Model Setup

As per our site arrangement, on both sides of pipe testing section the supporting system consist
of several components including blank flange, anchor bolts, 80 nos. lifting jacks,5 nos. 1.8*1.8m
steel plate and concrete slab 2.4*2.2*0.1m against to undisturbed soil.

Calculation Process
Calculation for the pressure load:

Basic parameter:
p (test pressure)=16.5bar

D(diameter of the pipe)=1.6m

A(area of pipe section)=*D^2/4=3.14*(1.6)^2/4=2.0m^2

F(force due to the water pressure)=p*A=33*10^2KN

5.2

Calculation for member bars bearing capacity and stability

1. Bearing capacity verification:

[](member allowable strain)=90MPa
F0(bearing force of one lifting jacks)=5*500KN=2500KN(quantity is 5,one lifting force is 500KN )
F1(the total bearing of the members)=3300-2500=800KN
Fa(the force of one member)=800/80=10KN
Fd(the force of the design)=1.5*10=15KN
A0(Area of one horizontal section of member bar )=*27^2/4=572.3mm^2
Page 6 / 7

(the strain of one member bar)=15*1000/572.3=27Mpa<90Mpa =[]( member allowable

strain)
The member bars are safe to afford the pressure load.
2. Compression stability verification:
The member bearing the force of the pressure load, should also has the stability to avoid In-plane
instability, the analysis model is shown below:

The Eulers formula are used to calculate:

1(length ratio of the member)=*l/i=2*500/6.75=148>=100
(length coefficient of the member)
L(length of the member)

i(radius of inertia of member section)

(standard length ratio of the member)

Fcr=^2*E*I/(2*L)^2=514.15KN >Fd, safe!
Fcr(allowable bearing force of press-bending)
ratio of radius Emodulus of elasticityImoment of inertia

5.3

Bearing capacity of concrete slab:

Fn(straining on the con-slab)=F=3300KN

=Fn/Acon=3300*1000/(2.4*2.2)=3.25Mpa<[con]=28Mpa,safe!
[con] (the design value of the grade 35 concrete)
The bearing capacity of soil:
=800/(2.4*2.2)=0.15MPa<[soil]=0.6Mpa safe!
