GENERAL INFORMATION

(Refer to enclosed Street Listing for designated collection day)

Residential trash, recycling, and yard waste/leaf material is to be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your
scheduled collection day. Trash and recycling may be placed out the night before after 6:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m.
during winter months). Remove empty containers no later than 12:00 midnight on the day of collection.
All bagged, boxed, bundled, etc. trash must be a manageable weight that one person can safely
lift. The contractor is not responsible for the collection of any item outlined in this brochure that
is not properly prepared.
Contact Waste Management at 1.800.866.4460 for large items or an excessive amount of trash as it may
be considered a special collection and an additional fee may apply.
The contractor is not responsible for the cleanup of trash, recycling, or yard waste/leaf material disturbed
or scattered by weather, animals or other causes.
Report legitimate trash misses to the Township at 412.831.9000 x 271. Make sure you have followed the
guidelines.
If there are questions regarding items not outlined in this brochure, contact the Township or Waste
Management for information.
It may be necessary to delay or cancel trash/recycling collection during inclement weather. Refer to
Cable 7 or the Township website (www.twpusc.org) for details.

RESIDENTIAL TRASH COLLECTION

The contractor is required to provide weekly curbside collection of the following:

Residential household trash

Large household appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces,
refrigerators, freezers (appliances containing Freon must have the Freon removed and appliance
must be tagged prior to disposal)

Large items are limited to two (2) per collection

Compactible furniture less than 84" - sofas, chairs, tables, beds, mattresses, box springs

Carpeting and padding cut in 3-4 foot lengths, rolled and securely tied; one room per week

Dried or empty cans of paint, lids removed

Bagged grass clippings will be accepted curbside; however, composting mowers are
encouraged where practical.

The Township annually receives a performance grant from the Commonwealth of PA based upon the
amount of tonnage recycled during the previous year. The Township received $38,000 in performance
grant funds based upon the 2779.6 tons of recycling materials collected in 2014. Please do your part to
help maximize this program.
RETIRE OLD GLORY: Drop off your tattered, faded and torn American flags in the Retire Old Glory
bin located in the lobby of the Community & Recreation Center located at 1551 Mayview Road.
The Library accepts the following items for recycling: Cell Phones, Rechargeable Batteries,
Ink Cartridges, and Eye Glasses. This list is subject to change at any time.
Christmas Tree Recycling Project - December 26, 2015 - January 31, 2016
Bring your tree, without decorations, to the YMCA upper parking lot.
The trees will be ground for mulch for residents use.

YARD DEBRIS/LEAF WASTE CURBSIDE COLLECTIONS AND DROP OFF

Pennsylvanias Recycling Act 101 restricts the placement of yard waste/leaf material in landfills. Yard
waste curbside collection and drop off includes leaves, plants, garden residue, chipped shrubbery,
tree trimmings, and leaves/grass clipping mixture in compostable paper bags only along with
bundled limbs and branches not to exceed 3 inches in diameter and 48 inches long.
