offers Free Health Clinic: Villagers from


over six villages avail free checkup and
medicines

Jowai: The free medical camp organized by


the Sengkynthei Unitarian Union North
East India which is also the Meghalaya
chapter of the Consortium of Global Sisters
Unitarian Universalist, the Unitarian church
Padu, in collaboration with the Mission
Director, NHRM, Meghalaya, Shillong and
the Office of the District Medical and Health officer, Jowai was held last Saturday at the
Unitarian LP School Padu in which 861 people avail the opportunity.

In her introductory speech Dr. Creamlimon Nongbri Seretary of the Seng Kynthei
Unitarian Union North East India informed that the camp was an effort by the Meghalaya
chapter to address the four important issues prioritized during the last Convocation of the
consortium which was held last summer at Houston and the issues are Education, Health,
Domestic violence against women and poverty. Dr Nongbri also informed that this is the
fifth medical camp organized by the Women wing of the Unitarian Church in Meghalaya,
earlier the women ‘s association has organized a health camp at Dienglieng village in EK
hills district, another camp was held at Kyrdem Mawblang village of Ribhoi District, an
eye checkup camp was also organized at Nongkrem village in EKH district in
collaboration with the Bawri Nethralaya, Shillong and a special medical checkup was
also organized by the women’s group at the Annie Margaret Barr Children’s village,
Kharang for the 42 orphans who live in this Unitarian orphanage.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the camp, local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary
incharge border area Lahkmen Rymbui said that the need of such camp is to raise the
level of awareness on the importance of healthy living among the villagers and also to
provide the much needed health related information about the various schemes and
projects of the state and central government for the villagers. He added that the
government has recently started a mobile cancer unit and health insurance for the welfare
of the poor section of the society. The chief guest also urged upon the villagers to have a
planned family where parents can provide proper health and good education for their
kids. Others who spoke at the inaugural unction of the camp were LB Sumer Chairman
JHADC, Ohiwot Mukhim, Phillip Mukhim and the meeting was chaired by Charles
Pohshna Chairman of the Unitarian churh Padu.

Medical officers and paramedics who worked the whole day to serve the villagers who
attended the camp were Dr. H.B.Buam M&HO Pdenghakap, Dr. J Gashnga Sr M& HO
Padu, Dr. Rica Lamar incharge Unitarian Charitable clinic, Dr. M. Talang SDM&HO
Nongtalang PHC, Dr. I Ryntathiang M&HO Nongtalang PHC, Dr. B. Shullai Sr. M&HO
Jowai, Dr. R.M. Lamare Sr. M&HO o/o DM&HO, three pharmacist S. Pohrmen, P.
Gashnga and Ivy Bareh, C. Lytan ECG & X-ray tech, O.Myrchiang lab technician
Nongtalang, S. Lyngdoh ANM Nongtalang, L. Pohtam SW, A. Pohti ANM Padu, T.
Rymbui ANM Jarain, H. Lynwait ANM Jowai, Min Padu PMEN, Balapynhun Mukhim
ANM, Bonie Nonglamin Jarain, and the volunteersof the Unitarian church Padu and
Jowai.

Apart from the medical checkup, hundred s of babies and children were vaccinated and
for the first time a pathological team with the mobile unit was put to use in such camp.
The technician conducted blood test for malaria to patients who attend the camp and
hundreds of people benefitted from the camp.
