PERSECUTION OF BUDDHISTS BY HINDUS

Buddhism was established in the ancient Magadha by Gautama Buddha in the 6th century BCE.
Buddhism, over the next 1500 years became the region's dominant belief system, spreading across the Indian

sub-continent.
The Brahmin law-givers of that times were explicitly hostile to towns and there is evidence that the Buddha's

message appealed especially to town-dwellers and the new social classes.

Till the end of 8th century BCE, Buddhism was the most popular religion in Indian Sub-continent and central Asia

as it was against the caste system and believed in equality unlike Hinduism.
But soon after the death of Mauryan Empire, the persecution of Buddhists started. The successor Shungas

reinstated the Vedic sacrifices and persecuted Buddhism.

Buddhist religious scriptures such as the Asokavadana allege that Pusyamitra an orthodox Brahimin was hostile

towards Buddhists and persecuted the Buddhist faith.

Many historians believe that Pushyamitra destroyed monasteries and killed monks 84,000 Buddhist stupas which

had been built by Asoka were destroyed and 100 gold coins were offered for the head of each Buddhist monk.
Buddhist sources allege that a large number of Buddhist monasteries vihfaras were converted to Hindu temples,

in such places as Nalanda, Bodhgaya, Sarnath, or Mathura.

The Gupta empire period was a time of great development of Hindu culture and continuous killings and

conversions of Buddhists by Hindus.

Two Hindu Pallava rulers Simhavarma and Trilochana are known to have destroyed Buddhist stupas and have had

Hindu temples built over them and persecuted the Buddhists.

Social ostracism of Buddhists in this period was done due to their lack of support for the caste system which

resulted in their extermination.

In the north and west the collapse of Harshavandan's kingdom gave rise to many smaller kingdoms. This led to
the rise of the martial Rajputs clans across the gangetic plains. During this period, the Buddhists were persecuted

by Hindu Rajputs.
Buddhist women were assigned as Devadasi slave of gods and these women were sexually abused by the Hindu

Brahmins.
Many Buddhist women and children were abused and tortured and then were brutally killed when they resisted

from converting to Hinduism.

Buddhism which was once the most followed religion in India soon became extinct as a result of continuous

killings of innocent Buddhists by Brutal and savage Hindus.

These Hindus always try to cover up the misdeeds of their ancestors as they want to protect themselves as
peaceful which is far from truth. One such example is that we do not find a single mention of the Hindu atrocities

in the books of history in India.

The right wing media of India is busy demonizing other religions but forget to mention their own evils- The evils of
extermination humanity.
