ARSA General Elections SY 2015-2016

Context
The restructuring of the Finance and Business Relations (FiBRe) arm into a cash-in, cashout model supported by the Vice President for Finance and the Director for Accounts and
Corporate Relations (ACRe) has made possible the implementation of better systems and
processes that address the current problems faced by FiBRe, which include the following:
1. Split focus between fundraisers and other operations
2. Disorganized and overly similar fundraisers throughout the organization
3. Lack of avenues for the development of corporate relations skills
4. Lack of coordination with other departments
5. Worn out members due to the current role-rotation system
Vision
My platform focuses on these issues faced by FiBRe at the moment, and aims to further
improve on the current structure of the department, creating a more balanced division of
labor amongst members and a more sustainable model for operations. Moreover, my platform
addresses the issues raised above by proposing the implementation of new systems, as well as
by fostering greater member involvement and development.
Given that, I envision the Accounts and Corporate Relations department to continue
to foster the growth of ARSAns in the fields of finance and corporate relations and to become
sustainable in all its operations. This will be possible through the REORGANIZATION of the task
system and fundraisers and SYNERGY with other departments
ORGANIZE
1. BALANCED TASK SYSTEM FOR MEMBERS
FiBRe members this year were assigned positions from the start, under either the Finance or
Business Relations side of the arm. Each member is either deployed as a Finance or
Marketing point person to projects or as mini-project heads of fundraisers organized by
FiBRe, and while members remain stagnant, they may be assigned to be core team
members of the fundraisers headed by their co-members. Given that fundraisers will
already be handled on a larger scale by the Office of the Vice President of Finance, I
propose to reinforce the current task system in such a way that members will not be worn
out, without compromising the quality of their learning experience. Hence, members will
now only be allocated as point persons to projects under the Vice President of Special
Projects, the Vice President of Finance, and the Hall Board, or to the ARSA Privilege Card
Team. Budget tracking of the rest of the arms will be left to the Director of Accounts and
Corporate Relations, considering the inefficiency of having point persons in the past year.
2. FUNDRAISER CALENDAR SYSTEM
Fundraisers organized by FiBRe itself and by the core teams of special projects (still
spearheaded by the deployed members) have been known to clash and to remain quite
similar, reducing the overall return for everyone, due to the saturation of the market. As
such, I propose a calendaring system, to be included in the organization-wide budget
hearing so as to effectively assign fundraisers immediately to projects and to properly
calendar them, alongside the fundraisers proposed by the Office of the Vice President of

ARSA General Elections SY 2015-2016

Finance. This will ensure that profits will not be split amongst simultaneous fundraisers and
can be split evenly for the benefit of specified projects.
3. ARSA PRIVILEGE CARD TEAM
Managing the ARSA Privilege Card is a year-long initiative. It is necessary to have a team
that can constantly maintain communication with established partners, so as to properly
take care of them and ensure the sustainability of the partnership, thereby easing the
transition into the following years version of the card. This team will consist of members of
ACRE, assigned to contact these establishments in the creation of the card, and to
maintain their relationship with the organization. This team will also be in charge of
providing information about promotions from companies to the Bridges team.
4. FINANCE AND CORPORATE RELATIONS HANDBOOK
The past year, while there was a session for training FiBRe members on the basics of finance
and corporate relations work, members still found it difficult to immediately remember and
apply their learnings. Thus, I propose to create two handbooks, one for finance and the
other for marketing, detailing the procedures involved in each. Input will me provided by
the department managers and edited by the Director of ACRE.
5. COMPILED SUPPLIER SHORTLIST
The search for suppliers of certain products providing them at the best prices has been a
recurring problem for projects. In order to streamline this process, it would be beneficial to
initiate a database of contacts details of suppliers ARSA has already contacted for certain
items necessary for projects. This would make the jobs of project core teams easier,
especially if ARSA eventually manages to establish a sustainable partnership with certain
suppliers for things needed in yearly projects, like glowsticks for ARSAFEST, for example.
SYNERGIZE
1. ACRE and HROD: FINANCIAL LITERACY AND SPENDING HABITS SURVEY
Financial literacy is a major part of life in the Residence Halls, especially for those thrust into
life in a different city. A new initiative that fosters the growth of ARSAns, spearheaded by
the ACRe department and in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President of HROD,
is the Financial Literacy and Spending Habits Survey. This survey aims to collect data on
dormers spending habits as well as their knowledge on financial literacy. The data will then
be used to implement budget talks and will, in turn, foster better relations with ARSAs
corporate partners, by promoting their discounts to the ARSA community. Ideally, this could
become a sustainable practice, providing updated information yearly.
2. ACRE and SECGEN: PRIVILEGE CARD NEWSLETTER
Currently, ARSA is partnered with over 50 companies around the Katipunan area. In order
to foster better corporate relations, I am proposing a new way of promoting these
companiesa newsletter or column in the Bridges magazine. This way, the company is
promoted to the Residence Halls community, and the community is aware of the
promotions available to them.

Essay Question
Why did you choose to run for office? What is your vision for the dorm
community and what are some skills and attributes do you possess that will
help you in reaching this vision? What will ARSA lose if you do not achieve this
vision?
As an active ARSAn since freshman year, fully exposed to the organization by
the upperclassmen at the time, Ive come to realize that its always been in a goal for
me to run for office, as soon as Im able to. ARSA was always a fun org for me, even
as I experienced it through the Marketing and Finance Arm, in the first half of my
college lifethere was always a spirit of family and camaraderie that persisted
through the seriousness of the work involved behind all the projects. I always look back
to my first experience in a somewhat higher position in the organization, as one of the
marketing heads of ARSAFEST 2015. It was, at the time, the most involved Id been in
a major project in ARSA. I cant stress enough how much of a learning experience
being in my first core team was, especially considering how stressful that semester was
for me, in terms of academics. It was fulfilling, having to work all-day contacting
outside companies and all-night reviewing for my exams, and eventually, seeing
everything come to fruition. At the same time, I learned the value of balancing org
work and academics. I had to sacrifice Culminight or accounting midterms, and I
ended up choosing the former and giving up the latter. I think this is where my love for
serving the organization really began to manifest itself, where upon finding out I had
failed the exam only because I had forgotten to pass a sheet full of answers, I didnt
feel as bad as I normally would have.
Now, I envision an organization that continues to foster the growth of ARSAns
who continue to love and contribute to the organization, while at the same time
achieving the sense of personal growth I got from my time serving it. Ive picked up
skills I never thought I would have in my time in collegePhotoshop. Illustrator,
Keynote, communication, and more. Ive had to challenge myself to become a more
well-rounded person and a more competent and compassionate leader, especially
given that ARSA is really a people-centered organization. I believe that everything
Ive been through, inside and outside ARSA, has really molded me as a better person
and taught me things I never would have learned in the confines of a classroom, and
I firmly want to continue to work for this organization, to see it grow into a more wellrounded organization geared towards member development.
