BIOETHANOL FUEL PREHEATING SYSTEM TO INCREASE MACHINE PERFORMANCE AS

INNOVATION TO ENCOUNTER ASEAN ECONOMIC COMUNITY

Abstract
One of the way facing Asean economic community is energy innovation. If the innovation
provides great benefit, people would buy the product, of course the economy would increase. This
research would be talking about bioethanol that is used to energy source. Bioethanol is considered as
the leading alternative fuel nowadays because of its minimal carbon emission, hence, less air
pollution. However, bioethanol fuel still have weakness, such as lower engine performance. One of the
solution is to utilize a fuel preheating system, which raises the temperature of the fuel before the
combustion process in the combustion chamber. Rising temperature will break down fuel particle into
semi gas, making them easier to bind oxygen. As a result, the combustion efficiency increases, thus
also increasing the engine performance. This research aims to determine the effect of fuel preheating
system with bioethanol fuel. It uses a heater specially designed for the preheating system, the machine
performance is tasted using chassis dynamometer, the emission is tested using autologic gas analyzer,
and using 4-stroke motorcycle engine released in 2010. The implementation of preheating fuel system
is expected to serve as simple solution to overcome the weakness of bioethanol fuel in the engine
without doing engine modifications.
