This is the Manual for Secrets to Candle Making Success 2
Please review all SAFETY tips in the first Secrets to

Candle Making Success manual, along with
information on where to get supplies, prior to starting
this manual.
Few things to remember:
Always use mold release spray or vegetable oil spray in
your mold so they will release.
Heat your wax to the recommended manufacturers
temperatures.
Practice caution when making and lighting candles (see
first manual for details).
Always add fragrance last, right before you are ready to
pour your candle, and stir it in well.
Soy and palm wax do not need additives but paraffin wax
usually does. (Additives I use for each candle are noted in
the supplies list.)
Use gloves when working with dye (especially with liquid
dye!)
Keep your candle making equipment clean by wiping out
your pour pots and utensils with paper towels in between
each candle you create.
Add fragrance according to the manufacturers
suggestions (usually 1 oz. per lb. which is 2 T. per lb.)

Hurricane Candle
Supplies needed:
- GenWax 160 Hurricane wax or Gen140 wax with 1-2
teaspoons MicroC )
- Water bath enough water to cover the mold up about
inch to inch from the top.
- Pliers with a good grip
- Mold sealer (blue putty goo)
- Wooden skewer
- Dye, if you want
- Circular mold (works best but you can also try other styles)
- Mold release spray.
1 - Seal the bottom of your mold if it is one with a hole in it. I like
to use some masking tape AND the blue stuff as a mold sealer.
2 - Test your water bath to be sure it is the right level. Dont let
the water flow into the mold!
3 - Spray mold.
4 - Pour wax into mold at 190 degrees.
5 - Place mold into cold water bath.

6 - Allow to harden until about inch of wax has cooled
around the edges.
7 - Poke a large hole in the center and allow all the wax to pour
out.
8 - Clean up the inside of your hurricane candle.
9 - Allow to harden for about 2-3 hours, then remove from mold.
10 - Add a tea light to the center and enjoy!
Second way to make hurricane candles

Supplies needed:
- Vegetable oil
- Napkin (to coat the containers with oil)
- 2 different sized round containers
- 1 lb hurricane wax (or Gen140 wax with 1-2 teaspoons MicroC)
- Stuff to put in candle like pine leaves, sea glass, shells,

marbles, coffee beans, etc. (flammable items are okay
because the hurricane wax doesnt melt)
1- Heat wax with dye.
2 - Coat the containers with vegetable oil so the mold will
remove easily.
3 - Once wax reaches 180 degrees you can pour a layer into
the base of the larger container.
4 - Allow that layer to harden completely.
5 - Then place the second container on it and fill around the
sides with your objects.
6 - Pour the wax (at 190 degrees) to fill the spaces. At this
temperature it will adhere well to the first layer you poured.
7 - Put in water bath or just allow to cool overnight.
8 - Remove containers and candle is ready to go.
$$$ Instead of buying hurricane wax, you can create hurricane
candles with Gen140 wax with 1-2 teaspoons MicroC added)
Hurricane Layered
Candle
Supplies needed:
- 1 lb. hurricane wax one color
- 1 lb. hurricane wax another color
- Circular mold
- Water bath
- Mold release spray
- Blue goo (to seal hole in mold)
- Wick with wick tab
- Two colors of dye
1 - Melt one color wax. This will be the outside color of your
shell.
2 Once the wax reaches 175 degrees, pour into mold (that
has been coated with mold release).
3 Place mold in water bath carefully.
4 - Allow the wax to harden until about to inch of wax has

cooled around the edges.
5 - Poke a large hole in the center and allow all the wax to pour
out.
6 - Clean up the inside of your hurricane candle if there is extra
wax around the layer.
7 - Sit aside and allow it to completely harden before the next
color is poured in.
8 - Add a wick with wick tab by hot gluing it to the bottom of
the candle after 1 or 2 layers (so you have enough room to fit
the wick tab at the base).
9 - Melt the second color of wax. Pour the wax (at 180
degrees) ONLY up to the top of the first wax. If you go over
that, the candle will not look nice. Put candle into a cold water
bath.
10 - Re-melt the first color of wax again. Pour into the center of
the mold at 185 degrees.
11 - Allow to harden until about to inch of wax has cooled
around the edges.
12 - Poke a large hole in the center and allow all the wax to
pour out.
13 - Clean up the inside of your hurricane candle if there is
extra wax around the layer.
14 - Allow it to completely harden before the next color is
poured in.
15 - Continue to do this with as many layers as youd like until

the mold is full. Remember to increase the temperature you
pour the wax at by 5 degrees each time (this will help the layers
to adhere together well.) Depending on how long you allow
the layers to cool, the width of the layer will be different.
Cool As Ice Candle
Supplies needed:
- Cardboard juice box or milk box (or even use a candle mold)
- Stearin (if you have this, add it 1 Tablespoon)
- Needs primed wick (this means you need to have a wick that
is covered in wax)
- Few cups of crushed ice
- Blue goo (this is the stuff you use to put posters on the wall,
found in any office supply store)
- Popsicle stick (with hole in center) OR wick assembly kit
- Sharp knife
- Scissors
- Cookie cooling rack or 2 books of the same thickness
- 1 lb. of paraffin wax
- Wax dye
- Candle fragrance (if you want)
Also needed:
- Large pot
- Smaller pot (that fits in large pot)
- Electric stove (NOT gas)
- Wood paint stirrer
1 Take your container and poke a small hold in the bottom at

the exact center with a sharp knife.
2 - Use a primed (wax coated wick) so the wick wont get wet
from the ice. Thread the wick up through the hole you just
made.
3 - Secure the wick at the bottom of the container with some of
the blue stuff and a knot in the wick OR use a wick assembly kit
(you can purchase for a few dollars at any candle store).
4 - Place the container on a cooling rack (or 2 books) so it sits
flat.
5 - Heat 1 lb. of paraffin wax up to 180 degrees. Add some wax
dye depending on what color you want it.
6 - As soon as your wax gets to 180 degrees, add a candle
fragrance (if youd like) and stir well for 2 minutes. (Note: the
manufacturer will tell you how much of the fragrance to use.)
7 - Fill the container with ice.
Crushed ice works best but you can use cubes of ice too if
you want to try a different look.it will have large holes so
I suggest pouring a second color wax over it once the first
layer dries, to fill in all those holes and make a better
burning candle.
8 - Carefully pour the wax over the ice in the container.
9 - Let the candle dry completely overnight (or at least 4 hours)
10 - Then let it dry upside-down on paper towel to get all the
water out another 4 hours to overnight.
11 If you did not use a primed wick (one that was coated in
wax), allow the candle to dry at least a week before you light
it. If you used a primed wick, you can light it after 24 hours.
*** There are 2 Different ways to make this candle!

After the candle has dried completely, you can then take it out
of the mold and use like that OR you can pour a second color
wax in the container now for a neat 2 color look.
The video shows you BOTH ways to make this fun ice candle.

Splash of Colors
Supplies needed:
- Candle mold
- Stearin (see instructions for measurements)
- MicroC 175 (see instructions for measurements)
- 1 lb of paraffin wax
- 2 colors of dye
- Pot of cold water
- 2 small pour pots
- Paper towels
- Fragrance (if you want)
1 - Melt lb wax with 1 t stearin and t MicroC and one color
dye in a small pour pot. (Melt to 190 degrees)
2 - Melt lb wax with 1 t stearin and t MicroC and the other
color dye in a second small pour pot. (Melt to 190 degrees)
3 - One color at a time, drizzle the wax into the water slowly.
When you do this, make sure you move around so the wax
does not pool on top of already cooled wax.
4 - Allow the wax to sit on top of the water for a few seconds
and then remove and place on a paper towel to dry.
5 - Melt lb of wax (no dye added) with just T stearin to 180
degrees.
6 - Then fill mold with those strands any way you want.
7 - Pour the non-colored wax over it. You can either fill this wax
completely over the strands of colored wax or you can allow
some of the strands to stick up out of the top for a different style
candle. (Photos of both options shown above.)
8 - Allow the candle to harden overnight before removing from
the mold.
HOT Ideas:
- Make layers with the colors as you put them in the mold.
- Mix up the colors in the mold.
- Add more than just 2 colors.
- Put one color on the right side and another on the left side.
(This is what I did in the video.)
$$$ Use a clean coffee can to make this candle, instead of
using a mold.
Grubby Coated
Supplies needed:
- 1 lb of Gen140 paraffin wax
- 1 teaspoon Vybar 103
- Wax dye if you want (I used some white dye and a little honey dye)
- Paint brush that is NOT synthetic, just a cheap one from the
hardware store is okay
- Whisk or electric beaters (if you have an old pair you want to use just
for candles now)
1 - Melt 1 lb. of wax with 1 t vybar and your choice of dye until
everything is melted together, around 160 degrees.
2 Remove the wax from the heat and cool until it starts to
coat the sides of the pot well.
3 - Whip it with a whisk (dont splash and burn yourself!) Get it
to a thick cake batter consistency.
4 - Dip your candle in it for a few seconds just to get it coated.
5 - Place the candle on wax paper.
6 - Set aside the candle for 5 minutes while whipping your wax
during that time, to a mashed potato consistency.
7 - Take your brush and put the whipped wax around it (I do it
about -1/2 inch thick.)
8 - Coat the candle completely or as you desire. Allow to dry.
HOT Idea:
Use different colors of whipped wax. You can
just add the two colors randomly on the candle or add the
colors in layers.
$$$ Use a whisk or even an old fork if you dont want to spend
money on an old set of electric beaters (at a flea market or
yard sale).
Caution: Protect your eyes. Consider wearing safety glasses
when whipping the wax.
Paper Napkin Candle
Supplied needed:
- A little bit of paraffin wax (1 inch by 1 inch block)
- Decorative napkin
- Pot of hot water
- Candle
- Craft glue stick
- Tea light
- Scissors
- Pliers (with a good grip!)
- Piece of wax paper
1 - Melt a small bit of wax. Also heat up some water in another
pot.
2 - Cut the napkin the perfect size to cover the sides of the
candle completely and just very slightly overlap on one side.
3 - Glue the napkin down to the sides of the candle. Be sure
seam is glued down well.
4 - Allow glue to dry a few minutes.
5 - Pour melted wax onto the top of the hot water.

6 - Gently dip the candle completely in the pot with the wax
and hot water, carefully using your pliers.
7 - Sit the candle on some wax paper to dry for an hour.
$$$ Use a napkin that you have leftover from a special
celebration. Makes a great memory candle! OR get pretty
candles from the dollar store.
CAUTION: Please use caution while burning because if this
burns incorrectly, the napkin can catch on fire.
HOT Idea:
Use Happy Birthday napkins to make
candles for a special birthday celebration!
Cinnamon Buns
Supplies needed:
- Cookie sheet or glass bake pan
- Cinnamon
- 1 lb of paraffin wax
- Light brown dye
- Cinnamon fragrance (or whatever you chose)
- Cookie cooling rack
- Knife
- Votive wicks (without wick tab)
1 - Coat the bottom of pan with cinnamon.
2 - Heat the wax to 180 degrees. You can add some light
brown or cream colored dye if youd like. Also, dont forget to
add some yummy smelling scent!
3 - Pour the wax into the pan. Just fill it up about inch.
4 Sit the pan up on a cookie rack to cool 10-15 minutes or until

its hardened up a bit but still warm and pliable.
5 - Once it is ready, cut your wax into strips.
6 - Put your wick it place along one edge of the wax and roll
the wax up! (Use gloves if you dont want to get the wax on
your hands or if its too hot to touch.)
7 - Allow to sit so they can set.
8 - Melt lb of wax with some white or honey colored dye.
(This is for the glazed topping.) You just need to heat it up
enough for all the wax to melt.
9 - Allow the wax to cool down a bit so it thickens up.
10 - Pour the wax slowly on top of the cinnamon bun so it sticks
and some runs down the side.
11 - Let the candle set for 24 hours and enjoy!
TIP: Make sure the pan does not have a Teflon or another
coating because the wax will stick to it!
Tie Dyed
Supplies needed:
- 2-3 colors of dye (cut into small flakes)
- Large pot of hot water
- Candle (any size or color is fine!)
- Pliers (with a good grip!)
- Gloves to protect your hands
1 - Cut flakes off your solid dye so you have a bunch of small
pieces of the dye.
2 - Heat water to 180 degrees (hot but not boiling). Then
spread some of the dye flakes on the top and give them a
second to melt.
3 - Grip your candle well with the pliers, then slowly dip it into
the pot.
4 - Clean out the pot by wiping a piece of paper towel or
newspaper through it. Then add the second color of dye
flakes.
5 Keep dipping until you have achieved the desired look.

Then allow to dry a few hours before using.
HOT Ideas:
- Use 3 or more colors of dye
- Dip just half the candle in the first color of dye then dip the
other half of the candle in the second color
- Add some masking tape on the candle where you dont want
the dye to adhere to the candle. Then dip candle into the dye
and once it has dried, remove the tape for a neat look. (More
complete instructions for doing something like this can be
found on the next few pages.)
Stripes
Supplies needed:
- Thin masking tape
- Candle
- 2 lb. paraffin wax
- Dark color dye
- Pliers (with a good grip)
- Pot of cold water
1 - Heat up 2 lbs of paraffin wax with a dark color dye added.
You dont need to heat it to a specific temperature, just until its
melted and all the dye is incorporated well.
2 - Make a design on your candle with the masking tape.
(wherever you put the tape, the original color of the candle will
show)
3 - Using pliers, grip the candle and dip it into the wax. Dip a
few times. Bring down into the wax for a second and back up
to dry a few seconds.
4 - Then dip your candle right into the cold water bath.
5 - Allow to cool an hour until completely hardened. Then
remove the tape carefully.
Sundae
Supplies needed:
- lb. paraffin wax (plus a little more for chocolates)
- Dark brown dye
- White dye
- Chocolate fragrance
- Candy mold
- Wick
- Spoon
- Whisk
- Small dessert glassware
- Wood skewer
1- Melt lb of paraffin wax with some white dye (and
fragrance if you desire).
2 - Once the wax has melted, remove from heat and place on
cooling rack or hot pad.
3 - Want to add some chocolate candies? Just pour some
chocolate scented brown paraffin wax into candy molds.
4 - Once the wax has cooled down and is starting to harden up

along the edges of the pot, start whipping it carefully. Whip the
wax 5-10 minutes until its a mashed potato consistency.
5 - Spoon the wax into a glass container and shape like a
scoop of ice cream.
6 - Make a hole in the center of the wax with a wood skewer
and place the wick in there.
7 - Add your candy decorations. Push down carefully into the
warm wax so they dont fall off!
8 - If you want some hot fudge, just melt down a little bit of wax
with a dark brown color and chocolate fragrance. Allow it to
cool down a bit so it is thicker and will stick to your ice cream.
Angled Layers
Supplies needed:
- Sand
- Large pot or plastic container
- Mold or glass container
- Wick
- Wick assembly kit
- 3 different colors of dye
- 1 lb of wax (divided into three containers)
- Fragrance of your choice (can do all three layers the same scent or
three different ones!)
1 - Fill a pot with damp sand. Then position your prepared mold
or container into the sand at an angle.
2 - Pour the wax into the container until you at least fill the
bottom of it.
3 - Allow wax to hard completely. Then you can go in and

wipe the side of the container if any wax splashed out of place.
4 - Now position the container in sand at a different angle.
5 - Pour the second color of wax on top of the first layer. The
wax should be the same temperature as the first wax you
poured, or 10 degrees hotter.
6 Allow to cool and repeat steps until your container is full.
TIP: When you are making layered candles, you might get
white lines where 2 colors meet, as shown in photo below. This
is typically because the temperature of the wax was too low
when it was poured. Always be sure your second (and third
and fourth and so on) is the same temperature of the first pour
or 10 degrees hotter and this shouldnt happen. (Although I still
think this candle looks pretty cool!)
Layers
Supplies needed:
- Candle mold (or container)
- 2 colors of dye
- 1 lb. of wax ( lb for each color)
- Pen
- Wick and wick kit assembly
- 1 T. stearin
- 1 t. MicroC 175
- t. UV inhibitor
1 - Prepare your mold with the wick and mold release.

2 - Plan how you are going to make your layers. Make a mark
with pen on the outside of your mold (or place some tape on
the outside of your container).
3 - Heat up lb of wax with of the additives and the first

color you want to use.
4 - Pour the first layer into the mold at 150 degrees.
5 - Heat up the second lb of wax with the other of the
additives and the second color you want to use.
6 - Once the first layer of wax has cooled and formed a crust
across the top you can pour the second layer at 160 degrees.
7 - Repeat the process and increase the pouring temperature
by 10 degrees every time.
8 - Allow candle to sit overnight before removing from the
mold.
Sand Fun
Im going to show you three types of

sand candles you can make!
Supplies needed:
- Sand
- Large pot
- Water
- Wick (primed is best)
- Wood skewer
- Wick bar
- Spoon
Sand Candle 1
1 Fill a pot with damp sand that is packed down well.

2 Use any container to mold the sand into a shape (or just use
your fingers to shape it any way you want!)
3 Heat your wax to 180 degrees. Just add dye, no additives
required. Remove wax from heat until it cools to 150-160
degrees. (Pouring hotter than this will encourage sand to stick
to your wax.)
4 Poke a hole in the very bottom of the sand (in the center)
and put your primed wick down into that hole. Secure wick in
place with a wick bar.
5 Pour wax into sand mold carefully. Allow the wax to hit the
back of a spoon so it doesnt hit the sand hard.
6 Let harden overnight then remove from mold and you can
brush off extra wax.
I didnt do a second pour. But if you mold sinks you might need
to repour.
Sand Candle 2
1 Create a molded form in your damp sand.

2 Use the top of a small fragrance container to put some
holes down into the sand in order to make legs for your candle
to sand on!
3 Add shells around the edge of the mold.
4 Pour the wax into the mold (at 200 degrees). Remember to
pour slowly and use a spoon to deflect the wax as you pour.
5 - Let harden overnight then remove from mold. The sand will
stick to the wax for this candle so you can run it under cold
water gently to get any excess off (that isnt sticking) if you
want or just leave it.
I didnt do a second pour. But if you mold sinks you might need
to repour.
To get a thicker layer of sand to stick on the outside of this
candle, you need to heat the wax up higher than 200 degrees.
To do this, you need to melt the wax directly on the electric
plate instead of using a double boiler. I do not do this because
of the increased risks of fire. If you chose to do so, please use
extreme caution.
Sand Candle 3
1 In your pot of damp sand, use pens or any type of object to

make a bunch of different sized holes in the sand. This candle
works best if you have some sand carved out so it will have a
nice base (just push the base of a bowl down into the center of
the sand before you start making the holes in it.)
2 Poke a hole all the way down to the bottom, in the center
of the candle and insert your wick. Then cover that whole with
sand so the wax doesnt seep down into that hole.
3 At 160 degrees, pour your wax into the holes in the sand
and allow it to fill up a bit more so there is a base.
4 - Let harden overnight then remove from mold. Brush off
excess sand if you want.
Cold Pour
Supplies needed:
- 2 lb. of paraffin wax (1 lb for each color)
- Fragrance
- 2 molds (with mold release spray)
- 2 colors of dye
- 2 small pour pots
- Wick kit assembly
- Wick
- Whisk
* This is enough for 2 candles.
1 Melt 1 lb. of wax with 1 color dye and fragrance in one pot
and the other 1 lb. of wax with a second color dye and
fragrance in another pot. Just heat it up until the wax it melted
and the dye is incorporated.
2 Remove the pots from the heat and allow to cool to about
135 degrees. Stir occasionally and scrape down sides so clumps
do not form.
3 Pour the 2 colors of dye into the mold at the same time.
4 Allow the candle to cool overnight then remove from mold.
Heres an example of 3 candles that were poured at different
temperatures so you can see that depending on when you
pour you can get different looks.
Left: I poured the candle just when the wax had started to
thicken up a bit.
Center: I poured the wax around a cake batter consistency
Right: I poured the wax at a runny mashed potato consistency
Rolled Paraffin
Supplies needed:
- Wax paper
- 2 pot lids or pie tins
- 2 colors of dye
- 2 pour pots
- Rolling pin (or thick glass bottle)
- Sharp knife
- Wick
1 Heat up lb of wax in one pot with 1 color dye. Heat up
lb of wax in the second pot with the second color dye.
2 Set a piece of wax paper in a pie tin. (Need two of these)
3 Once wax is completely melted (no specific temperature
needs to be reached before you pour this one), pour into the
pie tins.
4 Allow wax to cool until they are no longer runny, but still
warm and pliable.
5 Pull pieces of wax apart and pile on top of one another. Put
on wax paper.
6 Place a second piece of wax paper on top. Roll gently until
the wax has flattened to to inches.
7 Cut out a rectangle shape.
8 Place a wick along the edge of the rectangle and begin to
roll it up, using the wax paper to help guide you.
9 Make sure base of candle is completely flat so it will stand.
TIP: Chose your wick for whatever size you want your finished
candle. Just want a 1 inch diameter candle? Decide that
ahead of time so youll chose the correct wick!
