5 Important Factors For The Best

College
After completing school education, students launch upon higher education by seeking
admission to college. They are at a turning point in their lives; they come with great
dreams, great admissions and of course, great expectations. College life is an important
phase in their life and they have their own ideas about college life. If they do not get a
college of their choice or if the college is not up to their expectations, it can lead students
be frustrated or depressed. Some of them may lose interest in studies and quit half way.
College authorities must constantly interact with students and explore their needs.
Based on a general survey, the necessary facilities should be arranged for.

There is a competition among colleges these days to prove to be the best. Colleges spend
a lot of time, efforts and money in the race to be the best; yet some colleges fail to give
simple but essential necessities that students expect from a college. Certain factors are
responsible for identification of a college as the best college.

5 important factors for the best college

Lectures and classes: Students chiefly join a college in order to gain

knowledge. Hence, every college must have a systematic time-table. Lectures must be
conducted regularly. If there are any changes or cancellations they must be conveyed in
time. Students wake up early, travel long distances to arrive in college at the given time;
if they find that the lecture is cancelled, it can be very disappointing. Colleges must have
faculty back-up in case of emergency so that students remain engaged at any cost.
Lecturers must conduct classes regularly and punctually and serve as an example to the
students.

Infrastructural facilities: students do not expect huge air-conditioned halls;

the best you can arrange for are comfortable, well-lighted and ventilated classrooms
sufficiently large to accommodate all students. Tables and benches must be enough and
comfortable. Other facilities include pure drinking water, clean toilet blocks, separate
common rooms for boys and girls, an auditorium, a library, workshops or laboratories
depending on the courses conducted, spots facilities and a good library. Computers,
internet, gym hall etc are additional facilities which students like to enjoy.

Teachers and staff: Teachers still play a pivotal role in the present system of
education. Teachers must be serious, committed dedicated and competent. They must
have good knowledge of their respective subjects and must encourage students,
motivate them and interact with them. Teachers must try to find out the difficulties and
problems faced by students and help them to overcome them. Students may revolt
strongly against unfair and partial teachers, teachers who are carefree, who have a
tendency to blackmail students and who cannot teach well, which is their actual job.

Atmosphere/ discipline: The atmosphere in a college is very important. There

must be strict disciplinary rules in every college. Lack of discipline leads to quarrels and
conflicts on the campus, company of bad students, anti-social and anti-national
activities, chaos and riots. A college is a sacred place where students come to study. The
sanctity of the college must be maintained at any cost. A college that lacks discipline
cannot promote education and gets a bad reputation.

Opportunities:A good college is one that provides ample opportunities for all
round development of students. The college must organize competitions; assign projects
and assignments, sports events, workshops, seminars, conferences, field trips and visits,
picnics, cultural programmes, extra-curricular activities etc. round the year. Students
must be encouraged to participate in maximum number of activities. This will keep the
students occupied and deter their thoughts from wandering in wrong directions. It will
also take care of holistic development of students.

Management: Last of all, it is the management that oversees the working of a

college. Managements must be cooperative regarding teachers and students and attend
to complaints or grievances promptly. They must try to fulfill the demands of students
as far as possible. Students must be treated with due respect. It is not advisable to be too
harsh with them. They must maintain an affordable fee structure and give concessions
to needy and deserving students. Management must support teachers if they wish to
conduct research or enhance their qualifications.

F these 5 minimum areas are taken care of, a college can be qualified as one of the best
colleges.
