Management Methods

Generator must :
Conclude a treatment contract with the H.W. disposal facility operator.
Deal with an authorized H.W. carrier .
Make a Waste Slip Tracking (W.S.T.) to ensure H.W. traceability.

Holders must :
Maintain a register chronologically tracing H.W. elimination operations.
Complete the W.S.T. thoroughly and store the appropriate copy as proof
of their disposal in accordance with the rules.

For What ? o Ensure the H.W. traceability.


o Constitutes a proper disposal proof for the authorities

Upon every operation.

What ?

o Provenance, description, code and tonnage of waste.

For What ? o To retracing, chronologically, operations relating to the


management of their waste.
o To be available to the Inspection Service.
The register may be kept on paper or computer. The register is kept for at least 10 years.

Who ?

The H.W. Holders.

After every year.

What ?

o The H.W. prisoners,

o Statistics and Optimization Purpose.

Storage

Store products and liquid hazardous waste in holding tanks.


Do not throw nor burn the H.W.

Sorting

Sort H.W. by families and classes.


Do not mix H.W. with other wastes.

Labeling

Correctly, label any container containing harmful substances or


hazardous waste.

Declaration

Issue a WTS when removing H.W. waste and keep it for 5 years.
Must update the register and prepare the annual report to the
relevant authorities.

Run a training program for truckers.


Realize all mobile equipment technical inspections provided.
Know the regulation of hazardous materials sufficient to satisfy.

Avoid mixtures unfit in collection.

Carriage authorization must cover all waste.


Show the danger labels and the hallmarks on the truck.
Insurance must cover the risk of damage by accident.
Issue a WTS at the time of collection finalized.
Keep the register updated and prepare the annual report.

law has a set of specific regulations that meet the general

requirements of sustainable environmental management, prompted by the

Basel Convention of March, 22nd, 1989 on the Control of Transboundary


Movements of Hazardous Waste and their Disposal, ratified by Tunisia.
Article 4 of the Basel Convention of March 22nd, 1989 and Article 31 (BIS) (new) of the 96-41 law of June 10th,
1996 on waste management in Tunisia.

Treatment Centers

To eliminate the 150.000 tons/year Hazardous waste, in an environmental respect

way, Tunisia has set up a program that mainly consists of:

The construction of three regional facilities for the receipt, storage and transfer
(IRST) H.W. to cover the main industrial regions of North, Central and South.
