solventextraction.Thefinalrecoverystepmayinvolveprecipitation,cementation,oran

Electrometallurgyinvolvesmetallurgicalprocessesthattakeplaceinsomeformofelectrolytic
cell.Themostcommontypesofelectrometallurgicalprocessesareelectrowinningand
electrorefining.Electrowinningisanelectrolysisprocessusedtorecovermetalsinaqueous
solution,usuallyastheresultofanorehavingundergoneoneormorehydrometallurgical
processes.Themetalofinterestisplatedontoacathode,whileananodeiscomposedofan
inertelectricalconductor.Electrorefiningisusedtodissolveanimpuremetallicanode(typically
fromasmeltingprocess)andproduceahighpuritycathode.Fusedsaltelectrolysisisanother
electrometallurgicalprocesswherebythevaluablemetalisdissolvedintoamoltensalt,which
actsastheelectrolyte,andthevaluablemetalcollectsonthecathodeofthecell.[3]
