Fausat Wahab Annual Scholarship

Purpose

An academic year scholarship awarded to a female undergraduate student whose


thesis research reflects state-of-the-art utilization of available technology in
solving engineering problems. In memory of Fausat Wahab, a woman of virtue
(just an example).

End of first semester (I know semester varies across universities, suggest something)

Eligibility

Full-time female undergraduate student in good standing (Minimum of second class, lower division)

Amount

100,000 Naira stipend and certificate

Program Description
The scholarship is awarded in the first semester annually to a female undergraduate student whose
thesisresearch reflects state-of-the-art utilization of available technology in the areas of engineering
sciences to solve a local problem. The proposed work will be judged on the basis of creativity and
innovation. In particular, a novel application of basic science and engineering knowledge in
design and development is given much greater emphasis than a conventional use of off-the-shelf
technology.

Eligibility Criteria
Only full-time female undergraduate student in good standing (2:2) will be considered.The
awardee must have fulfilled all requirements of under graduate to qualify her for thesis work and
have selected a thesis research project at the time of application.

Funding

The scholarship consists of an honorarium of 100,000 Naira and certificate. The recipient will be
recognized at the APWEN Awards Banquet in the semester following the deadline.
Application Procedures and Documentation
Departments may nominate up to two candidates through their under graduate coordinators
based on innovation and creativity in thesis research proposal. The application consists of the
following sections:
Cover page

Brief description of thesis research. Each candidate will write a one to two-page
description of her proposed thesis research that should clearly identify the innovative
use of technology

A letter of nomination from the departmental undergraduate coordinator.


Two letters of recommendation, including a letter from the research director
committing the resources to complete the proposed research.
Undergraduate and graduate transcripts

The material submitted to the selection committee must permit the committee, after selection of the
awardee, to convey the significance of the research to the public and make apparent to scholars the
excellence of the research accomplishments.

Name the nomination file as [Last Name], [First Name] FWAS. For example, the
nomination for Tunde Jewel would be named as "Tunde, Jewel FWAS."
Application Deadlines
Application deadline is at the end of first semester.
Evaluation Criteria and Procedures
The selection committee will look for originality, creativity and productivity. Factors to be considered
will also include the scope and difficulty of the research, degree of innovation and independent thought,
development of new ideas, techniques and methodology, and the significance of the candidate's
research to his or her field.
The APWEN Lagos Chapter appoints a selection committee whose members have established
scholarly records. The committee members, at their discretion, may seek additional
consultation.
Award Procedures and Conditions
Awards are presented annually. However, if there is a lack of outstanding candidates, an award may
not be granted.

The nomination needs to come from the nominee's department through the graduate coordinator.
