PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT

All living beings

including humans interact very closely with their
environment.Among millions of living beings man

alone
has
the
capacity
to
change
the
environment,often with deleterious effects to
himself and other living beings.
Today, there is an
increased global awareness on environmental
issues and the need for environmental protection
across the globe.Studies on environmental issues
have now become a part of curriculum.India
holds a rich tradition of protecting nature from
ancient period onwards which is evident in all
available sources. In due course of time there was
a gradual loss of concern for nature and
environment. This is clearly seen in the early
phase of the colonial period.Independent India
has followed the path of progress set by their
colonial masters which at times have resulted in
serious environmental crisis.
A dream may be, yet
we can hear the clarion call of the green forest
around
us..............silent.........still.........pensive......In
our urge to grow,to keep pace with the scientific
and
technological
advancements
we
have
inflicted many fatal wounds on mother earth,a
sacred place holding our human beginnings. It is
necessary to instill in the young minds the
urgency and necessary to preserve strong
ecosystems
vibrating
with
deep
ecoconsciousness.
Today,there is a growing
awareness among people all over the world that

we
are
facing
an
ecological
crisis.The
manifestation of this crisis is many and
varied. The earth is being polluted and destroyed
through
wasteful,profligate
and
predatory
practices by modern profit oriented, scientific and
technological culture.Pollution dates back to the
prehistoric times when man created the first
fire.It was the industrial revolution that gave
birth to environmental pollution as we know it
today. The emergence of great factories and
consumption of immense quantities of coal and
other fuels gave rise to unprecedented air
pollution and the large volume of industrial
chemical discharges added to the growing load of
untreated human waste.Chicago and Cincinnati
were the first two American cities to enact laws
ensuring cleaner air in 1881.Indias remarkable
growth record, has been deteriorated by a
degrading environment and growing scarcity of
natural resources.Mirroring the size and diversity
of Indian economy, environmental risks are wide
ranging and are driven by both prosperity and
poverty.
Together let us strive to
promote quality of human life on earth in
communion
with
our
natural
environment.Together, let us aim to create an
awareness of the need to use the natural
resources of mother earth in a more responsible
manner.Let us vow to respect, nurture, and
sustain everything in nature with love and
compassion.
