Bio

Session Abstract

Fellow ASHRAE, ASHRAE-Certified High Performance Building Design Professional, associate


professor, University of Nebraska Lincoln, was installed as treasurer of ASHRAE at its 2014 Annual
Conference held June 28-July 2.
As the Societys treasurer, Wentz serves on the Board of Directors and ASHRAEs Executive
Committee, chairs the Finance Committee and is vice chair of Members Council and the Advocacy
Committee. He also is a member of the Building Energy Quotient Committee, Planning Committee,
Developing Economies Ad Hoc Committee, Building Performance Alliance Ad Hoc Committee and
Standard Project Committee 214P, Standard for Measuring and Expressing Building Energy
Performance in a Rating Program; webmaster, Region IX.
Wentz was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Business
Administration from the University of Nebraska. Upon graduation from the University, Prof. Wentz went
to work for his familys mechanical contracting firm. As the fourth generation to join the firm, he had the
opportunity to develop an expertise in mechanical design, estimating, and construction management.
He spent 19 years in the industry, working on a wide range of mechanical projects throughout the
Midwest, including hospitals, nursing homes, schools, factories and other large commercial enterprises.
Since entering academia Prof. Wentz has received numerous awards and honors for his teaching and
service to the HVAC industry. He is the recipient of the E.K. Campbell Award of Merit, a Region IX
Regional Award of Merit, a Region IX Chapter President of the Year and a Regional Energy Award. The
Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) has named Tim their national Educator of the
Year award on three occasions and in 2009 awarded Tim its highest honor, the Distinguished Service
Award. Tim has received the Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Constructions
Outstanding Educator Award and the College of Engineerings Holling Award for outstanding teaching
and mentoring.
Wentz previously served two terms as vice president on the Board of Directors and also as Region IX
director and regional chair.
ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a building technology society with more than 50,000 members worldwide.
The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality,
refrigeration and sustainability within the industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing and
continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrows built environment today.

This presentation will focus on emerging trends that will transform our
industry, including changes in technology and globalization. ASHRAEs
highly successful Advanced Energy Design Guides (AEDG) will be used as
an example of how these emerging trends will impact all of us and, at the
same time, reveal new opportunities.
