1. How can Mr.

Novac educate and motivate the third-grade teachers to integrate

sound curriculum theory into their day-to-day work with students?
In my view, as a principal and leader, firstly, Mr. Novac can offer an intentional learning
between the teachers and the students to target a specific content area. Via this, the teachers
are able to have a deep understanding of their content standards and share their knowledge
and skills with their students. Students are able to have opportunities for discovery through
this way. Teachers can always improve their pedagogical practices and the guidance materials
to support effective teaching that would increase their classroom effectiveness and student
achievements.
Besides that, Mr. Novac also can motivate his staffs through positive reinforcement to
boost their team spirit. They also should be given the opportunity of taking decisions
regarding the curriculum practiced in school. This will encourage them to hold back on
changing based on new curriculum. They will be perpetually ready to take on the changes
and carefully formulate the demand for variety and better themselves. This will eventually
encourage them to work confidently and professionally to improve their third grade students'
performance.
2. What are some classifying curriculum theories that Principal Novac might use to
increase student achievement scores? Identify the strategies and explain why you
think they might be effective.
In my opinion, I would like to recommend two curriculum theories, namely content-oriented
theories and process-oriented theories to overcome this problem. My reasons are that, first,
content-oriented theories are mainly concerned with determining the content of the
curriculum. Here, the teachers should select and organize the curriculum by considering

some important aspects such as child-centered, knowledge centered and society-centered.

The curriculum utilizes one teacher with one text-book in each class. The teacher can plan
and teaches lessons using instructional-level books. The example of teaching and learning
process would be lecture or small group discussion. The focus is on supporting and observing
students use of strategies. The role of teachers and students for content-oriented theories is
that there would be emphasis more on recall and morization on what have been learned from
the content. This approach will help students to remember what they have learned.
The second would be process-oriented theories where the concerned is with describing
how curriculum are developed or recommending how they should be developed. The
process-oriented theories employs coopertive teaching, integrated social studies and
materials. Besides that, variety of classroom experiences also can be provided. For example,
teachers can use strategies like problem based learning and challenge based learning which
encourage critical thinking on students via activities like role play and small group projects.
The process-oriented theories approach helps students gain knowledge and skills and apply
them to solve practical or real problems in their life. Via this, students enjoy themselves more
and afforded an opportunity to build their own understanding. The answer would be that, it
has also been a way to strengthen high level cognitive process skills among students and this
may help students to achieve higher.
In conclusion, I urge that these two curriculum theories would help principal, Mr. Novac
to find a better way to overcome and solve the issue regarding the low-achievement of the
third-grade students in his school. This aspects may lead to a better modify curriculum to
meet the development needs.
