Superior Representatives have no authority to alter terms and conditions unless we are specifically notified and agree to
special terms and conditions.
CAUTION:
In order to insure the special function and security of an Interlock System, the equipment we supply will only be
accompanied by one set of keys. We caution the customer against any attempt to circumvent the Interlock Key System or
to use duplicate keys.
Occasionally, a customer will request that duplicate keys be supplied. In this event, for our mutual protection and
complete understanding of the security operation, the customer will be required to send us a disclaimer statement as part
of obtaining duplicate keys. In this statement, the customer assumes, full responsibility and agrees to hold Superior
Interlock Corp. harmless with reference to the direct or consequential damage to life and or property caused by the use of
duplicate keys or other attempts to circumvent the system.
After receiving an order from a customer, Superior Interlock Corp. will notify the customer of any shortcomings it finds in
design or equipment selected. Should the customer nevertheless insist upon equipment, which in the opinion of Superior
Interlock Corp. is unsafe or inadequate, it is clearly understood that the customer bears full responsibility for their decision
to proceed.
DAMAGE CLAIMS:
Sometimes, equipment is found damaged due to mishandling by carrier or other parties; consequently, claims for material,
damaged in shipment, must be made to Superior Interlock within a week after shipment is received.
All material, prior to shipment, is checked thoroughly, pertaining to operation, quantities and accessories ordered. The
interlocks are also checked sequentially, regarding key interchange and routing of key. After receiving material please
unpack carefully and check each item per, your order.
Each unit should be checked as per type, sub-type, catalog number, which is stenciled on the back of the unit name plate.
May it be two locks or two hundred locks, layout the locks per your schematic diagram.
Check all key numbers and interchange keys with identical interchange designation. Should there be any discrepancy
within the shipment, please contact Superior Interlock. The contents of the shipment should be complete unless it is a
partial shipment. It is essential to notify us immediately should there be a discrepancy.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Superior Interlocks are designed and built for safety. To get the maximum benefit from our safety devices, proper
installation of locks and thoughtful operation on your part is necessary.
We suggest. you carefully study the Installation and Operating Manual prior to installing locks.
Before installing interlocks the following should be considered:
Installing the locks should be done in steps following the sequence print schematic. This assures you the key routing and
functioning of the interlock system is safe and provides maximum protection for which the interlock system is intended.
The mounting hardware we supply with all locks is of the tamper-resistant type. All one-way screws, which Superior
supplies, must be used to mount the locks. This is, for mutual protection and will guarantee the safety and integrity of the
interlock system. Should you decide to use standard mounting hardware, which is easily dismantled, Superior Interlock
Corp. will not be responsible.
We suggest that prior to permanent installation, all locks should be test-mounted with standard hardware. After making
proper adjustments, the standard hardware should be replaced with the one-way screws. This will give you maximum
assurance that no one can dismantle the locks. After installing the locks, you should test the complete system
sequentially, assuring yourself of proper sequential function of the interlocks. Any shortcomings within the system should
be corrected prior to energizing the system.
Not considering the above guidelines, you may jeopardize the safety of the operator or destroy expensive equipment.
It is essential to have the proper locking disk, which will prevent the locking bolt being extended in any other than, the
proper sequential position. Key release should be prevented by a fabricated member or interference finger, which will
hold the key back, in the equipment, in an energized position. It may be necessary, at times, to manufacture shims or
special parts in order to align the lock so it engages totally free in the locking disk.
Should the lock be used as a pushing device, where the locking bolt projects against a spring loaded member, locks with
over-travel feature (OTF) should be used. The locking bolt on the OTF unit travels beyond the centerline and has the
ability of releasing the pressure on pins and tumblers within the lock cylinder. This allows free insertion and removal of
the key in the lock (when locking bolt is in extended position) .
Door locks used on fuse compartments or enclosures must have perfect alignment between the lock housing and bolt
eye, (keeper). Misalignment between the two parts will result in excessive wear on the bottom release pins. When there
is misalignment between door and frame, use a different type of lock, which is suitable for door locking without crucial
alignment; B-857, or B-1496, etc.
Type B-5003 should be used on doors with reasonable alignment between door and frame. Door locks are equipped with
a key-retaining feature holding the key in the door-open position. This is accomplished internally with spring loaded
tumblers and should allow the key release when the two members, lock and bolt eye, are joined in the process of positive
door closure. Destroying this feature on the door locks will jeopardize the integrity of the system. Trying to retrieve a key
from the locks will result in breaking the keys. Only when you join the two members can the key be safely removed.
RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE:
Although all interlocks are constructed of nonferrous material, there will be some surface oxidation on parts, which are
exposed to the elements. This is normal. Please note that all units used in outdoor and harsh locations must have a dust
cap to protect the lock cylinder.
The lock cylinders when used often should be lubricated with dry powdered or flaked graphite at approximately threemonth intervals. The lock cylinders when used seldom should be lubricated with dry powdered or flaked graphite each
time the system is used. The outside barrel of the lock housing should be sandpapered to insure proper fit of push-on
dust, caps. The interior of the push-on dust cap should be periodically polished with 320-grit emery cloth. This will insure
proper fit of dust caps on housing. When dirt and contamination are a problem the locks need to be cleaned. A syringe
should be used, filled with mineral spirits, or other degreasing fluid, inserting the liquid into the plug of the lock and
washing out foreign material from the lock cylinder itself. This will clean the internal parts, like tumbler pins, drivers and
springs. This procedure should be repeated at least twice during this maintenance cycle. The liquid should be left for a
few minutes to loosen the dirt. Blow-dry with compressed air until thoroughly dry. After lock is thoroughly dry, lubricate
cylinder with flaked or powdered graphite.
Never use oil or grease or any other petroleum based product to lubricate cylinder.
It will only result in sluggish operation of lock and will hang up pins and tumbler.
Should you experience excessive friction by turning key it may be necessary to dismantle the lock and polish locking bolt
and clean bearing on lock housing.
Since all interlocks are property sealed and cannot be easily dismantled, it is advisable to return locks to us for repair. We
recondition all locks at minimum cost.
Should damage to the, lock cylinder occur, all components within our interlock system can be duplicated and replaced by
ordering spare cylinders. We give you the necessary instructions to replace defective cylinders. Any part within your
interlock system is repairable and all components, including keys and cylinders, can be obtained from Superior Interlock
Corp..
In order to keep your interlock system functioning properly, you must initiate a maintenance program, as described in this
"Recommended Maintenance" procedure.
Should you experience key breakage, we will, on a no charge basis, replace keys provided you return the broken
keys. During emergency conditions, Superior Interlock reserves the right to supply the customer with spare keys in order
to keep the system functioning properly. Catalog is available on request.
Should you decide to paint the lock housings, please be careful not to apply paint to moving parts of lock cylinder,
especially the plug section of the lock. This is the part where the key is inserted. The paint may seep into the interior of
the lock making the lock inoperative.
In locks with key retaining features do NOT paint tumblers (area where bolt-eye / keeper engages). The movement of the
spring-loaded tumbler must be totally free to function properly. Under no circumstances apply any foreign material or
paint on the locking bolt.
The spring-loaded hinges on the covers of the Interlocks should NOT be painted. Should the springs accidentally get
painted, please remove paint immediately.
