Important Health Warning About Playing Video Games

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered

vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation,
confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of
consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking
nearby objects.
Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these
symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms
children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures.
The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following
precautions: Sit farther from the screen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room;
do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued.
If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor
before playing.

INSIDE FRONT COVER (IFC) - SAFETY

WARNING

Inside front cover (IFC): The IFC of the game

manual must contain the safety information text
(to the left).
Font size must be 7 pt Arial and very legible over
art elements. This is now a standard requirement
and publishers do not have the ability to change
it based on the style of the rest of the text so it is
not disguised in any way. Use a 80% white fill if
required (i.e. depending on the art background) for
the Warning boxes to ensure legibility.
Include a warning icon like the triangle with the
exclamation point.
All other safety related messages should be
located on the first page with the PSE notice.

Warranty
Must go in the manual and be 90 day+. Warranty
text must be localized for each of the languages
that the manual will be distributed into.
Product Support
Publishers are required to supply adequate levels
of customer support for end users.
The following levels of support must be included
in all game manuals:
Preferred: Web/email address + phone number
(local rate only, not premium or international call
charges) + Postal Address.
Minimum: Web/email address + phone number
(local rate only, not premium or international call
charges).
This text must be localized for each of the
languages that the manual will be distributed into.
You may determine placement of the Warranty
and Product Support information within the
manual, ideally they should be close to each
other.
Table of Contents
TOC preferred on page 1 (if one exists) but may
appear elsewhere for continuity with manual
and game.
If you choose to display a TOC, then it should
contain the following topics & their relevant page
number:
Connect to Xbox Live;
Customer or Product Support;
Warranty or Limited Warranty.
Multi-lingual Manual TOC Guidelines
If you are creating a multi-lingual manual and
choose to display a TOC, please follow either of
these guidelines:
1. If you are producing only one TOC, ensure that
you create a multi lingual TOC. e.g. there would
be English references in the TOC in English
language and Spanish references in the TOC in
Spanish language.
2. If you are producing individual TOC pages for
each of your languages, place a reference
to the starting page for each of the localized
languages (in the specific language) in the first
TOC. Then also localize the individual language
TOC pages in that particular language.

Photosensitive seizures
A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain
visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games.
Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed
condition that can cause these photosensitive epileptic seizures while watching video
games.
