1. Give the compounds stated in the movie.

According to Dr. Crane, there are 49 compounds in the medicine…but not all of them
were named. These were some of them.

Glucose Na3PO4
C6H12O6
Sodium nitrate
Sodium chloride NaNO3
NaCl2
Ferric chloride
Silicon oxide FeCl3
SiO2
Hypochlorous acid
Sodium phosphate HClO

2. Where did Dr. Campbell found the source for the medicine?

Campbell has discovered a flower extract that cures cancer, but has been unable to
duplicate the formula. With the assistance of Dr. Crane, he explores every possible
chemical derivative, but continues to fail.

But at the end of the story, in desperation after their new samples fail to reveal the
missing compound, Crane runs the machine one more time and they accidentally
discovers that the source of the cure is not the flower but a species of rare, indigenous
ant.

3. If you were Dr Campbell, what prescription would you give to the natives?

If I were to be Dr. Campbell, I would give the natives some black raspberry extract or the
whole black raspberry itself as cure for esophageal cancer. Because there were certain
studies and experiments in America showing that the black raspberry extract are rich with
an anthocyanin compound.

Work on laboratory cancer models has shown that black raspberry anthocyanins prevents
cancer cells by reducing the growth of pre-malignant cells and accelerating the rate of
cell turnover, making the cancer cells die faster. It also reduces the inflammation that
initiate the tumors and prevents the growth of new blood vessels that nourishes tumors. It
can also minimize the cancer-induced DNA damage in the body.

The researchers also noted that the organic-insoluble fraction also showed some anti-
cancer activity, indicating that compounds other than anthocyanins may be beneficial.
They added that they are currently attempting to identify what these compounds may be.
4. Reflection/reaction

I liked the story line, loved the scenery, laughed at the funny parts, and caught most of
the subtle parts. I never heard of this one before, but I’m glad I did. A little on the
predictable side, but that’s ok too.

You can also learn something while watching this film, such as the utilization &
exhibition of proper scientific attitudes & methods as needed not only in the study of
Science but in all our daily dealings as well. With such great cast, and fantastic direction
& cinematography, this are the kinds of movies everyone will learn so much from. The
plot & the other details in the movie are very realistic (compared to the present trend in
movies where computer graphics cheat on the viewers!!!)

I also liked the concept of finding cure for cancer…because what if there really is a cure
for cancer and we just don’t know it? What if someone already found the cure and
unfortunately loses it in the process? I mean, wouldn’t it be great if that really happens?
The plot and the other details in the movie are very realistic that maybe, this thing could
really happen in real life. This film makes me feel good and hopeful about the future…
especially to those who have cancer.
