4. Two 16 mm thick plates are joined by double cover butt joint using a 10 mm thick cover plate,
having permissible tensile stress is 150 MPa. Determine the strength and efficiency of of the joint
per pitch of 90 mm. Assume; 20 mm diameter power driven shop rivets with bearing stress and
shear stress of rivets are 300 MPa and 100 MPa respectively.
5. Two plates 200 x 8 mm of grade Fe410 are connected by 20 mm diameter bolts of grade 4.6
using butt joint. Design the bolted connection to transmit a pull equal to the strength of the plate.
6. Determine the effective net area for the section shown in figure. The angles are connected are
shown in the figure. The steel of grade is Fe-410.

7. Determine the effective net area of double angle section connected to a gusset plate 12mm in
thickness as shown in figure, for the following data.

stress in rivet is 60 MPa. Evaluate the diameter of rivet required.
