NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2010

Dear Parents/Carers,

We seem to finally have emerged from weeks of snow and ice. Luckily we were able
to open throughout this difficult time and keep the school and pupils safe.

NEW RESOURCES
From our School Fund we have purchased £350 worth of new Novels for P3 – P7 to
use to develop their Reading skills. We also purchased plastic covers to keep them
clean. We have bought new sets of reading books for pupils with Dyslexia and other
reading difficulties.
The Parent Council have purchased 6 new digital cameras for use by pupils. We are
very grateful for this.

RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOLS

We are continuing our work with this area by holding assemblies to discuss the
UNICEF Convention on the Rights of the Child. Pupils are becoming much more
aware of their rights and the responsibilities that go with holding these rights.
Our theme for this next few weeks is RESPECT for all peers and adults.

NURSERY
We will hold a Curriculum Evening for all Nursery parents and carers on Tuesday 9th
February at 6.30pm. We are also seeking the views of Nursery parents about our
provision by asking them to fill in a questionaire.
On Monday 19th January the Library will visit to give out Treasure Chest books to
Nursery Pupils.
All Nursery pupils starting school in August of this year should be registered by 23rd
January. Registration forms etc can be collected from the school. Proof of age and
address must be shown.

ROBERT BURNS DAY

As usual we will celebrate the birth of Robert Burns on Monday 25th January. The
children are all learning a scottish poem and song to recite on that day. Certificates
will be given out for the best three recitations. Please encourage all your children to
memorise their poem as part of their language homework. On that Monday pupils
may wear tartan skirts or kilts to school as part of their uniform (it is not a dress as
you please day).
ROAD SAFETY
P1 – P3 will be attending a Road Safety Magic Show to help them keep safe on the
roads. Our Road Safety Officers in P6 have put up a very good winter display with
tips on how to keep safe while it is still dark in the morning and late afternoon.

HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND INSET

School will be closed to pupils on 12th and 15th of February for the mid term holiday
and on the 16th for INSET. Teachers will be attending training for Curriculum for
Excellence Reading Skills and Early Years advice.

PE KIT
Most of our PE has had to be inside because of the bad weather recently. Please
remember that pupils must wear shorts, t-shirts and gym shoes inside.
Once the snow and ice has gone they will be outside where they may wear jogging
bottoms and trainers.
Please send in tape for girls with earings that cannot be removed. No other jewellry
should be worn in school at any time.
