
Mpg: 20 city/25 highway
0-to-60 mph: 7.6 seconds
Maximum cargo space: 83.7 cu. ft.
For even more room, Toyotas popular
Highlander has three rows and seating
for eight. The ride is as quiet and sharp
as the Ford Edge or Inniti QX50, even
during quick cornering (a surprise in such
a full-size crossover.) Two engine choices,
