After I spoke at a session in the Bible School of

Wales, Mrs. Rees Howells called me for a private

talk. We stood on the veranda of her home
overlooking beautiful Swansea Bay I can see her
finger upheld as she said, Many talk of my
husbands buying this place with a shilling
(fourteen cents) in his pocket. What they forget
is that he prayed twelve hours a day for eleven
months to know the mind of God. Brethren,
thats discipline! (Ravenhill)
The Holy Spirit Came!

'You can never

describe those
meetings when
the Holy Spirit
comes down!'

The following Thursday, while on their

knees in prayer, the Lord spoke to Rees
Howells, telling him that their prayer was
heard and that revival was coming. They
waited, as in the days before Pentecost, and
then - He came. In the meeting the whole
congregation were on their faces crying out
to God; like lightning and thunder the
power came. 'You can never describe those
meetings when the Holy Spirit comes
down' wrote Rees Howells.

Whilst seeking the Lord for Revival blessing in other areas the
Lord brought revelation to Rees, 'I was pleading His word, Malachi
3:10, "And try me now in this," says the Lord of Hosts, "If I will not
open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you such

blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it." Then I
saw the Holy Ghost descending on all the mission stations,' he
wrote. The vision came to pass and thousands received Christ.
"The world became our parish and we were led to be responsible to intercede for
countries and nations." Rees Howells
"The Holy Spirit does not know doubt, misery or worry, these are of self. ... Unless we
believe in a test we have never believed. If I only take a thought that the devil is
stronger than the Holy Spirit, I can clos"Now is the best time to test the Bible in wars,
because we are in one ourselves." Rees Howellse this book (the Bible) once and for
allby Rees Howells (1879 1950)

The first big test on giving came with a man in very poor circumstances, the
lowest of the low before he was converted. One morning the Lord laid a
burden on me for him and told me to pray for him because he was in
difficulties. The devil was attacking him and I saw that a contest was going on
for his soul. It was a very keen spiritual fight. I told the Lord, I will give all I
have to save him. That evening the man came to see me, and when I asked
if he was in trouble he said that he was two years behind with his rent. Oh, I
said, I will help you with half of what you need and I am sure my friend will
give you the other half. On my way upstairs to fetch the money the Lord
spoke to me, What did you say to him? I thought you said this morning that
you would give all you had. I turned back and told the man I would give him
all he needed. Then I walked back with him to his home. When I left him it
seemed that all the joy of heaven came down on me. It came over in waves,
and I could not contain it. That night I changed in the root of my nature. I
changed towards the world, towards lost souls and towards giving. From that
time I could not help but give to everyone in need. I lived to give.

Two Prayer Tips from

George Mueller

by George Mueller
1. Open Bible Before Him, and His Finger Upon That Promise, He would
Plead That Promise, and So He Received What He Asked
One of the mightiest men of prayer of the last generation was George Mueller
of Bristol, England, who in the last sixty years of his life (he lived to be ninetytwo or ninety-three) obtained the English equivalent of $7,200,000.00
(Remember, this was written in 1924) by prayer. But George Mueller never
prayed for a thing just because he wanted it, or even just because he felt it
was greatly needed for Gods work. When it was laid upon George Muellers
heart to pray for anything, he would search the Scriptures to find if there was
some promise that covered the case. Sometimes he would search the
scriptures for days before he presented his petition to God. And then when he
found the promise, with his open Bible before him, and his finger upon that
promise, he would plead that promise, and so he received what he asked. He
always prayed with an open Bible before him. R. A. Torrey on George
Mueller; The Power of Prayer, 1924 (P. 81)
2. Muellers Discovery Was That After Meditating On Scripture He Was More
Able to Experience a Meaningful Prayer time
Reading without meditation is unfruitful; meditation without reading is hurtful;
to meditate and to read without prayer upon both is without blessing.
William Bridge, Puritan Writer
Christian meditation (thinking deeply on Scripture) is the missing link between
Bible intake and prayer. If there was a secret to George Muellers prayer
life, it was his discovery of the connection between meditation and prayer.
Muellers discovery was that after meditating on Scripture he was more able to

experience a meaningful prayer time. Donald S. Whitney, Spiritual

Disciplines for the Christian Life (partial quote and partial paraphrase).

How To Ascertain the

Will of God George
Mueller
From Answers to Prayer by George Mueller (George Mller) 1805-1898
I seek at the beginning to get my heart into such a state that it has no will of its
own in regard to a given matter. Nine-tenths of the trouble with people
generally is just here. Nine-tenths of the difficulties are overcome when our
hearts are ready to do the Lords will, whatever it may be. When one is truly in
this state, it is usually but a little way to the knowledge of what His will is.
Having done this, I do not leave the result to feeling or simple impression. If
so, I make myself liable to great delusions.
I seek the Will of the Spirit of God through, or in connection with, the Word of
God. The Spirit and the Word must be combined. If I look to the Spirit alone
without the Word, I lay myself open to great delusions also. If the Holy Ghost
guides us at all, He will do it according to the Scriptures and never contrary to
them.
Next I take into account providential circumstances. These often plainly
indicate Gods Will in connection with His Word and Spirit.
I ask God in prayer to reveal His Will to me aright.
Thus, through prayer to God, the study of the Word, and reflection, I come to a
deliberate judgment according to the best of my ability and knowledge, and if

my mind is thus at peace, and continues so after two or three more petitions, I
proceed accordingly. In trivial matters, and in transactions involving most
important issues, I have found this method always effective.
George Mueller believed in what would be today millions of dollars to run the
orphanages that he founded and to which he was responsible. To read further
