Hello everyone, today Im going to talk about something that really matters.

It is actually
a matter of life and death. This subject actually creates a huge debate nowadays. In fact its
something that concerns us all since we are the future of this world. And thats why its our duty
to make this world a better place to live for us and for the future generations. This subject is
related to justice, and as we all know justice has been questioned for a long time. Let me give
you an example, if someone commits a huge crime and every proof is against him, what will
happen to him? Well in most countries he will just be sent to a long holiday in jail. But in some
countries criminals are condemned to something very casual : death. Indeed, a method that was
used centuries ago is now in the center of many debates. But Ill show you why this barbarian
method should be forever banned.

First of all the idea of condemning someone to death goes against the principle of
equality. In fact, as we know our society is based on Human rights. And those same rights are
being broken by the death penalty. Lets take first the article 3 of the Human Rights that says
every human being has the right to live. This means that as human beings, we all have the
right to live, and no one should take away that right from us. If we look also at the article 5 we
can read no one should be tortured or treated in an inhuman way. This second article also
shows us the importance of human life and that no one should have the right to take away our
lives.
All of these elements lead us to the fact that justice isnt perfect. Indeed during history, a
lot of innocent people were condemned to death and only after that people realized that those
people were innocent (Claude Jones, Jesse Tafero). And even if we go beyond the innocence or
not of someone that doesnt take away the fact that nobody should have the right to decide if
someone deserves to die or not. Now if we take a look a what trials are nowadays we can
definitely understand that justice is not equal at all. Indeed, during trial, the race of the convicted
plays a big role in the final decision. There is also the fact that a rich person convicted will be
able to hire a good lawyer and get better chances to avoid any sentence.

Even for heartless people, the facts show that death penalty is simply inefficient. In fact,
let me just give you some simple numbers. 80% of the death penalties in the us are given in the
southern states, which also have the highest criminal rates! (FBI report) This actually means that
death penalty doesnt scare criminals, it has the opposite effect. In fact, because of death
penalty, criminals become more violent because they have nothing to lose. If they get caught,
there is a risk that they will be executed, so they try their best not to get caught.
Death penalty goes also against the concept of a prison. In fact, a prison is supposed to
be a place where criminals are supposed to be educated to prevent them for doing other crimes.
And even if this is not completely the case, we cant deny the fact that there is still hope for
them. If a criminal gets caught, hes supposed to be punished and then released not killed!
Even if we take a religious point of view, death penalty is still pointless. Any religion preaches

about forgiveness, and nobody has the right to play God by decided if someone should live or
not.

Lets now look at how people that support death penalty defend themselves. According
to them, death penalty is a good thing for society. If fact, someone executed usually costs less to
the government than prison. But can you really put a price on someones life?
Another argument frequently used is that prisons nowadays are full and dangerous
criminals should be killed in order to free some space. Well here again we notice how
nonsense those arguments are. Is it really worth it to kill someone to free some space?
Definitely no.

As a conclusion, we can say that despite all the opposite arguments, human life is
priceless. I think that people should stop seeing someone as a criminal but as a person who
made mistakes. Most importantly no one should be able to decide if someone has the right or
live or not. The subject of death penalty is quite controversial in Morocco. In fact a lot of people
were condemned to death for reasons that are not that important. But it was abolished not a
long time ago. Finally I want to finish with a quote form The Lord of The Rigns that says : Many
that live deserve death. And some that die deserve to live. Can you give it to them? Then do not
be too eager to deal ou death in judgement.
