The University of Chicago's GET CARE plan on Tuesday, May 10, and YOUR VOICE must
be heard. It is critical that they hear from our community about why we need equal
access to trauma, emergency and specialty care at UChicago Medicine. South Side
community members are traveling to the board meeting in Normal, IL, to make sure the
board hears from us. Trinitarian Candace Henley, founder of The Blue Hat Foundation,
will present on behalf of the University of Chicago, for the proposed cancer treatment
center.

Life is way too short.
Doug Banks and Prince are two very well-known African-American men who, just like that, are
no longer with us. They both recently died within one month of each other at the age of 57.
We are at a critical juncture - a fork in the road - when it comes to so-called health equity in our
communities.
In Dr. Terry Masons Restart 4 Life class on Thursdays at Trinity UCC, Dr. Mason profoundly
said that the third leading cause of death in this country is medical care. Think about that. Its
startling when you consider that African Americans suffer disproportionately more from heart
disease, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and, most recently, Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
(Violence is a disease as well.)
Late last year, the Endeleo Institute received funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) to market and promote nutrition education through the lens of Trinity UCCs Farmers
Market, which opens in just sixty days on July 9th. The thinking is that if we know better, we
will do better. Our goal to promote consumption of healthy food is part of a complete lifestyle
change, because the processed food we are eating is literally killing us!
In anticipation of the market opening, let's safely begin merging into the healthy eating and
exercise lane so that quality and life intersect.
