strengths We will have good speed and athleticism this year.
We have a lot of guys that are young looking to make their mark
as varsity players in the upcoming year. If we can manufacture
runs and get ourselves off the field quickly we will look to be successful. We are looking to excel at smallball and putting guys in
motion to try to put pressure on defenses. We are young which

could help us if we
have short memories
on mistakes and play
at an elevated effort level
working on We will be working as a pitching staff to be consistently in the strike zone in order to give our defense chances to
get outs and minimize given runs and big innings due to walks.
We will also be looking to finding different and creative ways to
manufacture runs to gain big innings ourselves. We are young so
we will be working to improve with every step
conference The conference is very equal as always. Any given
team can knock off anyone on a given day in the conference.
Everyone has to be prepared to play at a high level in order to
get wins in the on a consistent basis in the Big North as always
goals Goals as always are to improve with each outing,
league title, and a run in the tournament

strengths Our defense is always our
biggest strength. We have a solid pitcher/
catcher combination and our fielders are
always solid. The girls work hard at every
aspect of their game!
working on We have some young girls
playing at some key positions, so we are

practicing like it is game speed and make

sure they make the correct throws to the
proper places! Our seniors Gabby & Jodi
are working with our younger girls and are
showing great leadership and what it takes
to play on varsity and play for championships!
goals To win our first conference title in

record 23-9 regular season
returnees We have seven players returning from last year including seven seniors in
Mason Baker, 1B; Brandon Bode, SS; Brock
Clough, Utility; Brad Dunn, CF; Luke Paddock,
3B/1B; Kameron Musselman, Utility; and Chris
Stanley, 2B/OF. Two juniors in Michael Gingras,
OF and Preston Shazri, C/OF
newcomers Wyatt Baker will help solidify
our outfield as well as be big help in the batting order. Matt Swanson will give us some
versatility on the infield being able to play
multiple positions. Henri Berry will be a strong
addition to our outfield staff.
strengths This team understands what it
means to play as a team. Their competitive
spirit will allow us to compete every time out.
Experience is a definite plus as many of these

players understand what it takes to compete

at this level. Solid defense should be an asset
to this team as well.
working on This team will focus on the
mental aspect of this game. They will also
intentionally develop a hitting approach to
produce quality at bats. Developing depth
on the mound will also be a team focal point.
conference Beal City is the usual suspect
in the Highland along with Pine River. Lake
City may surprise people this year.
goals Success for this experienced Manton
Rangers squad will be determined by the
quality of play as a team. We expect to
compete every time we take the field and
ultimately give us a chance to win the contest. Improvement will be the focus as we
head into a highly-competitive district in the
postseason.

Were looking for team leadership from
these two and experience. They both
had a good bat last season and Dion
offers some speed on the bases.
newcomers We have a very young
team. Junior Adriannah Letts, at shortstop, played a few games on varsity last
year. Were looking for good things from
her and speed on the bases. We have
another senior Kaylee Lutke, who missed
last year, but has returned this year to play
first base. Sophomores Haley Taylor (pitcher & 2nd base) and Isabel Thompson (CF)
and freshman Ashley Parker (LF) will need
to get a few varsity games under their
belt, but I expect them to step up and
get the job done. We also have juniors
Amber Poindexter (3rd, C), Dakota Fersch

year on JV and are expected to step up
and play a big role on the team.

goals With only having two returning

have success if we improve every game.
We want to keep pushing forward, enjoy
the game, and get as many wins as

accomplishments We were 12-2, finished second in our district and sixth at regionals.
returnees - Senior Spencer Sucharski - fourth year as our number one player. Shot in the 70s a
number times and is a great leader for the team. Senior Brandon Boersma fourth-year player,
spent all of last year on varsity. Shoots consistently in the 40s for nine holes. Senior Kaley Thiebaut
fourth-year player.. Can break 100 for 18, and a leader for the team. Junior Treh Helsel- third-year
player. Made huge improvements last year. Can shoot in the 40s for nine holes. Junior Shaelyn
Raymer third-year player. Has made a lot of improvement since last year. She is really hitting the
ball well. Sophomore Hunter Ruell second-year varsity player. Can shoot in the mid 80s for 18 holes.
Strives to improve all the time. Sophomore Silas Seger second-year varsity player. Can shoot in
the 80s for 18 holes. He is a real student of the game. Sophomore Zach Moffit second-year varsity
player. Played No. 5 last year. Can shoot in the 80s. Sophomore Cole Holmes second-year player.

Can shoot in the 40s for 9 holes. He has a ton of potential and is improving a lot. Junior Jacob
Chavalia second-year player. New to the game, but is showing a lot of improvement.
strengths We are very experienced, even though we are still relatively young. The kids are
focused and have attainable goals. We strive to manage the course well and play smart golf. We
are solid off the tee and our irons are strong.
working on Chipping and putting are keys for every player. The better the short game, the better the golfer. All year long, we will try to improve our tee shots, our approach shots, and our short
game.
conference We joined the Mid Michigan Golf Conference this season. It is our first year, so I dont
know much about the competition. I would say Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart or Houghton Lake
are the favorites.
goals We have high exception for this season. We would like to be conference champions, win
districts, finish the top 3 at regionals, and qualify for the state finals.

strengths So far the teamwork and work ethic have been
great and this team loves to have fun. As far as events are

considered, I think that we should be solid in most every one

this year.
working on Going into every track season conditioning is
the most important part. Every event requires so much of each
athlete that the body as a whole needs to get ready for this
grind of a season. Also being at a new school, I will be learning
what each and every athlete brings to the team and start putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
goals Our biggest goals are to 1. Work harder than any other
team. 2. Put forth our best efforts each and every time out. 3.
Win regionals and place very well at Team State.

newcomers Were very lucky to have first-year juniors Grace
Musselman and Angelica Parker running this spring. They are

looking ready to make an immediate impact on the team in

of young people to work with in Elana Bridson, Isabella Bivens,
Anna Giftos, Tabby Bradburn, Abbie Kongeal, Destiny Kangus,
Natalie Lovell, Julia Parker, Katie Swanson and Madison Hillard,
strengths Hard-working athletes willing to try new things and

about speed and quickness. Building a stronger overall athlete
is our goal.

conference Marion won the duel meet season and the

championship meet last year. Until someone takes it from them,
the title is still theirs. However I believe there likely wont be any
one school that clearly separates themselves from the rest. Every
meet is going to be a battle.

our team this year is first-year high school track athletes. That
being said, we have a hard-working group of athletes willing to

returnees Key returnees are senior Laraiah Schichtel in
the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and a key relay team member, senior Hailey Heistand, who will work on vault and
mid-distance and junior Valerie Aten in vault and both
throwing events. Sophomores Kaitlyn Jones and Christina
Frye: Kaitlyn can run anything from a 200 through the 800
and place; she is also long jumping for us. Christina is a
very versatile athlete that is planning on vault, hurdles,
possibly the high jump and a relay team member. Kelsey
Stephan has been our quick girl. Kelsey is a sophomore
who focuses on the 100 and 200 and is a key member of
the sprint relays. Sophomores Kylie Branscombe and Gabby
Brown are a mid to distance runners, both are contenders
for the 3200 relay. Ranessa Cooley is returning to aide our
sprint team and high jump crew. Sophomore Samantha
Russell is a huge asset on our throwing team. She is joined
by Chardonnaie Libbett. Both girls will provide leadership to
the young throwers. Also contributing to the team are junior
Kim Johnson and sophomore Hailey Cockeram; both are
looking at mid to distance events.
newcomers Seniors Serenity Morgan and Rebecca

and snag some points for us in the long jump while Rebecca
will provide needed depth on the mid-distance to distance
teams and also give us flexibility in the 3200 relay. Both girls

Junior Maggie Thom is coming out for the first time. Maggie
is an athletic young lady. Currently she is concentrating on
the high jump and the 400 meter. Maggie is a team player
and will continue to work hard in order to develop her skills.
Freshman Mari McMlure will bring a strong sense of competition to the distance team. Mari had a good season in
cross country and is ready to focus her energies on the 3200,
the 3200 relay and the vault. Hattie Holzhouser is another
freshman mid-distance to distance runner that will assist our
distance team in garnering more points.
strengths This team has been and continues to be
focused on improving their record each year. They are willing
to put in the time to improve and work well together.
working on The biggest challenge is quickly finding the
events that the girls can excel in. Between the incoming
freshman and the new upperclassman we will not be able
to waste any time when we get a chance to be out on the
track in the early season. This is the first time in a few years
that we will have the ability to be flexible with events and
relay team members.
goals The conference championship is always a goal.
I would like for the girls to be able to win their own Lake

and spectators. The girls will continue to feel success with
continued improvement and toughness.

great core for underclassmen to
look up to and set expectations.
Kalob Bellows is a sophomore that
is focused and driven to build on a

a sophomore who had a successful freshman year as a sprinter and
seems focused to build on it.

Emma Wade, sophomores (freshman 2015) Haley Geiger
pitcher, Hillary Duddles- infielder, Maddie Pedlar - all around, but
catcher this year.
newcomers Three experienced sophomores: Hannah Geiger2nd base/outfield, Mackayla Cunningham- all around, Maddie

strengths Even though we are young, most are veteran softball players from summer leagues and JV and should be able to

be competitive with older, more experienced teams. Our pitcher

and catcher are young, but have the drive to work hard through
the offseason and should do well.
working on We will be working on situational plays and making sure everyone understands what their job is in their position
so they can do their best for the team. Hitting the ball hard and
often.
goals - Success will be measured on how well we hit the ball as
a team and play defense as a team.

champions, beat Buckley 6-0 in District semifinal,
fell to Marion 12-7 in district final
returnees Steve Ingersoll is a fourth-year
returner. Steve plays middle infield as well as
pitches and catches. Lucas Garcia (senior) can
play about any position on the field. He primarily
plays third base but will pitch, catch and play
some outfield. Alex Kammeraad (senior) is our
most veteran outfielder. Zack Paulus (senior) is
playing in his second year of high school baseball. Last year Zack spent much of the season as
designated hitter. He will play some outfield this
year as well. Nate McLeod (junior) was a utility
player for us last year spending time in the outfield and corner infield. We expect him to have
a big season this year. Jacob Chase (junior)
outfielder with good wheels and a solid arm. He
will also see a lot of innings on the mound. Zac
McLeod (sophomore). As a freshman last year,
Zac saw time on the mound as well as at first
base and outfield. We expect him to be a regular starter on the mound for us this year.
newcomers Danny Gordon (junior) has yet to
play a spring sport in high school but has shown
a lot of potential in the first few weeks of our season. He is a solid athlete (football and wrestling)
and is very coachable. He will start the season
in the outfield for us and will also play some first
base. We have a class of 5 freshman players
joining us this year. We have been working hard
to bring these guys up to speed so they can
play a role on this team. The freshmen are listed
below: Hunter Perkins (freshman - C, P, 2B, 1B, OF)
Brandon Buckmaster (freshman - 1B, OF) Garrett
Eppinger (freshman - OF, 1B, P) David Stirm (freshman - OF) Jordan Reid (freshman - OF)

strengths We have a really great group of

guys this year. Attitudes have been a great blend
of relaxed and business-like as weve been working hard (mostly indoors). Our defense and pitching have been our strengths over the past few
seasons. On the mound, weve been very efficient at limiting walks and keeping pitch counts
down. This has preserved our arms late in the year
and allowed our defense to make the routine
plays.
working on Offense. We have been working out our pitchers and fielders in the gym
as always, but our emphasis this preseason
has been a dedication to aggressive hitting
and baserunning. We watched way too many
called 3rd strikes last season. Pulling the trigger,
especially on those key 2-1, 3-1 pitches, has
been a focus.
conference Mancelona won the Ski Valley
last year. We finished 5-11 (8th) in the SVC with
a couple of real close losses. I could have easily seen us at 7-9 or 8-8 and finish 5th or 6th. We
graduated 5 starters at the end of 2016 so we
definitely have some starting spots to fill this year.
I would look for Johannesburg-Lewiston, Bellaire
and Gaylord St Mary to all finish near the top of
the standings. Obviously, our goal is to be in that
mix as well. As far as sleepers, I think Pellston will
surprise some teams this year. They didnt win
many games last season but were very young.
As that group matures, they will be much more
competitive.
goals Our team goals include winning our
own Forest Area Invitational on May 7, finishing
in the top half of the conference and winning
our district. All of our other goals, individual or
team, work toward those goals.

scoring from last year. We have pret-

ty good depth. Our defense is tough.

conference Cheboygan and
Roscommon have been very talented
and although both teams have lost some
key players each remains very strong. I
believe we are the favorite to win the
South. Clare, Gladwin, and Crossroads
could each provide stiff challenges however.
goals As always, success is much more
than wins. We want to grow as soccer
players, as individuals, as teammates,
and as Christians. That is our primary goal.
Secondly, we would like to win our third
consecutive divisional crown. We believe
we have a team that can compete
for the overall conference championship
and for a district championship as well.
big games All conference games are
big. Gladwin, Clare, and Crossroads are
divisional foes and are all very important.
We have developed a pretty big rivalry
with Roscommon and Cheboygan due
to their place at top of the Northern
Division.

returnees Seniors: Dirk Smith-200m, 400m, and LJ who
put up great numbers last year, and is aiming for a sub 52
second 400m this year. Colin Stewart-800m, 1600m and
3200m came into his own last year, and worked all winter
to make gains for a great 2016 season. It is our goal to get
these two guys qualified for the state championship this
season.
newcomers Alex Kretzschmer is a first-year senior who
will certainly be our ringer this year in the 1600m and 3200m
and possibly 3200 relay. Freshman Wade Stagg has been

working out his throwing techniques in the shot and disk all
winter, and I look for him to make improvements through
the season and be a real threat in the coming years.
strengths We are very mid/long distance heavy this
year with over half our team fitting into this category of
events. Im expecting many of our LDers to make quite a
showing this season.
working on We really went back to basics this year
and spent much of our early season on top-end running
mechanics, and technique in all field events. With pole
vault making its come back this season at Mesick, and my
taking over coaching the boys team, I really felt that these
issues needed to be addressed to make progress in all our

events.
conference Dont get me started on the Northwest
Conference. Benzie Central or Kingsley every year.
goals We have many first-year athletes this year, as well
as having six seniors leaving us. So we will be a young team
next year, perfect for rebuilding to have the depth needed
to win tournaments and championships in the future. We
always do well individually, and we are looking forward
to seeing these individuals do well this year. We have the
talent at Mesick, we just need to help the kids realize their
true potential.

Last year, he finished in 5th in the 1600 and
2nd in the 3200. This past fall he was the D4
state champ in cross country. Santana is such
a great asset as he can run anything from
the 400 to the 3200 very well. Having Santana
is such a luxury as we always know that we
can pencil in 15 or 20 points heading into
any meet. He is also a very hard worker and
a good leader. Josh Woods 11- Along with
Santana, Josh gives a nice one-two punch in
mid-distance and distance races. Last year
he went :54(400), 2:07(8:00), 4:41(1600) and
10:25(3200). He will be a major part of our success this spring. Major Griffin 11- Major ran 52.5(400)
last year as a sophomore. I believe that he has only
scratched the surface of his abilities. He and Cody
Pritchard will anchor our sprint and relay crew.
When Major gains confidence in his abilities and
learns to prepare, the sky is the limit. Cody Pritchard
11- Cody long jumped over 20 feet last year and
was the heart of our sprint and relay crew. He
made a big jump forward last year as a sopho-

newcomers We have a very nice group of
young distance runners led by freshmen Nathan
Woods and Austin Hamilton. They have the potential to be a very important part of our success this
year. As they develop, they will give us more flexibility in how we use Josh and Santana. Kyle Stokes
9- Kyle has given our older sprinters a run for their
money so far this spring. He adds depth and will be
a big part of our sprints and relays.
strengths Once again, our distance group
should be very competitive with anyone. With
Santana and Josh leading the way and young
guys falling in behind as the season progresses, this
should be an area of great strength for us. Sprints
and relays should also be very solid for us this year.
Cody Pritchard, Major Griffin, Kyle Stokes and Dillon
Danley give us depth and flexibility in the sprints
and are returning to relays that qualified for the
state meet last season. Jumps will also be an area
of strength for us. Zach Parshall was the conference champ in the high jump last season and
earned all-state honors with a 5th place finish at
the state meet. In the long jump, Cody Pritchard,
Ben Randall, Zach Parshall and Dillon Danley were
all over 19 feet last year.

returnees All together I have 8 returning varsity
players from last season. Seniors: Chris Imhoff, Andrew

I also have a sophomore Josh Dorn that spent his

returnees we only had one senior last year and we have
seven starters returning this year. Loraine Foster (1B) returning

Martin (CF) earned a captainship as well. Mikayla Wallace in (LF),
Ashley Hopkins (3B), Dani Beasley (2B) and Nat Burhans (SS). This
makes for a pretty strong starting lineup and we expect they will
do very well this year.
newcomers Syd Sanders will likely take over as our ace pitcher.
Cyana Dellar and Mckenzie Kimball. We have brought them
both up to fill some spots and to prepare for next season. We
will be utilizing them as utility players to get them ready to take
over positions of this years graduates. I have quite a few players
graduating this year. Both are great athletes and I expect they
will settle into their roles very quickly.
strengths This is a solid group overall. I expect our defense to
be very strong this year.
working on Errors! We have to reduce the errors compared
to last season. We lost a lot of games due to errors. I think experience is going to be a huge factor in resolving that, and we are
going to focus on it during practice. We are also putting a lot
of focus on our hitting. We were out hit by most every team we
played last year, even the games we won. We are working on

accomplishments Sidni Rushford and Julianne Griffin both
made the Cadillac News Dream Team
returnees Julianne Griffin. This will be her fourth season as
the varsity starting pitcher. She is a senior team captain and
her leadership will play a large part in our teams fate.
newcomers Sophomores Alyssa Olds, Devin Willard and
freshman Kamryn Myers will add a great deal of speed to this
years team.
strengths Offensively we will have a good balance of
power and speed. We have a number of girls that can hit the
long ball and we plan to be very aggressive on the bases. We
have all three of our pitchers returning from last year and so
we should be solid on the mound.
working on We are very athletic this year and have a lot
of girls that can play multiple positions. We have to sort them
out to see where we need everyone to put the best possible
defense on the field behind what we think is going to be a

solid pitching staff.

conference Central Montcalm is the returning champion
and they would have to be the pick to win again. I think
everyone knows we will be strong this year so I wouldnt call
us a sleeper but we will be in the fight to win it.
goals I began coaching varsity softball at Reed City in
2006. 2008 a was leap year and we made our first trip to the
MHSAA quarterfinals. In 2012, we made our second trip to the
quarterfinals. Its 2016 and a leap year has been good to us.
Our goals are to return to the quarters along with a conference championship. Our secret to success will be if we act
like a team, play like team and be positive in our thoughts
and goals. If we can make the most important individual on
this team the team, great things will happen for Reed City
softball.
big games Our key rivals are Big Rapids and Pine River.
In conference our key rivals will be Central Montcalm and
Chippewa Hills.
