TITLE
Provision of Non-metallic, self lubricated Brake rigging Bushes on WDG3A, WDM3D & WAG7
locomotive bogies.

2.

BACKGROUND
The present design of Brake rigging Bushes being used in WDG3A/WDM3D locomotives are made of
hardened Steel to IS:1875 class-I. These bushes are case hardened up to case depth of 1 mm approx.
To improve performance and reliability of bushes, Non-metallic, self lubricated brake rigging bushes
have been tried out on some locomotives with very encouraging results.

OBJECT
This Modification Sheet is intended to try out Non-metallic, self lubricated Brake rigging Bushes for
WDG3A, WDM3D & WAG7 locomotives.

INVESTIGATION
Field trials have been completed for periods varying from 18 months to 2 years and extensive
application is called for. It is, therefore, decided that up to 50 locomotives be provided with these
bushes in all Zones, DLW & DMW and the performance reviewed by end 2011 to consider complete
switchover. This review shall also be done with a view to determining the material (out of the
alternatives specified) which is best suited for this application.

APPLICATION TO CLASS OF LOCOMOTIVES


WDG3A, WDM3D & WAG7 locomotives.

MODIFICATION CONTENTS
Metallic brake rigging bushes fitted in WDG3A, WDM3D & WAG7 loco bogies should be replaced with
non-metallic bushes at highly loaded locations as shown in enclosed Sketch No. 2010-41.
