Tour Itinerary

Many people ponder what they should do for a vacation and I realized a lot of people
dont seem to share my views about traveling. I believe its very important to see the
world and different cultures. It lets us open our minds to new things and we get to
experience life in exiting different ways.
Traveling gives us the opportunity to disconnect from our regular life. You get to
forget your problems/issues for a few weeks, it can also help you figure things out that
you would not have understood without the distance traveling can give you.
Another great benefit is the relaxation you get to do. Its nice to live life to its fullest
and enjoy a stress free time with yourself. Going on vacation lets us recharge our
batteries by disconnecting us from our regular life. When we come back we feel
invigorated and we are happy to be back in our day to day routine. Its a very good
stress remover that has a lot more to give than most people are willing to accept.
Traveling increases our knowledge and widens our perspective. To view new
customs, different ways of living is fantastic for the mind. It gives us a new perspective
about life and especially our life, it can help us change some of our habits or even
create new ones. When I travel I usually make it a point to try new food, some cultures
dont have fries in their diet and they are all skinny, others use spices to give taste and
not oils or fats. Discovering different values and ways to get by in life is really
interesting. You also need to visit exotic new places and discover what this wonderful
world has to offer.

New experiences increase our resourcefulness by living situations you would never
encounter at home, this is great experience for you when you come back to your
routine. I have noticed that people who traveled a lot in life were ready to embrace
change and have a natural ability of overcoming problems that others would frown
upon.

When traveling with friends or family it creates memories for a lifetime. These
memories will create a bond that nothing can erase no matter what happens with the
friendship/relationship. It can also give a new perspective on the relationship and
cement the bond forever. It also gives nice stories to tell people afterwards, you can
create photo albums about your trips and when you feel nostalgic you can take an hour
of your life and experience the trips again by looking at your pictures. To make things
positive all the way we need a perfect plan for each step, this is called Itinerary.
An itinerary is travel plan where you will go, how will you go and how to
explore the beauties of nature at a glance.
Itinerary is a document in which the places you will be going to are listed. Actually it is a
plan that displays how you will get from point to point in your travels and when you will
be at each point. If you want to visit an unknown place, you must have to have a perfect
tour plan. Otherwise you may fall into some problems when you will be in that places
and kill your valuable times either.

An overview of the Place

Darjeeling is a town and a municipality in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located in
the Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalaya at an elevation of 6,700 ft. The name
Darjeeling comes from the Tibetan word dorje, meaning the thunderbolt scepter of the
Hindu deity Indra, and ling, a place or land. It is noted for its tea industry and the
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Darjeeling is the
headquarters of Darjeeling district which has a partially autonomous status within the
state of West Bengal. Apart from the major religious festivals such as Dashain, Tihar,
Christmas, Holi, Ram Navami, etc., the diverse ethnic populace of the town celebrates
several local festivals. Buddhist ethnic groups such as the Lepchas, Bhutias, Sherpas,
Yolmos, Gurungs, and Tamangs celebrate New Year called Losar in January/February,
Maghe Sankranti, Chotrul Duchen, Buddha Jayanti, and Tendong Lho Rumfaat. The
Kiranti Rai people (Khambus) celebrate their annual Sakela festivals of Ubhauli and

Udhauli. Deusi and Bhaileni are songs performed by men and women, respectively,
during the festival of Tihar. All these provide a "regional distinctness" of Darjeeling's
local culture from the rest of India.

Peace Pagoda

Peace

Pagoda,

Darjeeling or Darjeeling

Peace

Pagoda is

one

of

the Peace

Pagodas designed to provide a focus for people of all races and creeds to help unite
them in their search for world peace. It is located in the town of Darjeeling in
the Indian state of West Bengal. Like most of the other Peace Pagodas, it was built
under the guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii (18851985), a Buddhist monk from Japan and
founder of the Nipponzan-Myhji Buddhist Order.
The foundation stone of the pagoda was laid on 3 November 1972 by Nichidatsu Fujii,
and was inaugurated on 1 November 1992. The pagoda was designed by M. Ohka, and

it took 36 months for constructing it. The height of the pagoda is 28.5 metres (94 ft) and
diameter is 23 metres (75 ft).

Rock Garden

The Rock Garden (also known as Barbotey Rock Garden) at Chunnu Summer Falls
and Ganga Maya Park are recently added tourist attractions in the hilly town
of Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal, India. It is a showpiece meant to lure people
to Darjeeling after political agitations disrupted tourism in the 1980s. There is another
rock garden in Darjeeling known as Sir John Anderson Rock Garden, which is part
of Lloyd's Botanical Garden.

Bengal National History Museum

If you like to know about the fauna of Darjeeling district and that of the state, don't miss
out on the Bengal Natural History Museum. It's only a few minutes downhill walk from
the Chowrasta Mall. It started as a modest effort way back in 1903 when the then
Governor of Bengal initiated creation of a small museum in the Botanical Gardens of
Darjeeling. A small building in the Botanical Garden was constructed at a cost of
Rupees 14,000 to display only the butterflies and birds of the area. However it was too
small and not good enough for the students and researchers to study the whole bird and
animal life in the region. Therefore the present building was constructed in 1915 at a
cost of Rupees 55,000 to satisfy such requirement.
In 1923, Bengal Natural Museum Society was formed that took charge of the management of
the museum. It continued until 1976 after which the management was taken over by the Forest
Department of Government of West Bengal.

The Chowrasta Mall:

The Chowrasta or the Mall is the heart of Darjeeling town. Located on top of Nehru
Road, this is a nice flat land where tourists and locals come to lounge in the sun, take a
seat on one of the many benches along the periphery, and watch the wonderful views of
the mountain peaks and valleys all around. Mall is like the town center or the social
center of Darjeeling. This is where some of the old and heritage stores are lined up on
one side, and there is open view on the other with many pine trees all around. If you
want to feel the real vibe of Darjeeling, watch people and activities, this is the place to
come. Another thing that you won't miss here... there are lots of young local lads with
their ponies offering horse rides to children. Many elderly tourists indulge as well.

Shrubbery Nightingale Park:

The Shrubbery Nightingale Park in Darjeeling is a beautiful public park area. It's ideal for
relaxing and enjoying the superb views of the Kanchenjunga and the other snow peaks
of Eastern Himalayas. During the tourist season, Nepali cultural programs like local
dances are held here every day in the evening. During the British days in early 1900s,
this place was known as The Shrubbery. It used to be the private courtyard of Sir
Thomas Tartan's Bungalow. In 1934 it was completely destroyed by an earthquake.
Following its destruction, there have been several developments that took place on this
area. Initially it became a place where the British women resident in Darjeeling would
come here to have a cup of tea and chat with each other. So it was more like a women's
meeting place.
In 1950s and 60s, the park became a hot place for Bollywood films because of its scenic beauty.
In 1976 the then Governor of West Bengal Mr. A L Dias created a grand plan to redesign the
park to its present form. However in the 1980s the Shrubbery Nightingale Park was sadly
neglected due to the tension in the Darjeeling hills during that period.

Day 04: Early morning visit Tiger Hill including Batasia

loop & Monastery. Free for Shopping and enjoy the
beauties of Mountain Kanchanjungha from The Mall. In the
evening free. Dinner & night halt at Darjeeling.
Tiger Hill

While we always talk about the sweeping views of sunrise from Tiger Hill and the view
of the colossal Kanchenjunga with many other snow clad eastern Himalayan peaks from
here, but we hardly talk about the summit of Tiger Hill itself. True that the blaze of
rapidly changing colors of the snow peaks as the sun strikes is an awesome view, but
Tiger Hill is great even otherwise. It's a destination by itself offering not just great views
during sunrise, it's a place where you can soak yourself with Himalayan serenity
anytime during the day.
While I have been to Tiger Hill many times to experience the sunrise, I have also been
there several times during the day and enjoyed as much. Tiger Hill is located 11km (6.8
miles) from Darjeeling town and above Ghoom. It's the highest point in Darjeeling hills at

an altitude of 8482 feet (or 2590 meters). The best season to see the dazzling snow
covered peaks as the sun rises is between Mid October to December.

Batasia Loop:

If you are taking a toy train joy ride from Darjeeling, you will pass by this magnificent
loop. Otherwise, take a cab from Darjeeling town and visit the Batasia Loop. It's located
on Hill Cart Road (i.e. National Highway 55) that goes all the way to Siliguri and takes
20 minutes to reach by car. There is no better place to get a 360 degree view of
Darjeeling's landscape including the hill town and the snow covered peaks of the
Eastern Himalayas with the majestic Kanchenjunga on one side. And all this from the
middle of a lovely garden with flowers around which the toy train track is laid.
Batasia means airy space. the As you stand on one side of the garden and see the toy
train making a complete loop while hooting its whistle along the way and trying to
negotiate the spiral track with a double loop, it's a fabulous experience. There are
seating areas as well to enjoy the views. The entire area along with the gardens and an

approach bridge that leads to the garden is about 50,000 square feet. It has been
covered with grass and beautified with both seasonal and perennial flowers and shrubs.

Ghoom Monastery Darjeeling:

Yiga Choeling Monastery of Ghoom is one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist

monasteries in Darjeeling area built in the year 1850. This is the original or the
old Ghoom Monastery. There is another monastery called Samten Choling
Monastery in Ghoom which is also sometimes referred as Ghoom Monastery by
the local drivers. So if you are planning to visit the original Ghoom Monastery, be
specific and mention old Ghoom Monastery. Ghoom is about 7km from
Darjeeling town and located at an altitude of about 7,407ft. (Or 2,226 meters).
Located below Ghoom railway station, the external structure of the Yiga Choeling
Monastery or the Ghoom Monastery was built by the monk and a famous

astrologer Lama Sherab Gyatso in 1850. He was the first head of the monastery
and continued his tenure until 1905. He later went back to his birthplace Tibet.

Kanchenjunga
Kanchenjunga, also spelled Kangchenjunga or Kinchinjunga, Nepali Kumbhkaran
Lungur, worlds third highest mountain, with an elevation of 28,169 feet (8,586
metres). It is situated in the eastern Himalayas on the border between Sikkim
state, northeastern India, and eastern Nepal, 46 miles (74 km) north-northwest of
Darjiling, Sikkim. The mountain is part of the Great Himalaya Range. The
Kanchenjunga massif is in the form of a gigantic cross, the arms of which extend
north, south, east, and west. Kanchenjunga is composed of rocks of
Neoproterozoic (late Precambrian) to Ordovician age.

Day 05: After Breakfast Start drive for Siliguri via Mirrik.
Enjoy Boating in Mirrik Lake. We will Reach Siliguri at
12.00 noon.
Mirrik Lake:

Mirik is a picturesque tourist spot nestled in the serene hills of Darjeeling district
in West Bengal, India. The name Mirik comes from the Lepcha words Mir-Yok meaning
"place burnt by fire".Mirik has become a popular tourist destination for its climate,
natural beauty and easy accessibility. The centre of all attraction is the Sumendu Lake,
surrounded by a garden on one side and pine trees on the other and linked together by
an arching footbridge called Indreni Pull (Rainbow Bridge). A 3.5-km-long road encircles
the lake and is used for walks with the view of Kangchenjunga on the far horizon.
Boating on the quaint shikaras and pony riding are available.
