The SDS Advanced Standing Dentist Bench Exam Review Course has established a reputation for
being extremely detailed and thorough. Our courses maintain an excellent balance between
classroom (lecture) and hands-on (laboratory) sessions. Most of our past participants have
performed in to top 10-20% on the Bench Exam the very first time after taking our courses. Many
of our participants have attended other courses or tried to practice on their own and have failed to

1. Take the Stevenson Dental Solutions Bench Review Course as soon as
possible. We offer a 5-day course 4 times per year. The courses have
LIMITED ENROLLMENT, and will fill quickly, so take the first step towards
admission into an Advanced Standing Dentist Program today.
2. Practice what you've learned in the course.
Like everything else that requires a great amount of skill, the Bench Exam
takes many hours of practice after taking our course. We offer feedback
sessions and critical analysis of your homework on a one-on-one basis
after the course.
3. Take at least three Mock Bench Exams.
At the completion of each course, we hold a Mock Bench Examination.
We also arrange special Mock Boards for small groups and even
individuals throughout the year.
We are confident that you will indeed succeed if you perform the three steps above. We have had
numerous dentists go through our program, perform very well on the Advanced Standing Dentist
Bench Exam and have obtained admission into one of the many U.S. 2-3-year Advanced Standing

Course Director and Instructor

Richard G. Stevenson III, DDS, FAGD, FACD, ABOD

Dr. Stevenson is a full Professor of Clinical Dentistry and the Chair of the Section of
Restorative Dentistry at UCLA and has been teaching candidates to perform at an
exceptional level on bench examinations since 1992.

One of only 55 ABOD Certified Dentists in the world, receiving Board Certification in
Operative Dentistry from the American Board of Operative Dentistry.

Authored over 30 published manuscripts, and 7 clinical guides and two textbook
chapters in the area of Restorative Dentistry.

WREB calibrated faculty and consultant for the California Dental Board on the Class III
Composite and Fixed Prosthodontics Sections of the licensing examination.

Author of Complications in Restorative Dentistry: Best Practices (Wiley Publishing,

released June 2016).

Author of Cast Gold Restorations in Summitts Fundamentals of Operative Dentistry:

A Contemporary Approach, 4th edition (Quintessence Publishing 2013).

Mentors five Restorative Study Clubs, in the Asia, South America and the United
States, frequently demonstrating esthetic restorations and cast and direct gold procedures
on patients to audiences.

Director and Creator of the UCLA 2-year Advanced Clinical Training Program, which
trains dentists in advanced restorative techniques which leads to dental licensure pathways
in the United States.

This course has it all! It is targeted for those dentists who would like to review the specific criteria
required on the various Bench Exams given for ranking of Advanced Standing Dentist Programs in
a short period of time. The foundational course is held over two weekends, on Friday evening and
all day Saturday and Sunday (except for the October Course). The After-Course sessions include
3 mock bench exams and evaluations, three evening practice sessions and three 30-minute
consultations with Dr. Stevenson all included in our low tuition fee!

To give you the best possible learning experience, all of our courses maintain a 1:10 instructor:
student ratio. Class Size is LIMITED TO TEN DENTISTS. Courses are extremely popular and fill
quickly, so sign-up early to reserve your space.
Lab Learning Facilities
We have two training centers, in Burbank and Beverly Hills, California, conveniently located in the
Los Angeles area, close to both Los Angeles International (LAX) and Burbank Bob Hope (BUR)
Airports. Limited parking is free at both centers during the weekend course dates. During the
weekdays, the Beverly Hills facility charges $20 for parking all day, with lower cost options nearby.
Please inform us if you plan to use your own vehicle and require a parking space. Lab Practice will
be available on a first come first served basis during the selected evenings for $20 per day.
Course Requirements
A complete list of supplies and comprehensive course syllabus will be sent to you upon receipt of
your full course tuition. The supply lists are extensive and you will need to purchase all of the
required supplies prior to the first day of the course. Safety is key and all participants will follow
our guidelines during the course events. Protective gowns, gloves and masks are provided by the
course. All participants must wear Protective Personal Equipment during the hands-on portion of
the course, including protective eyewear or loupes.

Manikins (Bench-mounted)
Some bench exams require you to work on the manikin. We have bench-mounted manikins at
both facilities to accommodate those interested in this option during the course. Each course
participant will be given one RGS Instrument set (designed by Dr. Stevenson in 1996 with
thousands sold) to keep with your paid registration in the course.

Mock Bench Exams

During the course, a Mock Bench Exam will be given with written and verbal feedback near the
course completion. Three (3) additional 3-hour Mock Bench Exams are included in the course fee
and will be scheduled in the evenings per our schedule, and these are included in the course
tuition. If you wish to challenge additional Mock Bench Exams (more than the four included in the
course package) you may do so at the fee of $300 (cash only) after the course pending space
availability.
Consultations 30 minutes
As part of the course tuition you are given three 30-minute free consultations with Dr. Stevenson
not tutoring, but feedback on your preps, etc, including interview advice. Additional consultations
are available at the tutoring rate (see Private Tutoring).
Private Tutoring
Dr. Stevenson provides one-on-one expert tutoring at the rate of $240 per hour, with numerous
convenient times at our lab learning facilities after the course completion. We have additional
tutors with expert knowledge and skills ranging from $90 175/hour. All tutoring fees must be paid
in cash.
Food and Beverages
During each day of the course, a continental breakfast and light lunch will be proved along with a
wide variety of beverages and snacks. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions and we will try
to accommodate your needs.
Transportation
Participants are required to find their own transportation, and the LA area has numerous options:
car rental, taxi, Uber, and public transportation.
Accommodations
The Los Angeles area offers many affordable temporary-lodging possibilities. Our Burbank and
Beverly Hills Learning Facilities have many hotels nearby. We have made special arrangements
with a few hotels for discounted rates during your course time at SDS. More information will be
sent upon registration.

Early Registration Discounts

Payments date stamped at least 30 days prior to the start of the course will be discounted 10%,
with cash payments also receiving a 10% discount. We also offer some payment plans on the
course tuition only, for student-dentists requiring educational assistance.
Cancellation Policy
In the event a course is cancelled, SDS will refund the full tuition. Refunds will be given (less a
cancellation fee of $500) if written notification is received at least ten working days prior to the
program or unless otherwise specified. If you have paid for a course, then find that you cannot
come; you may transfer your funds to a future course without penalty.
