Study on Efficiency Analysis of the Solar

Photovoltaic System at Tainan DARES, COA1
Chung, J. Y., C. Lee and C. F. Yang2

Abstract
The efficiency of solar photovoltaic system at Tainan District Agricultural Research and
Extension Station (DARES), Council of Agriculture was analyzed and evaluated in this study.
A 10.71kWp amorphous silicon thin-film system with 20% transparency and two silicon panel
systems with 12.69 kWp and 22.56 kWp capacities are included in the solar photovoltaic system.
The radiation data between 2012 and 2014 collected from the climate station located at Tainan
DARES were used for analyzing and evaluating the efficiency of the solar photovoltaic system.
The performance rate of the solar photovoltaic system was 84.2% in 2012, 77.2% and 78.7%
respectively in 2013 and 2014. The mean performance rate was 79.9% between 2012 and 2014
with 78.1% in the 10.71kWp amorphous silicon thin-film system, 82.0% and 79.7% respectively in
the12.69kWp and 22.56kWp silicon panel systems. The efficiency of amorphous silicon thin-film
system was a bit lower than silicon panel ones in the solar photovoltaic system at Tainan DARES,
COA between 2012 and 2014.
What is already known on this subject?
With installation cost down and government promotion, the application for solar photovoltaic
system is becoming popular in Taiwan.
What are the new ndings?
Radiation data collected from the climate station were used for analyzing and evaluating the
efficiency of the amorphous silicon thin-film and silicon panel solar photovoltaic systems.
What is the expected impact on this eld?
The efficiency of the solar photovoltaic system would be rising with performance rate
checking and proper maintenances. It would also prolong the operating period and increase the
profit of the solar photovoltaic system.
Key words: Photovoltaic, Amorphous silicon, Transparency
