Why did

choose
this
article?
In my essay I wanted to enlighten how knowing your personal learning style affects on
academic success. I expressed my own opinion stating that and paraphrased a sentence
from the article, which is used to support my evidence.
Is the
article
credible?
How?
I think it very credible, because the journal is a property of Pennsylvania State University
press. I made a research on Google Scholar to identify citations and authors works, he
wrote a book A case study of the development of four prospective elementary teachers'
conceptual frameworks on learning and teaching science, which is on the similar area, was
co-author of other articles in the same journal.
Is the
author
biased?
How do
you
know?
It seems authors opinions in the article are neutral, he uses reliable sources of citations to
support his ideas, overall tone of article is academic. He exposed the topic of writing. Thus, I
think the author is not biased.
Is the
article
relevant?
How?
It is relevant, because I included in my essay a passage about personal learning style and
how it affects academic success. The book also describes how it affects on future learning.

Unfortunately for most first-year students entering a new learning landscape, the
first semester of college is traumatic and typically does not provide support for the
levels of reflection necessary to begin this introspection. Amidst all of the chaos of
settling into university life, students seldom have time to consider Who am I as a
learner? Often they are away from personal support structures for the first time
and find taking responsibility for their successes as university students a daunting
task. They must quickly learn to negotiate through the physical campus. Immersed
in a new system of bureaucracy, they attempt to deal with conflicting course
schedules and finding ways to drag themselves to late night and early morning
classes, all the while holding the expectation that their new found freedom is
supposed to be emancipating. However, having the time, support, and structure to
get to know oneself and how one learns, could be one of the most important tasks
a new university student undertakes to ensure future academic success.
Summarized:
First year for of college for students is mostly traumatic and they seldom ask themselves
about personal learning styles. They are often away from personal learning structures,
focusing on diligent completion of tasks up to late night. However, if a one has time,
structure, how one learns, it could be one of the important tasks on a way to academic
success.

Paraphrased:
Knowing a personal learning style creates more complex understanding about ourselves
and appear to focus on responsibility for our success as learners.

The article was found at the U.S. database of dissertations and theses.
I am assured they were professionally checked before being published,
so the article is credible.
As I read the article, authors keep neutral style of writing in the text,
results emerge from research, no plagiarism as it is published on the
website and checked. However, as they express their own opinions
about the experiment conducted, some bias can occur.

How?
It is hard to say about the whole book is it biased. There are some
examples where author expresses his opinion based on his experience,
calling critical thinking as headscratching (this is actually his own point
of view). So I think sometimes author is biased.
