Past :
Once Nellore is a small town surrounded by potential
villages and agrarian dependent. The name Nellore is derived
from the Tamil word neli vooru and it has become Nellore
and previously as per history the name was Vikrama
Simhapuri

The Nellore is having highly potential villages


surrounding by, due to river penna delta lands and the
farmers will harvest 3 crops per annum .
The main trade on those days is Rice and famous for Nellore
molagolakulu rice even today, and most of the people
demands for this quality of rice through out India.

The villages are city serving in all aspects like milk,


vegetables ,rice and town serves the villages in respect of
education and famous for venkatagiri rajas college and most
of the students from villages prosecuted their studies from
this college only.

Now the city also transformed as a hub for the Corporate


medical institutions ,and for specialty medical facilities with
infrastructure .

The new Medical institutions, University and Engineering


colleges gave a big platform for lecturers, associate
professors, professors and for general staff. And does
attracted huge migrations from various parts of India.
The above factors also resulted in socio economic
development and increased the demand for housing and
thus the individual economy and purchasing power has
been increased, and changed the life styles of Nellore city.

But at present the existing Infrastructure is not matching


with the density levels of the city, and also the
infrastructure was not up graded matching with the above
developments.
In addition to this now the city has been transforming as a
port city, power city and SEZ city as shown in next slide.

It is estimated that by 2030, about 1.5million people will be


residing in Nellore city as per new master plan report but
the bifurcation of the state will also influence the city in
drastic changes in the pace of the city. This change is not
considered in the master plan.
The increasing number of opportunities and abundant of
employment happening in the area with three major ports and
port related projects like

3. DUGARAJAPATNAM PORT
and industries in SEZs like APACHE, MENAKUR, SRI
CITY etc.,

and many more Lubricant plants, sugar refineries, cement
and steel manufacturing plants coming up around the ports.
SBQ Steels with 0.5 Million MT steel integrated plant is
already operational near the port. other industrial
developments like Leather park and IFFCO Kisan SEZ are
also coming up around the port.

To have a effective control and


enforcement in the region of Nellore and
to have systematic and
integrated
development and to up grade
the
infrastructure
and
to
implement
development projects, the Government
of AP proposed the NUDA

The jurisdiction of NUDA is proposed to be covered


with an area of 7169.93 sq kms around Nellore City
and consists of Nellore Municipal Corporation, 5
Municipalities, 1 Nagar panchayat and 33 Mandals
consisting 680 village settlements as shown on the
map below.

,GNT road ,NH 5 and other major
net works of the city and also to de
-congest the city core and to
encourage satellite town ships and
CBDS the Government of AP has
proposed an outer ring road .
