Debate

It is best for Malaysians to holiday local

Government
First Speaker

Good afternoon to the respected speaker, cautious time keeper,

honorable judges, members of the opposite team and members of the

floor.
Before I put forward my case today, I would like to define todays
motion This house believes that it is best for Malaysians to holiday
local. According to the Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary
published in 2008, best means being the most suitable. Holiday means
when someone does not go to work or school and free to do what they
want such as travel and relax. Local means existing in a country. In
short our motion today is defined as Malaysia is the most suitable

place for the citizens to travel and relax.

Today I ...........................as the first speaker of the government team
strongly believe with the motion This house believes that it is best

for Malaysians to holiday local.

Today, I will be the first speaker of the government team and will
present

one

argument,

and

my

second

speaker....................................will present two arguments and my third

speaker ............................ will rebut all the arguments presented by
the opposite team. Today we as the government team strongly believe
with the motion This house believes that it is best for

Malaysians to holiday local.

If you have to make a choice of a holiday destination, will it be in your
own country or will it be in another country? Of course, there are many
attractions to holidaying abroad, the experience of a different culture,
different landscape and lifestyle.

However, on a different angle, you too can have an enjoyable holiday

in your own country. Many of us forget or take for granted the
attractions in our own country. Sometimes, a foreign visitor knows

more about these attractions.

To experience of a different culture, different landscape and lifestyle,
Malaysia has it all. I strongly believe that Malaysia is rich with
culture and unique heritage. Located in East Asia region, Malaysia
is among the most unique country in the world. This uniqueness
greatly aided by diversity of cultures. First of all, you must know that
Malaysia consists of three major races which are Malay, the largest
population in Malaysia, India and Chinese. Other races are only
minority population but also contribute equally to the country. Each of
these races has their own cultures. Malaysians can experience this

uniqueness by travelling to any states in Malaysia. For example,

3 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur lay the Batu Caves, a series of
limestone caverns, many of which have been converted into Hindu
temples. The cave complex is now one of the most sacred Hindu sites
outside India, and attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists every

year.
Melaka, this cosmopolitan market town attracted people from all over
the South China Sea, and began what is now firmly established as

Malaysias multicultural identity.

One of Malaysias two Borneo based states, Sarawak is the largest and
most rugged state in the country and is also known as Bumi Kenyalang
(Land of the Hornbills). It is famous for its indigenous cultures, many of
which

maintain

their

distinctiveness

despite

encroaching

modernization.
A former hill station, Cameron Highlands still retains many influences
from its days as the retreat of the British colonial class and offers a
fascinating introduction to the colonial legacy in Malaysia and many
more interesting and unique places that can be visited by the

Malaysians to experience the diversity of cultures in Malaysia

themselves.
While people traveling in their own country they can get familiar with
touristic site of country. In addition, they meet another people of
country and know their way of living, working and their accent actually.
People commonly obtain some information about their own history
through books in school and sometimes they do not visit the historical
site. I content that it is better to know our history and roots then get
familiar with other nations. In order to acquire knowledge about our
ancestors, traveling in country is better way to only read books.
Nothing can replace with the joy of visiting our country and knowing

about culture and history.

According to an article entitled cultural tourism in Malaysia in the
perspective of Indian tourist, it is stated that Malaysia is a reasonably

good cultural destination.

Hence, A land of a lot of cultures and colors; Malaysia is the perfect

holiday target.
Once again before I rest my case, I would like to stress that it is the
best

for

Malaysians

to

holiday

local

and

discover

the

uniqueness of their own country.

Second speaker

A very good afternoon to the chairperson, time keeper, members of the

opposition team, judges, ladies and gentlemen. I'm the second speaker
for the government team and I will be continuing my team's case
today. Our team strongly agree with this statement which is this
house believes that it is best for Malaysians to holiday local.

I agree/disagree with the definition given by the opposition. (If disagree

redefine the motion).

Now, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to rebut the points laid out by
the opposition.

Okay, ladies and gentlemen please take a look at our motion today .
The motion of todays debate is THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT IT IS
BEST FOR MALAYSIANS TO HOLIDAY LOCAL.

What *opposition point* got to do with todays debate motion? I

disagree

with

that

point

because ...................................................................................................
.................................................................................................................

....
Now, the first speaker from our team stated that it is the best for
Malaysians to holiday local and discover the uniqueness of their own

country.
The second argument of my team is the economical traveling cost.
A holiday trip to Malaysia is generally not expensive. Hotel prices in
Malaysia have a great price/quality ratio. A luxurious stay at one of
many fantastic 5 stars hotels start at around RM300 per room per
night. A good 4 stars middle class hotel will on average cost RM200 to
RM300 per night. However, there are more than enough guesthouses

where you pay around RM70 per night.

There are multiple ways to travel in Malaysia such as by buses, trains,
cars and domestic flights. Domestic flights rarely take over an hour and
are an excellent way to see the whole country, without spending too
many valuable days on traveling. By far the cheapest airliner is AirAsia.
AirAsia flies to nearly every noteworthy city within Malaysia, and also
to numerous destinations outside Malaysia. The costs of ticket are
extremely low; for example you can fly for around RM80 from Kuala
Lumpur to Penang (one way).

In certain states you can easily explore the city by metro or bus. Apart
from that you can of course always take a taxi. Best way is to just get

in the taxi and tell the driver where you need to go.
Over larger distances you can take either the train or the bus. The train
is comfortable but this depends on the class in which you travel.

One of the main reasons a trip to Malaysia is relatively affordable has

to do with the costs of living contrary to other popular destinations
that over the years have only gotten more expensive regarding the
costs of living. Of course you can make it as expensive or cheap as
you wish. At least you have that choice in Malaysia. You decide
yourself whether you eat a RM10 meal in the evening, or have an
elaborate multiple course dinner. A backpacker can live in Malaysia
for very little money, while someone who likes luxury can spend his
holiday in a very comfortable but still affordable way in luxury.

The main advantage of Malaysians who travel locally is that, they do

not have to worry on money currency as they can just use the
Ringgit Malaysia without exchanging it according to the exchange
rates of the particular visited country.

In my point of view, people should spend their money in their

country rather than in foreign country. It is due to flourishing their
own tourist industry and brings a lot amount of money in the country
rather than spending it in another country.

Without wasting any time, I would like to present our third argument
that is the advantage in communication.

By travelling in Malaysia, Malaysians can simply use their mother

tongue, Bahasa Malaysia in any states that they went to. They can
easily bargain on things, ask for directions or information by

communicating with the same language. In fact, English can also be

used with most of the locals. This makes travel so much convenient
and easy.

So, ladies and gentlemen. Before I take my seat, allow me to make a

conclusion, reaffirm, and clearly right in saying that it is best for
Malaysians to holiday local to discover the uniqueness of the
country, the economical travelling cost and the convenience in
communication.

We, the government are strongly stand that it is best for Malaysians
to holiday local as to support our country campaign Cuti-cuti
Malaysia which is organize by the Malaysian Tourism. With that,
Thank You.

Third Speaker

A very good afternoon to the respected speaker, time keeper,

members of the opposition team, honorable judges, ladies and
gentlemen. I am the third speaker of government team is given a duty
to rebut the arguments given by the opposition .Before that, our team
strongly agree on a simple premis that it is best for Malaysians to
holiday local. I repeat it is best for Malaysians to holiday local!

Okay, ladies and gentlemen please take a look at our motion today.

Does traveling abroad offer a more valuable experience than

traveling domestically? Think about it. As clich as it may sound, I
believe that beauty is in fact in the eyes of the beholder. I think we
may not have what we consider valuable travel experiences in our
own country because we dont open ourselves up to it.

Malaysia can cater visitors of every kind who travel in Malaysia

because it has an excellent tourism infrastructure maintained by the
Malaysian Government. Malaysia has excellence transportation system,
hotels, shopping places, nightlife, variety of food and drinks, festival,

outdoor activity and many more.

Tourists who travel to Malaysia to explore the Malaysia holiday spot will
welcome with great hospitality by multi-racial friendly Malaysian

natives.
So why not, we as Malaysians experience the uniqueness of our own

country by travelling locally.

A recent survey conducted by MasterCard in 2013 revealed that nearly
half of those surveyed expressed great interest to travel more, with
50% wish to do so within domestic destinations. That shows that
Malaysians nowadays are more open to travel local and it is best for

them to explore their own country.

Ladies and gentlemen, next, regarding

the

cost

of

travelling

domestically, Malaysians can save their money by travelling without

spending too much money and stay within their budget.

Based on the fact that the tourism industry is still largely supported by
domestic travelers, Malaysia Tourism has accelerate its promotions and
actions to encourage domestic tourism, where people are encouraged
to take local holidays through campaigns such as Cuti-cuti Malaysia
and the issuing of good value packages.

Last but not least, convenience in communicating. The national and

official language of Malaysia is Bahasa Melayu. Since Malaysia is so
diverse, there are also many other languages and dialects spoken,
with English being used fairly prevalently. Getting around the city
and area is very easy for tourists as bus and train timetables, as well
as street signs are all in English. Therefore, it will not be a problem
for Malaysians to travel within the country. The possibility of not
being able to see your way clear in the foreign country where you are

on holidays, mainly because you don't know how to make yourself

understood (INSUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE LANGUAGE), which
may result as frustrating after some days.

Beloved audience, Before I rest my case, As we know Its always nice

to think about going to a foreign country, however, traveling in our own

country allows us to learn more of our culture and our cities.

In fact, planning wont be a hassle, and you can focus on having a
relaxing time by travelling local.

The fact that you perhaps do not

share the same ideas, way of living, tastes, mentality, atmosphere and
cultural roots of the foreign country where you are on holidays may
cause you to feel painfully as a "misfit" and to feel deeply homesick

towards your own country of origin.

Thus, it is best for Malaysians to holiday local. With that, thank you.
