Executive Summary
TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) was founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley by a group of successful entrepreneurs,
corporate executives, and senior professionals with roots in the Indus region. There are currently more than
12,000 members and over 1,800 charter members in 55 chapters across 13 countries. TiE’s mission is to
foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, and education. Dedicated to the virtuous
cycle of wealth creation and giving back to the community, TiE’s focus is on generating and nurturing our
next generation of entrepreneurs.
Besides its flagship event, TiECon - the largest professional conference for entrepreneurs, TiE now has a
wide range of programs including Special Interest Groups (SIGs), TiE Institute, Deal Flow Meetings, TiE
Young Entrepreneurs, and, most recently, TiE Women’s Forum and CEO Forum.
TiE is a unique organization, its Charter Members are the engines of TiE. They are successful
entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals who have reached a stage in their professional
lives when they are ready, willing, and able to contribute to fellow members. It is a Charter Member's
individual initiative, drive, persistence and willingness to contribute that propel TiE's growth.
TiE global recently partnered with Microsoft for its global start-up program, Microsoft BizSpark. Microsoft
BizSpark is a new program designed to accelerate the success of entrepreneurs and early stage startups by
providing access to Microsoft's software and connecting them to a global network of entrepreneurial
organizations such as TiE. The BizSpark Program provides startups with software and technical support at a
time when they are least affordable—during their first three years, with no upfront costs and minimal
requirements.
TiE's Portland chapter was launched in October, 2007, with a launch event that featured C.K Prahalad, Paul
& Ruth McCracken Distinguished University Professor of Corporate Strategy at the University Of Michigan
Ross School Of Business, a globally recognized business consultant, as a Keynote speaker. C.K Prahalad, a
member of the Board of Trustees of TiE, spoke on Serving the 6 Billion - the underlying theme to TiE
Oregon. He gave a motivating speech about - "The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid". Over 150 people
attended the launch of the TiE chapter in Portland.
