Urbanism: Proximity, Exchange & Public Space

‘The glue that keeps the city together is public space” Ricky Burdett
Problem:
Sprawling neighborhoods, commerce,
industry and the use of encapsulated high
speed vehicles are a significant destroyer
of communities.

The department of transportation has

succeeded in creating continuous roads,
providing a platform on which to explore
and travel. Simultaneously, these roads
and vehicles have destroyed our sense of
community, our respect for one another,
and our health.
Why does this merit our
concern?
Why are we heavily investing in a system
that does not promote healthy people,
stronger communities, or opportunities
of organic social exchange?

of life of the American people, today and

Is the only reason we feel the need to
travel fast, becuase we live so far?
