General wine information:

What are the varietal characteristics of the grape varieties we have tasted in class? See the handouts, PPTs and text
readings.
It is suggested that you go over the labels from your tasting sheets and be sure you are able to decode them, more than just
at face value. For each label you should be able to identify: who made the wine, what is the name of the wine, which
grape variety is used to make the wine, where were the grapes grown, what do certain terms on the label mean. Note: We
decode each label we present in class. All the classes are videotaped and on Blackboard. If you cant figure out a label go
to that lecture and fast forward to the label and review it. You can also visit Mrs. Stanley during her posted office hours.
While many additional producers are recommended in both the textbook and on our course handouts, these are offered for
your information when you are purchasing wines. We do not expect you to memorize the names or locations of all these
producers.
A word to the wise!
As you can see from this list there is a lot to know. Dont wait to the last minute to try to assimilate all this information as
it is just not possible. Spend the time each week to do the readings and learn the material for that week, then you will only
need to review it for the prelim. As stated in the syllabus, to earn an S in this class you need to achieve a combined score
of at least 210 out of 300 possible points for the two exams.
The University schedules our exams and students are required to take them as scheduled. If you have an exam conflict you
must contact Erica Anderson, the Administrative Assistant in advance of the exam (at least a week in advance). She is the
only person authorized to deal with exam conflicts.
You should keep your schedule free from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on the evening of the prelim.
You will be notified on Blackboard of the specific time when you will take the exam as the class size requires us to divide
the class up. You will sit in your assigned seat and must take the exam at your scheduled time.
If you are ill, you need to contact Erica at 255-3699 before the start of the exam.
