ABSTRACT

Mochammad Ihsan Muttaqin, 2015. The effect of concentration of

Biopesticide Powder from plant material soursop (Annona muricata L.), basil
(Ocimum citriodorum) Vis., and cloves {(Syzygium aromaticum) (L.) Merrill
& Perry}} toward the mortality of Callosobruchus chinensis Linn. (Coleoptera:
Bruchidae) and damage intensity of soybean seeds {(Glycine max) (L.) Merr.}
in laboratory.. Under the guidance of Dr. Yenny Mulyani, Ir. MP., and Dra. Hj.
Muhardini Iswandiari.
Soybean (Glycine max) (L.) Merr., one of the important food crop in Indonesia,
contains 37.9% of protein and 18% of fat (Copeland and McDonald, 2001), and
even contains higher protein than the green beans, rice, and corn (Tanuwijaya et
al., 2000), The benefits of it has increased the public demand for soybeans
consumption. Unfortunately, it is not in balance with the national production of
this crop which is only 37%. The post-harvest pest called Callosobruchus
chinensis Lin., is one of pests which causes the production of the crop low.
Callosobruchus chinensis Lin. or beetles attacks soya bean powder from the field
to storage (Indriati, 2009) and causes the losses up to 96 percent (Kartasapoetra,
1991), and the yield losses 70%. Muliani experimental results (2015) show that
the intensity of the highest damage occurs in soybean varieties Argomulyo. The
use of synthetic pesticides that causes negative impacts on the environment
(Pimentel et al. 2009;. Tavares et al., 2010),has stimulated the use of nonsynthetic insecticides as an insecticide that is safe for the environment, that is the
use of toxic compounds or secondary metabolites of plant (botanical insecticides)
(Isman, 2006). This is in accordance to the integrated pest management (IPM)
concept mandated in Law No.12 / 1992 on Plant Cultivation System (Untung,
2001). Some researchers conducted a study of soursop, basil and clove as a
biopesticide. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of concentration and
plant materials as an insecticide plant in suppressing the beetle population toward
the soybean powder in storage. The study employed experimental method by
using randomized experimental design with 10 treatments, consisting of 9
treatments of bioinsecticide and 1 control (without bioinsecticide). The results
showed that the bioinsecticide ingredient material seed powder soursop plant with
a concentration 5gr / 1 kg of soybean seed varieties Agromulyo beetle populations
was capable of suppressing soybean seed powder in storage at the Laboratory of
Biology, University of Islam Nusantara.
