Food in the United States of America


The variety of food in the USA is amazing! You want to eat junk food,
healthy food, fast food or take-away food? No problem. You want to eat
Italian, Vietnamese, Russian, French, Mexican, Japanese or Spanish? Also
no problem.
Here you have some of the most well known dishes.
1 Clam Chowder
This creamy soup comes from New England and five of its main
ingredients are clams, salt-pork, potatoes, onions and milk.
2 Tortillas
These are pancakes made of corn and they form the basis of
several Mexican dishes when they are filled with meat,
cheese and other things.
3 Popcorn
This snack consists of corn which as been heated
until it pops. A little butter, sugar or salt are often
added for extra flavour.
4 Waldorf Salad
Salads of every possible kind are popular in America. This
one was invented at the Waldorf Hotel in New York and its
ingredients include celery, apples, walnuts and mayonnaise.
5 Hamburgers
The all-time classic American dish is both easy to make and
delicious. Basically, you just 1) grill a circle of minced beef; 2)
place it between to halves of a warm sesame bread; 3) add the
extra fillings of your choice (tomato, ketchup, onion rings,
cheese, pickles, mustard, etc.).
6 Brownies
The unusual thing about this rich chocolate cake is
that it doesnt look like a cake. Thats because its
usually cut up and served in small squares.

Traditionally, British people have three meals a day:
breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Britains most popular breakfast consists of cereal, eggs and bacon, toast
and marmalade, fruit juice and yoghurt with a cup pf coffee or tea.
Lunch is a light meal. Most people have no time to have lunch at home so
children eat at school; adults eat in pubs or fast food restaurants. They
usually have a sandwich and a glass of fruit juice.
The famous British afternoon tea is served at 5 oclock with cakes and
small sandwiches.
The British main meal is dinner, which is usually eaten between 6 and 7
oclock. A typical evening meal is meat dish with vegetables and a dessert.
Fruit juice or water is drunk and coffee or tea is served at the end of the
meal.
