CEILCOTE 505 Coroline

Glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin coating for steel and concrete surfaces exposed to
severe process conditions

Description
The well-proved epoxy resin based CEILCOTE 505
Coroline system is reinforced with one glass fibre
layer and can be subjected to severe process
conditions. The thickness of applied coating is
approx. 4 mm.
Typical uses
CEILCOTE 505 Coroline is perfectly suited as a
lining system for structural components made of
both concrete and steel that are subjected to
aggressive and destructive media, especially acids
and strong alkaline media. The coating is also
frequently used as corrosion resistant floor
covering. Typical fields of application are:
lining of tanks
lining of trenches
substructures for appliances/equipment
lining of process equipment
floor coverings
Advantages
resistance to temperatures of up to 80C
excellent adhesion to steel and concrete
substrates
superior mechanical properties
successful application in areas that are
exposed to aggressive media, e.g. alkaline
pickling agents, acids and organic chemicals
Chemical resistance
Information on the chemical resistance properties
will be provided on request.
Substrate
Structural components made of either steel and/or
concrete may serve as substrate. Concrete
structures and all steel structures must meet the
requirements of DIN EN 14879-1.
Surface pretreatment
Steel surfaces shall be abrasive blasted to a
metallic white finish. A preparation degree of SA
2 as specified in DIN EN ISO12944-4 and a
"medium (G)" roughness degree as specified in DIN
EN ISO 8503-1 must be attained;

- - :

minimum roughness Rz = 70 m. After blast cleaning

the steel surface must be primed.
Concrete surfaces must be prepared by abrasive
blasting or other suitable mechanical methods to
remove cement slurries, cement skin, loose or brittle
particles, defects and parting compounds. The residual
moisture of the concrete surface shall be < 4%. The
concrete substrate should exhibit a compressive
strength of at least 25 MPa.
Application
CEILCOTE 505 Coroline consists of a two-component
Primer, a three-component Base Coat, a twocomponent Laminate Layer, which is reinforced with the
CEILCOTE Glasscloth 330, and a three-component Top
Coat.

Spread the Primer onto the substrate using a roller and

allow to harden. Then apply the Base Coat in a
thickness of approx. 1.5 mm and press down the
CEILCOTE Glasscloth 330, soak it with laminating
solution and allow to harden.
Apply the Top Coat in a thickness of approx. 1.5 mm
and smooth the surface with a flat brush that is wetted
with Ceilcote T-420 Solvent.

Higher temperatures will shorten the shelf life of this

products. The packaging drums are to be kept tightly
shut and are to be resealed each time material has
been removed. All liquid products must be stored frostfree.
Safety
Adequate ventilation is to be provided while work is in
progress. Ventilation is compulsory for all work carried
out in pits and closed rooms. All vapours that are
produced while work is in progress must be
continuously suctioned off at floor or bottom level.
Only the amount of material effectively required to
continue work is to be stored at the working place. The
instructions for the prevention of fire and explosion are
to be observed if required.
Please note and ensure that even the smallest
quantities of the individual components and/or prepared
mixtures are not allowed to reach the sewerage.
All regulations for the prevention of accidents stipulated
by the employers liability assurance association, the
regulations for the prevention of accidents prescribed at
the site of application and the TRGS 507 Surface
treatment in rooms and tanks, as well as the safety
precautions listed on the packing (label) required by the
provisions of the Hazardous Materials Ordinance shall
be adhered to. The operating instructions pursuant to
14 GefStoffV as well as the EC safety data sheets are
to be complied with.
