B. Braun Sutures
Ventrofil
For tension relief

Suture set with twisted stainless steel thread and a polyethylene

cover

Ventrofil
For tension relief
The rupture of an abdominal wound is still regarded as a serious life-threatening complication. Its frequency is
given in the literature as 1-3%, its mortality rate as 15-20%.
The healing of a wound can be interrupted by a number of factors, most of them have their origin in the general
situation of the patient. Possible factors are elderly patients, chronical respiratory illness, or metabolic disorders.
The only possibility to prevent such a complication is the primary use of a tension relief suture set.
Ventrofil is a Special Suture Set for the treatment and prevention of abdominal ruptures after laparotomy or
other wound dehiscence and for the relief of strain on existing wounds.

Use of Ventrofil

Indications
Probable woundhealing disturbances
Emergency laparotomies
Re-laparotomies
Peritonitis/ileus
Elderly patients
Broncho-pulmonary infections
Operations of carcinoma
Long lasting operations
Coagulation abnormalities

The suture is placed as far as possible from the operating wound, and it should
not include the peritoneum.
The suture should traverse the abdominal wall approximately tangentially and
preperitoneally.
The fascial sutures are adapted only loosely.
The suture is placed through the slits of the plates.
The U-shaped sutures are fixed with measured tension by four or five counter
hitches.
Under normal conditions, i.e. with undisturbed woundhealing, the Ventrofil
is removed after about 2 weeks.
