Operation to add EVDO service in CBTS

Prepared by Juan V. Portillo

Hardware Considerations
The CECM Board or The Compact-BTS EV-DO Channel Module is a CDMA2000
1xEV-DO service processing board. It processes the CDMA2000 1xEV-DO
service data on the forward and reverse channels.
Although the CECM board can be installed in any of the positions it is
recommended to use slot number 5 in the case of both 3606 3606E and 3606A
3606AE BTS.
For BTS 3606/E and 3606A/AE the following considerations must be taken into
account:
-Number of carriers that the site posses: if the site has an S3/3/3 configuration or
lower a new carrier module needs to be configured and 3 CMTR and 3 CMPA
boards must be added in slots 0,2 and 4 or 3 OMPA and 3 OMTR in the case of
BTS 3606AE. In the case that it has an S5/5/5 or S4/4/4 configuration no board
other than the CECM is needed. (Refer to the Hardware installation Manual if
new boards need to be added)
Special considerations must be made in the data configuration the add CMTR
and CMPA boards:
To add the TRM boards in 3606 use these commands:
ADD CBTSTRM: BTSID=278, TRMID=0, RCKTP=MASTER3606, SN=0, DUPTP=DDU,
DUPSN=0, TRMDES="TRM0";
ADD CBTSTRM: BTSID=278, TRMID=2, RCKTP=MASTER3606, SN=2, DUPTP=DDU,
DUPSN=1, TRMDES="TRM2";
ADD CBTSTRM: BTSID=278, TRMID=0, RCKTP=MASTER3606, SN=4, DUPTP=DDU,
DUPSN=2, TRMDES="TRM4";

To add the TRM boards in 3606AE use these commands

ADD CBTSTRM: BTSID=278, TRMID=0, RCKTP=RFC3606AE, SN=0,
MASTERBRD=CRDM1, FIBPN=0, FIBTS=0, TRMDES="OMTR0";
ADD CBTSTRM: BTSID=278, TRMID=2, RCKTP=RFC3606AE, SN=0,
MASTERBRD=CRDM1, FIBPN=0, FIBTS=0, TRMDES="OMTR2";
ADD CBTSTRM: BTSID=278, TRMID=4, RCKTP=RFC3606AE, SN=0,
MASTERBRD=CRDM1, FIBPN=0, FIBTS=0, TRMDES="OMTR4";

RSSIFLTRSWT=OFF;

DIVBYPASS=ON is used when al slots of the of the carrier module are in use.
Setting BTS Standing Wave Alarm Threshold:
SET CBTSVSWRALMPARA: BTSID=278, BRDID=0, VSWRALMTHDSWT=ON,
VSWRALMORGTHD=15;
SET CBTSVSWRALMPARA: BTSID=278, BRDID=2, VSWRALMTHDSWT=ON,
VSWRALMORGTHD=15;
SET CBTSVSWRALMPARA: BTSID=278, BRDID=4, VSWRALMTHDSWT=ON,

Setting BTS Fan Speed Parameter:

SET CBTSFANPARAM: BTSID=278, FANTYPE=RF, FANID=0;
SET CBTSFANPARAM: BTSID=278, FANTYPE=RF, FANID=2;
SET CBTSFANPARAM: BTSID=278, FANTYPE=RF, FANID=4;

-Number of E1 trunk cables installed in site: each E1 trunk cables provides the
BTS with 4 E1s and if more than 4 E1s are needed the second trunk cable must
be installed; so it is imperative to know how many E1s are available on site and
how many are in use, to do so the command LST BTSLNK can be used to see
which and how many E1s are assigned to this site.

BSC Side: Configuration.

Adding IMA Group:
In order to add DO service to a BTS we need to assign an IMA group from the
DO CIPS to the BTS, (For the purposes of this manual the DO CIPS is frame
number 3)
ADD IMAGRP: FN=3, SN=SN0, BTP=CBIE, BIEIMAGN=6, BIEE1LST="5,6",
BIETXCLKMD=CTC, TXFRMLEN=L128, IMAVER=VER11;

Adding Signaling Link (If Needed)

The signaling link between DO CIPS and BTS must be added in order to
establish EVDO service in the site as shown in example 1(In some cases DO
and 1X services are shared by one CIPS in which case no signaling link should
be added, the only thing that should be taken in to account in this situation is the
links bandwidth: number of carriers per sector times number of sectors times
33.3).
Example1:
Add BTS EVDO Signaling link for BTS_278 with the following parameters:
-DO CIPS FN=3
-IMA Group number=6
- SIGLNKFLG="1-254"
ADD BTSSIGLNK: BTSID=278, FN=3, SN=SN0, LM=IMA, IMAGN=6, SIGLNKFLG="1254", LNKBW=BW110K;

Adding Traffic Link for DO

An independent Traffic link should be added for each baseband processing
board. The bandwidth of this link is in direct proportion with the number of

channel elements (CE) provided by the board. Use the following formula to
calculate the required bandwidth:
The bandwidth of the traffic link = the number of channels provided by the
baseband processing board x 20k.
Run the Following command to add the traffic link:
ADD BTSTRFLNK: BTSID=278, FN=3, SN=SN0, LM=IMA, LNKTYP=EVDO, IMAGN=6,
TRFLNKLST="1-247-4", LNKBWDO=BW3.6M;

Adding CELL and Sector for DO

ADD CELL: BTSID=278, MN=0, CN=1278, SCTIDLST="1,2,3", PNLST="4,172,340",
SID=31488, NID=0, PZID=1, BNDCLS=BC800, LAC="0x23", LCN=1278,
LSCTID="0,1,2", ASSALW1X=NO, ASSALWDO=NO, IFBORDCELL=NO,

Add Cell: This command is executed to add cells. It is used to add sectors to a
BTS. The parameters to take into account when issuing this command are:
BTSID which is provided by the costumer,
MN (Module Number) this can be queried by issuing the command LST MDU:
FN=3; the frame number is equal to that of the EVDO CIPS,
CN (Cell ID) generally we add 1000 to the BTSID to obtain this value this is done
because the BTS connects to two different BSC modules one for 1x and an other
for DO,
SCTIDLST (Sector ID List) these are the number of sectors that are added to a
BTS this parameter is given by the costumer and the RF department,
PNLST (Pseudo Noise Code List) this code is assigned to each sector in order to
be differentiated by the Mobile Station; these parameters are also provided by
the costumer and the RF team,
SID (System ID) provided by the costumer, in the case of Movilnet it is 31488
NID and PZID the Network ID and the Packet Zone ID should be provided and as
the SID should be the same for all sites,
LCN (Local Cell ID) is the same as the CN,
LSCTID (Local Sector ID) in contrast with that of the BSC side that sectors are
numbered 1,2,3 the local sector id or that of the BTS side are numbered
0,1,2 special consideration should be given to these two parameters in order to
avoid any problems in the configuration.
Adding DO Carrier
Carriers or CDMA Channels should be added one for each of the added sectors,
also a sort of standard is to always name the DO carrier CRRIDLST=6 as a way

to easily differentiate it. Color codes are unique to each BSC and can be queried
using the command LST DOCS, Sectorid24 are unique within a BSC and all
begin with 0x and contain no more than 6 digits.
ADD CDMACH: CN=1278, SCTID=1, CRRIDLST="6", ARFCNLST="589", TYP=EVDO,
IFBCDMACH=NO, COLORCODE=11, SECTORID24="0X000019";
ADD CDMACH: CN=1278, SCTID=2, CRRIDLST="6", ARFCNLST="589", TYP=EVDO,
IFBCDMACH=NO, COLORCODE=11, SECTORID24="0X000020";
ADD CDMACH: CN=1278, SCTID=3, CRRIDLST="6", ARFCNLST="589", TYP=EVDO,
IFBCDMACH=NO, COLORCODE=11, SECTORID24="0X000021";

BTS Side: Configuration.

As an example lets assume that BTS278 was a S3/3/3 configuration and is
going to be upgraded with a DO carrier.
-The first step to incorporate an EVDO carrier would be to add a resource pool:
You can query the BTS resource pool configuration by issuing the command:
DSP CBTSCFG: BTSID=278, CFGID=CBTSCPL;

In BTS 3606 and 3606A the CE Pools are normally configured one pool for each
carrier and since the BTS has 3 1x carriers they would be 0,1 and 2; taking in to
account that in the future this site might be upgraded to a S6/6/6 configuration
CE Pool IDs 3 and 4 should be reserved for this purpose. So to add the CE Pool
for DO Pool ID 5 should be used. (This is just a suggestion to keep an order to
things)
ADD CBTSCPL: BTSID=278, CPLID=5, CPLMODE=STATIC;

-The second step would be to add the N7 Link: in most cases the costumer will
provide 2 E1s for an EVDO carrier, for this we should add a different link group
for the DO E1s.
To query which Link groups have been configured we can use the following
command
%%DSP CBTSCFG: BTSID=278, CFGID=CBTSLNKGRP;%%
RETCODE = 0 Execution succeeded
BTS Transmission Link Set Configuration
---------------------------------------

Board Type Board ID Link Set No. Link Set Type

BCIM

IMA

(Number of results = 1)
---

END

To query which links are assign to this group we need to issue the following
command:
%%DSP CBTSCFG: BTSID=278, CFGID=CBTSLNK;%%
RETCODE = 0 Execution succeeded
BTS Transmission Link Configuration
--------------------------------------Board Type Board ID Link Set No. Link No
BCIM
BCIM

0
0

3

(Number of results = 1)
---

END

After issuing these commands we get that Link Set No is 0 which tells us that link
group being used is 0 so we can add the second link group (1) as follows:
ADD CBTSLNKGRP: BTSID=278, BRDID=0, LNKGRPTP=IMA, LNKGRPID=1;

After adding the link group we need to assign the links that are going to be used:
ADD CBTSLNK: BTSID=278, BRDID=0, LNKGRPID=1, LNKID=4&5;

-The third step would be to add the CECM board: which as was mentioned
before should be added in slot number 5.
ADD CBTSCECM: BTSID=278, BRDID=5, CPLID=5;

-The Fourth step is to add the signaling link for DO:

add cbtstersiglnk:btsid=278,ipver=ipv4,bscip="80.13.130.0",
btsip="80.13.130.122",btssnm="255.255.0.0",brdid=0,abislnktp=cdmado,
bearertp=atm, grpid=1;

-The Fifth step is to add the traffic link:

add
cbtstertrflnk:btsid=278,cpmid=1,bscvpi=1,bscvci=245,btsvpi=1,btsvci=245,pvcidx=
6,bcimid=0,bearertp=atm,lnkpor=2,lnkgrpid=1;

The BSCVCI and BTSVCI when adding a Do carrier should be 245 (Remember
that for 1x Carriers are 250,249,248,247 and 246) this is done in order to foresee
any more carrier growths on this site.
-The Sixth step is to add the sector carriers: (See Hardware Preparations for
information on how to add the TRM boards)
add
cbtssectorcarrier:btsid=278,localcellid=1278,localsectorid=0,crrid=6,trmid=0,cplid=
3;
add
cbtssectorcarrier:btsid=278,localcellid=1278,localsectorid=1,crrid=6,trmid=2,cplid=
3;
add
cbtssectorcarrier:btsid=278,localcellid=1278,localsectorid=2,crrid=6,trmid=4,cplid=
3;

-The Seventh step is to configure the sector parameters:

Use this command to set the cdma2000 1xEV-DO sector parameters. You can
use this command to adjust some parameters of a cdma2000 1xEV-DO cell to
optimize the overall performance of the network. If the parameter setting is
improper, the network performance may deteriorate.
SET CBTSCDMADOSECTORPARA: BTSID=278, LOCALCELLID=1278,
LOCALSECTORID=0, CRRID=6, MTRLGY=MET, MAXCELLR=32;
SET CBTSCDMADOSECTORPARA: BTSID=278, LOCALCELLID=1278,
LOCALSECTORID=1, CRRID=6, MTRLGY=MET, MAXCELLR=32;
SET CBTSCDMADOSECTORPARA: BTSID=278, LOCALCELLID=1278,
LOCALSECTORID=2, CRRID=6, MTRLGY=MET, MAXCELLR=32;

A BTS has a set of default settings for the cdma2000 1xEV-DO sector. Therefore,
avoid modifying the sector parameters.
-The Eighth step is to save the configuration to the BAM:
SAV CBTSCFG: BTSID=278;
