The Design for the Golden Boys Design studio required two executive offices, a
large formal meeting area, a small meeting area, a breakroom, a reception area,
and six open office spaces. The spaces were designed with function, office flow
and convenience in mind. When entering the studio customers are greeted by a
welcoming reception area and a comfortably furnished waiting area. The informal
meeting space is conveniently located on the second level close to the executive
office. The space is functional and has a sleek design with a table and seating for
four. The executive offices is finished with a desk and chair that represents the
status of its occupant. The overall atmosphere of the Golden Boys Design studio
if professional, comfortable and functional.

Environmental Goal
Xeno has set the standards high for sustainable design. The
companies head quarters is located in the Untied States and insures
that all of their buildings comply with Green Building Councils LEED
building standard and wants the same for their company located in
Avignon, France. The goal is to create a sustainable building for Xeno
by acquiring at least a minimum certification level rating of LEED Gold
when the project is complete. The Xeno building located in France
will also comply with ADA standard to ensure the buildings usability
by all Xeno employees and customers.

Concept Statement
The Xeno headquarters in Avignon, France will be beautifully created
meeting their high standards for green design. Universal design
principle will be implemented throughout the facility and ADA
standards will be met to insure all employees needs are met. The
facility will boast open spaces with cool and neutral color schemes
enhancing the open airy feel of the working environment. Sleek,
contemporary furnishing with clean line will adorn the spaces.
Furnishing will be functional focusing on ergonomics enhancing the
work environment.

Geography of Avignon, Provence, France:

Unlike the United States of American where our country is divided into
states, the country of France is divided into regions. Provence is one of the 22
metropolitan regions located in the southern part of France. Within the region of
Provence, there are 6 departments. The city of Avignon is located within the
department of Vaucluse (Map-France).
On the west side of Provence is the Rhone River, on the east side is the

Italian boarder, and on the southern side it boarders the Mediterranean sea.
The region of Provence has a very Mediterranean climate. The summers
are very hot and brutal, the winters are mild. The climate in this area is very unique
and tropical due to the hot air of the Sahara that crossed the sea to the south and
the colder air of the Alps ("Province of Provence, France.").

Effect of
Geography:
The geography of a place can have

various affects on sustainable design.
Geography describes the attributes and
specifics of a region, including its
climate and landscape. The purpose of
sustainable design is to reduce the
negative effects that a design will have
on the environment and how we
should renew, reuse, and recycle
(Online Lecture) products in our design.
With sustainable design the less
damage that we do to the environment
and the more we preserve as much of
nature as possible, the better our
environment will be.
REASON:
By studying the geographical

location in which we want to
build, we may be able to create
a design that does not have a
harmful effect on the
environment and help preserve
our natural resources
Finding a location that has
previously been disturbed or
built upon is a better choice to
develop, then disturbing the
natural landscape of a nondeveloped area.
Consider using all green building
products to reduce the pollution
and damage to the environment.
EXAMPLES:
When we look at Avignon, within Provence,

France, the major aspect that we have to
consider is its geographical location, with its
climate, landscape, and natural resources.
Both the fall and spring bring lots of rain to
the region, so incorporating a rain retention
system could help with preserving the water
use from the Rhone River. Avignon, also has
a very warm summer season with lots of
sunshine, including the use of solar panels in
the design could help reduce the energy
consumption and the greenhouse gases that
building put off. Another solution for
sustainable design is building into the
environment instead of leveling certain
terrains. Avignon is also known for its wind
gusts called mistrals, so having wind
turbines may also be beneficial.
Understanding the geography is the first
crucial step in sustainable design.

The Fayetteville Community Education Center,
located in Tennessee, is housed in a building formaly
used as a retail store. The education center required
an information center, checkout desk, librarians office,
work room, small confrence room, multipurpose room,
storage, research station, library, childrens area, reading
area, multi-purpose area, breakroom and family
restrooms.

The education center was brilliantly designed

encompassing both the rich history of the
community and a contemporary design that reflected
the commuties movement into the future. Neutral
colors were used throughout the center with
splashes of colors to enrich the spaces. The
childrens area was designed to inspire imagination
through the use of color and fun, functional furniture.
Furniture forms will have a sleek design and will be
easy to maintain. Local Historical and community
images were stratigicall placed thoughout the
spaces keeping the center intouch with the towns
history.
