Educational Philosophy
To create an environment where students not only feel comfortable but also confident enough to
express themselves creatively, as well as academically. I strive to inspire my students in the
classroom by encouraging them to work both independently and together to achieve their goals,
and also create an environment that fosters both constructive and open communication.

Classroom Experience

Teaching Artist Fellow/Contract Teaching Artist


The Rose Theater/Omaha Theater Company Omaha, NE
In January of 2016 I was hired by The Omaha Theater Company/The Rose Theater a professional theater
company to begin work as a Teaching Artist Fellow. Eventually, I was offered a full time one year
teaching artist contract as well. The Rose is Omahas only resident, touring, and professional theater
company, as well as one of the largest in the nation. My role as a Teaching Artist included:
Both co-taught and was a lead teacher in both after school and Saturday morning classes.
Collaborated with fellow teachers to create curriculum for our classes.
Teaching in-school residencies topic such as: The American Revolution using creative drama
techniques.
Teaching pre/post-show workshops to students from Omaha to Council Bluff (IA).
Created curriculum for their Saturday morning classes (one hour, eight weeks) and helped create
curriculum for year-long after school classes. Including (but not limited to): syllabi, informational
letters home, and an overview of class curriculum.
Working with and teaching creative drama class to at risk youth in their after school programs.
Overseeing, devising, and directing a teen show with 10+ teenage students, from all over the
Omaha and Council Bluffs (IA) areas.
Working with fellow staff members to write grants for our theater continuing specific programming
for the surrounding communities.
Working on administrative projects for the theaters "Teens N Theater teen programming:
scheduling rehearsals, rehearsal spaces, performances, adding perspective students/parents to our
Teens N Theater mailing list, creating flyers to advertise upcoming projects, etc.

I started doing volunteer work that ultimately ended up as a paying job, on the weekends and during
productions at Encore Entertainers. They are a non-profit organization in the South Bay providing
theatrical education to students ages 4 through adult, through workshops, camps and full scale productions.
My responsibilities vary depending on what is needed at the time. Some of my common duties have been
the following:

Work with the children in learning their lines and blocking on stage.

Working the soundboard.

Assist in organizing the childrens daily activities.

Deal with parents and answer questions on the weekly schedules and handled complaints.

Working in the costume room to clean and organize it.

Help out where needed to ensure the theater production runs smoothly.

Collaborated with the director to coordinate the daily activities for an ensemble of 30 young actors.

Organized small groups of children while transitioning to and from outdoor play.

Sparked imaginations by helping children discover new things each day.

Greeted campers and parents entering the camp to ascertain what each camper wanted or needed.

Administered medications and kept appropriate records.

Established a safe play environment for the children.

Playwriting I/II
Analyzed and implemented dramatic structure in order to write our very own plays.

Community-Based Theatre
Took a look at theatrical works created by communities of people and took theater to the
community to work on devising theatrical and artistic work with the local firehouse.
Directing
Broke scenes down into their French scene components, researched and designed blocking
for a scene, and ultimately worked with actors to block a scene from beginning to end with
elements of scenery and props.
Acting I/II/II
Introduced to basic acting techniques from Uta Hagen and other well respected acting
teachers and self-directed and blocked scenes with scene partners.
Styles of Acting I/II
An in depth look to some styles of theater including: Shakespeare, Moliere, Chekhov,
Coward, and Williams.
Musical Theatre
Broke down songs into their bare bones monologue components, performed, and critiqued
each others performances. This class was geared toward acting technique in musical
theater rather than vocal ability.
Technical Theatre I/II/III
In these classes we learned the basics of technical theater: building a flat, hanging a light,
stitching, building a prop from scratch, how to mix paint, paint textures, and how lighting
affects scenery and costumes.
Principles of Design
In this course we were asked to take a more critical and specific look at the design process,
designing mock costumes renderings, build white models, and come up with realized
sound and lighting designs for hypothetical productions.
