National Day of Prayer – May 6, 2010

From God’s Matchless Word…

7
For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with streams and pools
of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills; 8 a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig
trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; 9 a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack
nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.
10
When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he
has given you. 11 Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his
commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12 Otherwise, when you eat and
are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13 and when your herds and flocks grow
large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14 then your heart will
become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the
land of slavery.
18
But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce
wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
Deuteronomy 8:7-14, 18

89Your word, O LORD, is eternal;

it stands firm in the heavens. Psalm 119:89 NIV
The Bible has survived every scratch of human pen. It has survived the assault of skeptics, agnostics, and
atheists. It has never been proved wrong by a single archaeological discovery. It remains supreme in its
revelation of redemption. God still speaks to us today through that same Word, which stands forever.

viciously attacked by a man with a knife. At least 5 are in critical condition. Pray for the fears of the
children and their parents to be given to the Lord. Two other attacks happened earlier this month.
Pray for positive results from our small group meetings and, as we go before the Lord corporately for
guidance and blessing.

themselves before the Lord. II Chronicles 7:14

Issues…Problems… We all have issues and problems that we face. For some, it is their attitude. For
others, it’s a habit that they can’t seem to break. For many, it is something they have faced their whole life. The goal of this
series is to take on each of those issues and problems and learn how to “Deal With It!” Not just our own way, but the BIBLE
WAY! We need to find out what God has to say about how we should “Deal With It!”

May 9th: Caveman Blues (Depression)

We don’t have to live in depression. God’s joy can be our strength.

Children will enjoy videos, music, puppet skits, illustrated messages, power verse, and games! Children will be escorted to
the gym after the children’s message in the Sanctuary. Parents, please pick them up in the gym after the service.

Greetings from the
National Day of Prayer Task Force!
Once again, our team is gearing up for our annual National Day
of Prayer event in Washington, D.C., where we’ll join with
government leaders and people from around the country to lift our
needs and concerns for America before the Lord. Also, our dedicated
volunteer coordinators are preparing for thousands of local
gatherings that will take place on Thursday, May 6, 2010.

Now, more than ever before, I believe it is imperative that we as God’s

people remain on our knees for our nation and fellow citizens. The
critical challenges facing the United States and the culture at large
call for faithful, persevering intercession – not only on the National
Day of Prayer, but throughout the year.

Scripture provides abundant evidence that the Lord is attentive to our

cries and that He moves powerfully in response to the fervent and
contrite prayers of His children. As Martin Luther once said, “Prayer
is not overcoming God’s reluctance, but laying hold of His
willingness.” What comfort and encouragement we can have in the
assurance that our sovereign God is listening to our pleas, that He
waits to intervene on our behalf, and that He is “mighty to save”
(Zephaniah 3:17). With those wonderful truths in mind, I urge you to
join with us on May 6th as, in keeping with our theme, “For Such a
Time As This,” millions assemble in venues across this land to raise
their petitions heavenward. For information about the locations of
various observances being planned, please visit
www.NationalDayofPrayer.org.

May we continue to seek the Lord’s guidance and protection during

these crucial days that will impact the direction of our country for
generations to come. God bless you – and God bless America!

Sincerely,

Mrs. James C. Dobson (Shirley)

Chairman, National Day of Prayer Task Force

School News - By Principal, Elaine Popp
Mission Statement:
First Lutheran School exists to proclaim the Gospel as we teach academic skills and Christian values,
establishing a strong foundation for a child to live a successful, positive, and Christ-centered life.

On Monday, our 8th graders enjoyed a special field trip. They went to Clearwater High School to see
the production of the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. What made this performance special was
that Haden Leass, an FLS graduate and the son of Mrs. McDougall, our 8th grade teacher, is a member of
the cast. Also in the cast were Emma and Nathan Barrow who are also former FLS students and the
children of Micki Barrow, our art teacher. The 8th graders all had a great time and said the play was
awesome.
We are having special chapel services in the next two weeks and you are all invited. On Thursday,
th
May 6 , the National Day of Prayer, we will begin at the flag pole at 8:05 a.m. for pledges and then,
immediately go to chapel for a special prayer service led by Pastor Piering. Then, on Thursday, May
13th, at 8:05, we will have a special Ascension Day service. Following the chapel service, the students
will be releasing helium balloons with a special card attached. The card will have our address and
contact information. It will be interesting to see how far our balloons travel. I hope many of you will be
able to attend these special chapel services.
On Thursday evening, we had our last Parents’ Meeting of the school year. It is so important to get
input from our parents to help us continually evaluate our programs and strive for excellence.

The Annual Fine Arts Festival is next Thursday, May 6, Students will be performing and …well, come and see!!!!
The Festival will be held in the Christian Life Center’s Gym and begins at 6:30 p.m.

`Éà{xÜËá Wtç is next Sunday, May 9th.

A special fund-raiser to support the youth of the church is coming next
weekend! We will sponsor a Mother’s Day Breakfast in the Fellowship Hall
between services. All monies received will go toward funding the youth
who are attending Youth Gathering in July. Thank you for your support!
Christian Care Giving – a Way of Life
A new opportunity for Christian care giving will begin very soon at Faith Lutheran in

21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matthew 6:21
Only those who are poor in spirit and rich toward God shall be accounted worthy to enter heaven, because
they come not in their own merit, but in the righteousness of the Redeemer. Where is your treasure?
In the bank? In the driveway? In the mirror? Or are you storing up your treasure in heaven?
