Press down with thumbs on the two rear most latch points. Release the latches from the top cover.
Disconnect the keypad cable and set the PCA cover aside. If desired, the main PCA may be removed at
this time.

On left & right side of front of printer, release latches and lift gently. May need to gently shake or wiggle
to get top case loose.

Insert small flat-blade screwdriver in slot, push to release latch. Wiggle that side loose. Insert driver in
other slot, release latch & wiggle loose. Rotate left side case about tabs on left side.
Remove.

Carefully lift ZIF connectors to loosen carriage flex cable connections, disconnect flex cables from
carriage PCA.
ZIF Connectors
Grasp the trailing cables as closely as possible to the connector on the carriage PCA. (may need needlenosed pliers to grasp the cables) Disconnect trailing cables from carriage PCA.
Note: carriage PCA may be removed and replaced with a new PCA without PPS adjustment, if the
removal and replacement are done with the carriage still installed in the printer and no other changes
requiring a PPS adjustment are made.

Encoder Strip
Check encoder strip for grease or dirt spots. If present, discard encoder strip. Otherwise, consider
cleaning the encoder strip.
Loosen 3 screws connecting carriage rod to printer base and service station. May need to move carriage
to access all screws.

Wiggle and rotate service station until it will come out from the front of the printer
Connectors
Disconnect wiring harness from paper motor bracket, using needle nose pliers

Rotate front end of bracket upward, gently pull toward front of printer to remove

Rotate the lower paper guide forward to release 3 catches on the bottom of the printer

After the above parts are removed, there are only a few that may be changed without requiring
PPS. These include
Carriage motor
Encoder strip spring
Cable harness with duplexer interconnect PCA
Rod clips (qty 2, recommended to keep from losing)
Unpivot absorbers and wicks (careful removal required)
Lifter spring and lifter spring sleeve

Wicks
Use needlenose pliers to remove wicks. Discard wicks. Note: wick removal is needed to remove the
unpivot assembly from the printer.
If desired, use needlenose pliers and/or small flatblade screwdriver to remove unpivot absorbers. Use a
light touch to avoid damaging the unpivot. Discard absorbers.
Remove lifter spring and lifter spring sleeve
Use screwdriver to remove lifter spring and sleeve from the pressure plate lifter and the left sidewall

Remove backbone
Check to see that all cable harness connections to the backbone have been disconnected
If desired, remove the carriage motor and/or encoder strip spring

Remove backbone
Remove upper paper guide (requires anti-rotation assembly to be removed, but backbone may still be in
place, if desired)
Use a small flatblade screwdriver to remove 4 pinch springs
Carefully rotate and slide the UPG out the rear of the printer. Part is fragile. Be sure OOPS/DOOPs flag
is not caught when removing the UPG.

Hinge

When hinge end of guide is loose, gently pull guide loose from printer. Be careful to avoid damaging the
anti-static brush

Discard wicks.
Unsnap snap at right end of unpivot, using a small flatblade screwdriver to lift the lower arm of the U.

Snap Area
Use flatblade screwdriver to lift snap on the pusher rail, slide camshaft to the right and lift out.
Slide pusher until the flats match with retention features in the pusher rail.

To remove absorber, slide small flatblade driver down side of absorber, gently lift and pull. May need to
lift over parts of absorber to clear details in the pusher rail.

Remove spring
Unlock two polar bearings, one at either side wall (right one is black and on outside face of side wall while
left one is white and on inside face of wall.

Replace the pusher, matching flats to retaining features on the pusher rail and then sliding the pusher to
the left. Be sure the pushers are oriented as shown.

Place camshaft on pusher rail, then slide to the left to catch the snap.
Verify that cam surfaces on camshaft and pusher are properly oriented to one another so pushers have
full range of movement.

Notice the semi-circular notch in the edge of the lifter closest to the rear of the printer. This notch will fit
into the step in the shaft of the separator peg.
Install the lower paper guide. Keep the separator pad depressed to engage the separator lifter
Ensure all 3 catches on the lower paper guide are inserted into their slots on the printer base. After all 3
catches are in place, rotate the LPG and latch the 2 latches on the rear of the printer. Be certain that the
separator lifter and peg are engaged properly and fully seat the lifter. Check that the separator pad drops
when the plever is depressed this is needed for paper picking.
