Loading Instrument
A loading instrument consists of software and
hardware on which it runs. CSR-BC defines a
loading instrument as an instrument which is
either analog or digital and by means of which
it can be easily and quickly ascertained that,
at specified read-out points, the still water
bending moments, shear forces, in any load or
ballast condition, do not exceed the specified
permissible values.
Bulk carriers of 150 m in length and upwards
shall be fitted with a loading instrument capable
of providing information on hull girder shear
forces and bending moments (SOLAS Chapter
XII, Regulation 11).
Bulk carriers of less than 150 m in length
constructed on or after 1 July 2006 shall be fitted
with a loading instrument capable of providing
information on the ships stability in the intact
condition (SOLAS Chapter XII, Regulation 11).
