Sa'ad bin ar-Rabi'ah generously offered to give up his two orchards and divorce one of his wives so that Abdur-Rahman Bin Auf could have them, in order to help his brother after migrating to Medina. Abdur-Rahman politely declined and instead only asked Sa'ad to show him the market. The story illustrates the spirit of generosity that the companions of the Prophet Muhammad showed to each other, especially in helping the migrants who arrived in Medina with nothing.

In the name of Allah, the most gracious the most merciful
My beloved brothers in islam. From this stage, I would like to share you all about the story of GENEROSITY practiced by two companions of the prophet [peach be upon him] in islamic history. In this opportunity, I would only present one simple form of generosity practiced by two noble companions of the prophet [peach be upon him] Abdurrahman Bin Auf from Meccah and Saad bin ar-Rabiah from Madeena [may Allah bless and grant them]. This story was taken place in Medinah when the prophet [peach be upon him] and his companions [may Allah bless and grant them all] arrived there on thier migration or hijrah. Once arriving in Madeena, the Prophet [peach be upon him] in his unique manner began pairing off the Muhajirin and the Ansar. This established a firm bond of brotherhood and was meant to strengthen social cohesion and ease the destitution of the Muhajirin. Abdur-Rahman at the moment was linked by the Prophet [peach be upon him] with Saad ibn ar-Rabiah [may Allah bless and grant him]. Saad, in the spirit of generosity and magnanimity with which the Ansar greeted the Muhajirin, said to AbdurRahman: My brother!!!! Among the people of Madinah, I am the most wealth. I have two orchards and I have two wives. See which of the two orchards you like and I shall vacate it for you and which of my two wives is pleasing to you and I will divorce her for you. Allahu Akbar My beloved brothers in islam. Do you see what happened to Saad [may Allah bless and grant him]. Do you know why he offered his belongings and do you know what basis him doing so. Subhaanallah!! Saad believed at the moment that what he has got was nothing in the sight of Allah except those what he spent on the sake of Allah the Almighty. His belief was based on the holy words of Allah as stated in Quran chapter number 2 verse number 261 (what means): The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. My beloved brothers in islam. Hearing this exraordinary offering, Abdur-Rahman was not happy and even he was very embarrassed and sincerely said in reply: My brother, May God bless you in your family and in your wealth. But what I want now is please just show me where the market is. Brothers,,,, look! Saad shows his generosity by offering his orchards and wives for the sake of his brother. This is a real form of generosity. What about our condition now? Can we follow the practice of generosity performed by the two companions above?
My beloved brothers in Islam
