To Pat and DeDe Robertson.
Youve been changing lives since 10-1-61 and together,
weve improved the lives of millions of sick people
all around the world! This books for you :-)
Today most people think that they need medications and highpriced hospital treatments to heal. But before the advent of synthetic
compounds, the body was accustomed to natural herbs and spices.
God has placed upon the Earth hundreds, actually thousands of
healing botanicals. You just have to know how to use them and it is my
hope that my ebook will teach you exactly that! No matter how old,
how uncomfortable or how ill you feel right now, I want to inspire you
to hold on and try some of the herbs and spices you learn about today.
You can heal with Gods plants. The plant-derived medicine that you
read about today was discussed eons ago in biblical times. The herbs
from the Scriptures have medicinal benefits and even though I am a
pharmacist, I believe that we can heal with what God gave to us. In
fact, in Genesis 1:29 (which by the way is my birthdate) it is stated:

Genesis 43:11, Numbers 17
Almonds contain salicin which, when consumed, forms salicylic acid,
the primary by-product of aspirin metabolization. We all know what
aspirins for, dont we? Anecdotal evidence suggests headache and
pain sufferers get a cumulative effect of this almond-derived aspirin.
In other words, regular headaches might become less severe or
disappear gradually with regular consumption of almonds. Eating 10
to 15 almonds per day might give you some mild pain relief. If you
are sensitive to salicylates or aspirin, almonds might make your throat
itch or give you an allergic reaction.
The almond is a popular symbol of resurrection because it is the
first tree of the season to flower imparting beautiful white flowers in
the cold months of January or February. It is a sight to behold with
snow on the flowers. Almonds are mentioned at least 6 times in the
Scriptures and only in the Old Testament.
ALOE
Aquilara malaccensis
John 19:39, Proverbs 7:17, Psalm 45:8, Song of Solomon 4:14
The Bible mentions aloe a number of times but its not the type of spiky
plant youre thinking of that soothes cuts and minor abrasions. In biblical
times, this type of aloe, was also known as aloes, lign-aloes, aloeswood,
and agarwood, all much different than the aloe plant in your kitchen.
Aloes is obtained from the Aquilarian tree, an evergreen tree native to
northern India and Southeast Asia. Aloes is a very expensive resin or
gum extracted from the tree. The tree produces this resin and essential
oil as a natural defense mechanism to ward off pathogens like fungus.
The resin forms as a reaction from some kind of injury to the tree, which
is thought to trigger an infection and thus elicits the oleoresin to grow
within the heartwood of the Aquilarian tree.
This type of aloe was often a gift combined with myrrh, cassia
(cinnamon) and other special spices used to perfume clothing and
bed linens as noted in Psalms 45:8. It was historically used by the
Egyptians for embalment of their deceased. It has been used as
incense, perfume, and traditional medicinal herbs in Ayurvedic and
Chinese medicine for eons. John 19:39 shows that Nicodemus brought
it with myrrh to embalm the body of the Lord.
Traditionally, it was used to help against pain and diseases with
inflammation. In modern day China, aloeswood is also used to
relieve nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy. Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) research shows that it is helpful for loosening

Pimpinella anisum
Mathew 23:23
Anise has an uncannily similar taste of licorice and has been known since
the time of the ancient Egyptians. It was mentioned in Jesus rebuke of
the Pharisees although some scholars have argued the translation of
anethon should have been dill. Both plants are similar and of the
same plant family.
Kings used anise to perfume their linens and it was enjoyed by both
Greeks and Romans to flavor cake and breads. Anise is soothing to the
stomach and is frequently used as a digestive aid. It can improve bad
breath and in todays pharmaceuticals, you will sometimes find anise
flavor to mask a bad taste.
Some folks feel that hanging anise plants can keep bad dreams at bay
but I havent tried that myself since I dont have bad dreams. For that
matter, I rarely remember my dreams!
There are many varieties of anise. Whats fascinating to me as
a pharmacist is that compounds in anise can reduce morphine
dependence! As for women, it has very beneficial effects on painful
BLAC K CU M IN
Nigella sativa
Isaiah 28:23
Black cumin is planted in the winter and by early summer, its jet black
seeds can be cultivated. These have a very distinct flavor are used to
flavor bread and other baked goods. According to the Bible, the seeds
are still threshed from the fruits by beating the dried plants with a
stick (Isaiah 28:28).
Black cumin is not the same as plain cumin, these are two different
spices that look different and taste different. You can include black
cumin spice in your diet or look for softgel supplements of Black
Cumin Seed oil which can help you head to toe.
The benefits of this herb are beyond phenomenal.
Researchers found that compounds in black cumin help reduce blood
sugar and improve beta cell function in the pancreas, thus this can
help with diabetes. Another study suggests that it can help reduce
the frequency of seizures in children who became resistant to drug
therapy! This anti-convulsant property is a real blessing.
MRSA is a deadly antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection, and patients
responded favorably to treatment with black cumin seed. What about
cancer? A study published in the online journal PLoS One indicates a
compound called thymoquinone from black seed can induce tumor
cell death in glioblastoma cells. Glioblastoma is one of the most
aggressive brain tumors of all. It appears to offer the same benefits in
both oral and breast cancer.
BI TTER HERBS
Exodus 12:8, Numbers 9:11
If you just ate a salad of fresh leafy greens, chances are you had some
plants that are considered bitter herbs. The most common bitter
herbs are romaine lettuce and horseradish. Your Caesar salad is
more biblical than you thought. Other bitter herbs include endive,
green onions and parsley. These bitter herbs were consumed with
unleavened bread and lamb by the Jews during the first Passover as
noted in Exodus.
10
The traditional bite that you get when you eat horseradish, known
scientifically as Armoracia rusticana, contains compounds that
provide antioxidants which supports detoxification. It also helps
to stimulate saliva, gastric and intestinal enzymes to help with
digestion. High levels of vitamin C are present along with several vital
minerals such as potassium, manganese, iron, copper, magnesium,
zinc, and sodium.
B vitamins are in horseradish root, which by the way, contains an
enzyme called horseradish peroxidase. This enzyme is highly reactive
to cancer cells. In fact, scientists have studied horseradish peroxidase
in combination with indole 3 acetic acid (a plant-derived compound)
for its effects on nasopharyngeal, bladder and breast cancer.
Lactuca sativa or romaine lettuce is another bitter herb. The tips of
romaine lettuce are the more bitter portion and they provide lots of
nutrients whether you juice them or eat them in your salads or lunch
wraps. In fact, romaine lettuce beats many other common green leafy
veggies for its overall nutritional value. Its definitely more nutritious
than iceberg lettuce. You can tell because it is darker, so it contains
more chlorophyll and remains more nutrient dense.
Romaine contains essential nutrients with higher content like calcium,
iron, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, folate, and other B vitamins
which you need to run your Methylation and Transmethylation
detoxification pathway. Physicians reading this may be interested in
more about these pathways, and if thats the case, you will want to
check out my Keyring Pathways which explains more about genes,
and medication-induced SNPs.
Romaine has the highest amount of folate of all the common lettuces.
Folate itself is essential for life including the proper formation of DNA

Cumimum cyminum
Isaiah 28:28
Cumin is part of the parsley family, and was a popular spice during
biblical times. Cumin seeds, which are really fruits, have a warm, bitter
flavor that can used to flavor cheese, soups, sauces (like tandoori
and taco sauce) and curries. Medicinally speaking, cumin is a strong
antibiotic and a digestive aid.
It can act upon genes that require certain minerals like iron and
manganese. More specifically, cumin is a great source of iron and
manganese, two minerals that serve as a cofactors driving important
metabolic pathways in your body. For example, you need iron to
break down hydrogen peroxide. You need manganese as well. Without
adequate amounts of both of these minerals, dangerous peroxide will
build up in your body and spark a lot of pain and inflammation, as
well as elevated thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies to your thyroid
gland. For more on thyroid, please refer to my Thyroid Healthy book.
Some research suggests that cumin stimulates pancreatic enzymes
and improves insulin sensitivity. In animals that had diabetes, cumin
extract was given, and found to be more effective at reducing blood
glucose and AGE (advanced glycation end products) than glyburide

Cinnamomum aromaticum
Exodus 30:23, Ezekiel 27, Proverbs 7:17, Psalm 45, Revelation 18:13
Cassia and cinnamon are derived from closely related plants but they
are not exactly the same. Cassia known scientifically as Cinnamomum
aromaticum is hard to find today, I have to buy mine from speciality
spice stores, but it was prized in Biblical times, even more than gold in
some areas. The commercial sort of cinnamon that is in 99.9 percent of
homes today is known as Cinnamomum zelandicum.
Cassia was mentioned as a trade item in Ezekiel 27. And in Psalm 45,
the garments of the King were anointed with cassia (as well as myrrh).
And again in Proverbs 7:17 where it was stated: I have perfumed my
bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
Today, spices sold in grocery stores use the commercial sort, which
has a delicious pungent flavor associated with fall and winter. Today,
cinnamon can be used for athletes foot, indigestion, improve brain

Ficus carica
Jeremiah 24:2, Samuel 30:12, 2 Kings 20:7 and Isaiah 38:21
Native to the Middle East and western Asia, the fig tree has been an
important food crop since ancient times. Dozens of Biblical references
point to its common use as a food, leaves for medicinal or other
functional purposes, and the presence of the bush tree in the Bible.
Figs grow on the Ficus tree, which is a member of the Mulberry family.
Its use has been identified even back to about 9400 BC. In Jeremiah
24:2, it was stated:
One basket had very good figs, like those that ripen early; the other
basket had very bad figs, so bad they could not be eaten.
14
If you have ever eaten a fig cookie, you will have noticed its seeds. Figs
are loaded with seeds that give it high fiber and helps satisfy hunger.
Figs are also a good source of vitamin B5 and B6, copper, potassium,
and manganese.
Figs come in many colors. These colors are due to powerful
phytochemicals or antioxidants called oliogoproanthocyanidins or
OPCs. The riper the fig is, the higher the antioxidant content. Research
published in the Chemistry Pharmacological Bulletin 2015 shows
that figs contain triterpenoids, famous for their powerful anticancer
activity. Biblical information also tells us that figs were often used in
cakes and presented for nourishment to warriors after their battles
or long journeys. The fruit has been shown to be highly beneficial at
stabilizing blood sugar and supports healthy energy production.
Bible verses describe other benefits of figs. Its not just the fruit that
provides nutritional benefit, the leaves of the fig tree are also valuable.
Twice mentioned in Scripture, is the taking of a lump of figs, making
it into a paste or plaster and then laying it upon a boil on your skin.
History tells us that Hippocrates dressed skin ulcers and wounds with
fig leaves.
15
Extracts from the fig leaf has been tested in modern times, and today
we know it can improve insulin activity, kidney function and liver
detoxification. In some test tube studies, fig leaves stopped certain
cancer cells from growing. In animal studies, fig leaves have been
shown to lower triglycerides. I eat them as soon as they come into
season! They are wonderful sliced up and put on a cracker with some
fresh chvre cheese.

Boswellia serrata
Exodus 30:34, Leviticus 2:1, 2:15, Matthew 2:11, Song of Solomon 3:6
Around the holidays, we are reminded of the most famous gifts in
history, gold, frankincense and myrrh, carried by the 3 wise men.
If we could go back to these ancient times, wed know without a
doubt that these valuable items were fit to honor a king or deity. The
gold was, and still is, a precious expensive metal, the frankincense
was used in perfume and incense, and the myrrh used as anointing oil
during burials or important religious ceremonies.
What is frankincense exactly? It is actually a gummy resin, not a leaf
or berry like most herbal supplements. Its not sap, although you can
think of it that way if you want to. The sap from the boswellia tree will
ooze out forming small white peas, which harden in the air and turns
yellow. These are burned for the aroma.
Scholars of Christianity and other biblical theologians have long
pondered why the gifts of the Magi chose to include frankincense.
What was the significance? Was it intended to spare Jesus from
future bodily aches and pains? It may sound ludicrous to you and I,
however, it is possible according to Cardiff University professors in
Wales, who have been studying the medicinal uses of frankincense.
16
17
Peaking inside my home, Ill tell you frankincense and myrrh are
often diffusing through my bedroom via an essential oil aromatizer.
You can do this too. You just pour 3 to 5 drops of it into a little
water and plug your aromatized in the wall. It will diffuse through
your room for several hours. The oil of frankincense is calming
and soothing and you will naturally deepen your breathing. Most
of us hold our breath, so deeper inhalations and exhalations with
frankincense diffusing in the room is going to do wonders for your
state of mind and overall health.
I also take frankincense as a supplement, orally, just for the health
benefits. I know too much about it and love it! Today, perfumes,
incense and candles are often infused with these two wonderful
aromas.
Boswellia has been studied and found to prevent the growth of
certain types of cancers in test tube studies. In 2009, researchers
examined AKBA or acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid and found
positive benefits. This study was titled, Frankincense Superior to
Chemotherapy in Killing Late-Stage Ovarian Cancer Cells. This is not
the first study to suggest anti-cancer properties. The results of another
study proved that frankincense oil could help with bladder cancer.
The researchers concluded, Frankincense oil might represent an
alternative intravesical agent for bladder cancer treatment.
Studies have shown that boswellia essential oil may have the ability
to unwrap biofilm on resistant staph, candida and other infections.

Allium sativum
Numbers 11.5
Garlic is mentioned in the Bible when the Israelites were wandering
in the desert after they escaped from slavery in Egypt. The Israelites
were remembering the dietary delicacies found in Egypt that included
garlic, melons, onions, and leeks. This savory herb was used by Ancient
Egyptians for culinary and medicinal purposes. It has been a staple in
the Mediterranean region for thousands of years.
Garlic is an herb called the stinking rose. It has an impressive list
of health benefits. The sulfur rich compounds produce the pungent
odor which is the source of many health promoting effects. The
entire head is called a garlic bulb, while each segment is called a
clove. There are about ten to twenty cloves in a single bulb. Garlic
has powerful anti-inflammatory effects especially for the heart and
circulatory system. It has been shown to reduce total cholesterol, LDL
cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, and blood pressure.
The journal Cancer Prevention Research shows that the sulfur
compounds found in garlic deactivate cancer causing compounds,
have numerous antimicrobial benefits, and provide major
antioxidant support.
Cardiovascular disease is associated with multiple factors such as
raised serum total cholesterol, elevated LDL and an increase in LDL
oxidation, increased platelet aggregation, hypertension, and smoking.
Numerous in vitro studies have confirmed the ability of garlic to
positively impact these parameters.

Marjorana hortensis
Leviticus 14:4
Marjoram has a lot of confusion surrounding it because someone
incorrectly classified it as oregano in the 18th century, and in the Holy
Bible, it was misinterpreted as hyssop which is another biblical herb.
But true marjoram has been used for centuries, and is sometimes left
at gravesides to help a deceased loved one rest in peace. Interestingly,
it is sometimes twined into bridal wreaths because it symbolizes love
and honor.
Marjoram contains powerful compounds such as ursolic acid, thymol
and carvacrol. These are strong antioxidants that aid digestion.
Marjoram is able to trigger the release of pepsin, a protein-digesting
enzyme termed proteolytic enzyme naturally found in your
stomach (gastric) juice. Pepsin helps you break down proteins from
meat, eggs, seeds, or dairy products and term them into smaller

Mentha piperita
Matthew 23:23
Mint gives us menthol as one of its active ingredients! You know
menthol because it is in many topical muscle-relieving salves.
Compounds in natural mint leaves can help with digestive problems. It
should be a genuine consideration for people with IBS (Irritable Bowel
Syndrome) and SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth). For these
uses, it is best taken as an enteric-coated peppermint oil capsule so it
can get through your stomach acid. It works as an antimicrobial in the
intestines. The enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules are important
because this allows the pill to come apart in your intestines, not your
stomach. Avoid peppermint if you have heartburn or reflux.
Peppermint is a consideration for colds and flu because it acts to
relieve multiple symptoms to relieve congestion, head pain, muscle
soreness, nausea and fever. You can drink a hot cup of peppermint tea
or diffuse the essential oil in a persons sick room to try and kill germs.
If you dilute the essential oil in a carrier oil like almond oil, you can
apply to your throat or chest. Peppermint also makes a good additive
for a foot bath or regular bath for that matter!
Some of you have required chemotherapy and it has induced hotflashes. There was a small study in the United Kingdom done on
women who found that using a peppermint oil solution could lessen
hot flashes induced by chemotherapy used for breast cancer. I dont
have the exact formula for this spray, however, something like 15
drops to 4 ounces of distilled water should have some effect.

MUSTA RD
Sinapis alba
Matthew 13:31, Matthew 17:20, Mark 4:31, Luke 13:19, Luke 17:6
Have you ever looked at mustard seed in the spice rack? It is tiny,
really tiny. The seeds are usually about 1-2 millimeters in diameter.
The gospels provide stories or parables of comparing the depth of
faith and its fruitful benefits with examples of how planting a tiny seed
could produce a mustard bush or tree. The tree would grow large
enough for birds to nest in its branches. This tiny seed packs a punch
also with its health benefits. In Matthew 17:20, it was stated:
Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as
small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from
here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
Mustard seeds have been used for centuries in traditional folk
medicine. It is part of the cruciferous plant family which includes
broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and others. This
remarkable seed is packed with phytonutrients and sulfur related
compounds that protects against cancer and support detoxification.
This tiny seed contains high amounts of selenium, omega 3 fatty acids,
manganese, vitamin B1, magnesium, phosphorus, and copper.
I love mayo and mustard, all of them, especially the spicy kind. Have
you ever tried different mustards? The level of heat in a given mustard
is directly related to the specific type of seed used. Yellow mustard
seeds, sometimes called white seeds, are the mildest, while brown
and black seeds much hotter and more pungent.
The liquid used to moisten those seeds in a particular recipe and
bind the mustard also has a large impact on its pungency and overall
24
flavor. You see, dried mustard seeds have no real heat on their own.
Only after theyre blended with water do the natural enzymes get
liberated from their dormant state.
No matter the color, the little mustard seed provides antiinflammatory agents that act through signaling pathways to talk
with immune compounds on managing inflammation.
If you have ever had a mustard plaster for chest congestion, you know
how hot the paste and tissues can get when it is used. These mustard
plasters are used to treat a number of disorders like rheumatism,
arthritis, chest congestion or pneumonia, aching backs, sore muscles,
nerve pain and abdominal pain. Its historical use is that as a stimulant,
diuretic (like a water pill) and purgative or to cleanse tissues.
Mustard when used purposefully causes a release of inflammation
and a deluge of macrophages to clean up stagnant tissues or areas of
poor health. This is why mustard plasters have been used with coughs,
joint pain and lung congestion. A mustard plaster is so powerful that
if it left on too long, it can burn the skin. Just like In cooking and food
preparation, mustard is a condiment. This tiny, almost microscopic
seed produces giant effects in more ways than one!
MY RRH
Commiphora myrrha
Esther 2:12, Genesis 37:25, Exodus 30:23, Matthew 2:11, Psalm 45:8
Myrrh comes from the gummy resin of the myrrh tree. The myrrh tree
is native to Somalia, but the name myrrh is derived from the Hebrew
murr or maror, which translates to bitter. Myrrh smells nice so it is
commonly used in perfumes and also embalming oils but dont burn
it, myrrh gives off an almost repulsive odor.

OL I V E
Olea europaea
Genesis 8:11, Exodus 27:20, Deuteronomy 8:8, Kings 6:32
Olive is mentioned 56 times in the Bible. Numerous passages talk
about the branches of olive trees which is used to convey the universal
symbol of peace. The olive leaf was brought to Noah after the great
flood showing that the flood waters had abated. Olive oil was used
for the burning in lamps to create light. It was used to anoint kings
in honor. Olive trees were an abundant source of wood for temple
buildings and beautiful architecture.
Olives and olive oil is a staple of the Mediterranean Diet. This diet is
considered to be among the best diets for heart health and longevity.
It has a long list of benefits with heart health, blood pressure,
cholesterol, cancer risk reduction, skin health, breast health, blood
sugar support, inflammation reducing, and provides highly desirable
antioxidants. Simply replacing inferior dietary oils like corn, soybean,
or vegetable, with extra virgin olive oil has been shown to be beneficial
with overweight and obese older adults. Research found that using
olive oil reduced blood pressure, improved HDL, and helped T-cell
immune function.
Olive leaf provides remarkable benefits for health challenges. You
27
can buy olive leaf extract if you want a natural antibiotic. Olive
leaf extracts are commonly used for immune support to help defeat
infections, especially in the digestive and respiratory tract. The active
ingredients in olive leaf provides antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal,
antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory support and even helps
lower blood pressure.
The olive branch is a common symbol of bringing peace within
culture and friendships, but perhaps we can use this metaphor for
physiological comparison. When using olive oil and olive leaf extracts,
these compounds relax the body and bring health and thus peace to
an overworked, tired body.

Crocus sativus
Song of Solomon 4:14
Surprisingly, saffron is mentioned in only one verse, Song of Solomon
4:14. This is the most expensive spice known to us in this day and age.
It was mentioned for its stunning beauty, not medicinal benefits. One
kilogram cost over ten thousand dollars! The flowers are picked and
put in baskets then taken to a house where the stigmata are removed
from the center of the flower.
Saffron flowers are fragrant in addition to being flashy. Farms that
harvest them will discard the flowers after removing the stigmata
and it is beautiful and fragrant. The stigmata are carefully dried over
a charcoal fire giving them the appearance of dark red threads which
are then used as a spice; prior to heating, they have very little flavor.
You can just imagine eating the center of a flower. Its the roasting that
elicits the healing benefits of saffron.
Saffron is an antidepressant spice that helps with anxiety and
insomnia. It contains many biologically active compounds including
crocin and safranal which protect levels of dopamine, serotonin and
norepinephrine, just like the prescription antidepressants. Crocetin
is helpful at combating Parkinsons disease at least according to an

SAG E
Salvia judaica
Exodus 37:17
The 7 branched candlestick called the Menorah in Jewish history
represents the 7 days of creation. It comes to us from the sage plant
which thrived on the mountains and hills of Palestine. When layed
flat, the sage plant has almost exactly the same form and shape as
the 7 branched candlestick described thousands of years ago.
Sage extract is good for your mind, it can protect your memory and
improve your mood. There are different types of sage, for example
theres an aromatic variety that Native Americans burn in smudging
ceremonies. I cant say it smells good, however, the effect is intended
31
to ward off evil spirits. Then theres common sage (Salvia officinalis)
and clary sage (Salvia sclarea). I like to buy fresh sage in the produce
section at supermarkets and cut it into dishes like chicken, soup and
meatloaf. I put it in my slow cooker when I make vegetable, bone or
chicken broth.
There is some Iranian research done on patients with mild to moderate
Alzheimers disease that proved sage produced a significantly better
outcome on cognitive functions. Interestingly, sage was shown in lab
studies to help reduce flare-ups of herpes-related viruses such as cold
sores and genital herpes.
