SCOPE
1.1Scope.Thisspecificationpresentsrequirementsforacobaltbase
chromiumnickeltungstenalloywithlanthanumadditions.

Classification.
Thisspecificationcontainsthefollowingclass(es).
Unlessotherwisespecified,therequirementshereinapplytoallclasses.
CLASSA
1.2Definitions.Forthepurposeofthisspecification,thefollowing
definitionsshallapply:
CapabilityThewords"shallbecapableof"or"capabilitytest"indicate
characteristicsorpropertiesrequiredintheproductbutforwhich
testingofeachlotisnotrequired.However,ifsuchtestingis
performedbythePurchaser,materialnotconformingtotherequirements
shallbesubjecttorejection.
PurchaserTheprocuringactivityofCompanythat
issuedtheprocurementdocumentinvokingthisspecification.Whenthis
specificationisinvokedbyaUAEGovernmentpurchasingactivity(or
suchactivity'sdesignee)thePurchasershallmeansuchactivityor
designeeasthecasemaybe.
SupplierSourceotherthanCompanywhoprovides
material,partsorservices,forincorporationintoCompanyproducts.

1.3RegulatedMaterials.TherequirementsofP2TF1,CLA,shall
becompliedwith.Thematerial(s)shownbelowwerereferencedin
thisspecificationandP2TF1,CLA,asofthedateofthis
specificationissue.Thelistbelowdoesnotincludeall
materialswhicharereferencedinsubtierdocuments.

3.1.1ChemicalAnalysis.Theanalysismadebythesupplierto

bereportedinthecertificateoftestspecifiedherein.
3.2HeatTreatment
3.2.1HeatTreatTemperature.Allheattreattemperaturesrefer
tometaltemperature25F(14C).Alltimesrefertotimeat
temperaturefortheheaviestsection.
3.2.2MillAnneal.Materialshallbemillannealedat2150F
(1177C)andrapidcooled.

3.3MechanicalProperties

3.3.2.1StressRuptureTesting.Stressrupturetestingmaybe
conductedatstresslevelshigherthanthatspecifiedprovided
allothertestconditionsaremaintained.Thespecifiedlifeand
elongationrequirementsshallapplyandthestressshallremain
constantwhilethetestisinprogress.Specificstressesused
shallbereportedinthesupplier'scertificateoftest.
3.4MaterialCondition,Bar.Barandrodshallbehotorcold
finished,annealedinaccordancewithCLASSA,anddescaled
unlessmillannealingisperformedinanatmosphereyieldinga
brightfinish;barsshallbegroundorturned.Forgingsshallbe
asordered.
3.4.1BarShapes.Barsshapescutfromplateareacceptable.When
cutfromplate,barsshallbecutfromthestockinan
orientationparalleltothedirectionofprimarywork.
3.4.2MaterialCondition.FlashWeldedRings.Flashweldedrings
shallnotbesuppliedunlessspecifiedorpermittedon
Purchaser'spartdrawing.
3.5Hardness.Materialshallhaveamaximumroomtemperature
hardnessofRockwellC24orequivalentinaccordancewithASTME
140.Thishardnessrequirementiswaivedforrod0.25inch(6.35
mm)andunderindiameter,manufacturedascoilandstraightened
afterannealing.

3.6FlashWeldedRings.Flashweldedringsshallconformtothe
technicalandapprovalrequirementsofAMS7490exceptwelded
ringsshallbeannealedat2150F25(1177C14)andrapidly
cooledbeforeprooftesting.Weldtestingmaybeperformedon
materialthathasnotbeenprooftested.
3.7GrainSize.Bars,forgings,andflashweldedrings(excluding
weld)shallhaveanaveragegrainsizeofASTMNo.3orfiner,
withgrainsaslargeas0.010inch(0.25mm)(ASTMNo.1)
permissible.Forbarsandflashweldedrings,theaslargeas
grainsshallonlybeevaluatedinanorientationtransverseto
thedirectionofprimarywork.
3.8OxidationResistance.Materialshallbecapableofmeeting
thefollowingoxidationrequirements:
(a)Affectedmetal(thatmetalconvertedtooxidescaleplusany
continuousintergranularoxidation)shallnotexceed0.003inch
(0.076mm),.0015inch(0.038mm)persideaverage.
(b)Specimensdisplayinglocalizedareasgreaterthan0.062inch
(1.57mm)diameterwithexcessiveoxidationattack,unlessattack
canbeattributedtocontactwithceramicsupports,shallbe
consideredinvalidandthetestshallbererun.Ifthecondition
isduplicated,materialshallbesubjecttorejection.
3.9Tolerance.TolerancesshallconformtoAMS2261as
applicable.
3.9.1Tolerances.Forgings.Tolerancesshallbeasinaccordance
withapplicabledrawings.
3.10Quality.Materialshallbeuniforminqualityandcondition,
clean,sound,andfreefromforeignmaterialsandfrominternal
andexternalimperfectionsdetrimentaltofabricationorto
performanceofparts.
3.11Identification
3.11.1Bar.Eachbarunder2inches(50.8mm)indiameteror
distancebetweenparallelsidesshallbetaggedwiththisCompany
specificationnumber,classandissuenumber,heatnumberand
size.Largersizebarshallbestampedwiththeabove
information.Allbarstockbundlesorboxesshallhavethe
identifyingpurchaseordernumber,heatnumber,andthisCompany
specificationnumber,classandissuenumberclearlymarkedon
theoutsidewithatag.
3.11.2Forgings.Allforgingsshallbemarkedinaccordancewith
therequirementsofAMS2808.

3.12CertificateofTest.ThematerialSuppliershallretaina
certificateoftestforeachshipmentofpartssuppliedtothis
specification.
TheSuppliershallcertifyallchemicalandmechanicaltests
specifiedherein.
Thecertificateoftestshallincludethenumericalresults(or
conformancecertificationwhennumericalresultsarenot
applicable)ofallrequiredtestsandinspectionsperformedby
thematerialSupplierandshallshowthattheresultsarein
accordancewiththerequirementsherein.ThematerialSupplier
shallcertifycapabilityforalltestsandinspectionsdesignated
byacapabilityrequirementherein,andastatementofthe
capabilityshallbeincludedinthecertificateoftest.In
addition,thecertificateoftestshallincludethefollowing
information:
(a)Purchaseordernumber
(b)Heatnumbers
(c)Sizesandquantities
(d)Testingsourcefortensileandstressrupturespecimens
(e)Specifystressrupturestressused
(f)ThisCompanyspecificationnumber,class,andissuenumber
4.QUALITYASSURANCEPROVISIONS
4.1ChemicalAnalysis.Chemicalanalysesshallbeperformedin
accordancewithASTMstandardsormethodsapprovedbythe
Purchaser.
4.2ChemicalCheckAnalysis.Chemicalcheckanalysislimitsshall
beinaccordancewithAMS2269exceptthevariationlimitsfor
tungstenshallbe0.10percent.
4.3MechanicalProperties
4.3.1TestSpecimens
4.3.1.1Bar.Forbar1.5inch(38.1mm)andunderindiameteror
distancebetweenflats,thespecimenaxisshallcoincidewiththe
centralaxisofthematerial.Forbarover1.5inch(38.1mm),
thespecimenaxisshallbelocatedmidwaybetweenthecenterand
thesurfaceandshallbeparalleltothedirectionofrolling.
4.3.1.2ForgingsAndFlashWeldedRings.Specificlocationsof
specimensfromforgingsandflashweldedringsshallbeapproved
bythePurchaser.
4.3.2Tensile.Tensiletestsshallbeperformedinaccordance
withtheapplicablerequirementsofASTME8.

4.3.2.1RefereeTensileTests.Forrefereetensiletests,a
strainrateof0.005inch/inch/minute(0.005mm/mm/minute)
throughthe0.2percentyieldstrengthshallbeused.
4.3.3StressRupture.Stressrupturetestsshallbeperformed1n
accordancewiththeapplicablerequirementsofASTME139.
4.4HardnessTesting.Hardnesstestsshallbeperformedin
accordancewiththeapplicablerequirementsofASTME18.
4.5GrainSize.Grainsizeshallbedeterminedinaccordancewith
E50TF133,CLC.
4.6OxidationResistance.Oxidationtestspecimensshallbe
preparedandtestedasfollows:
(a)SpecimenPreparation
(1)Specimenshallhaveaminimumsurfaceareaof1.5square
inches(968squaremm)availableforexposureinexcessof
materialrequiredforfixturing.
(2)Handpolishbothsidesusing120gritorfinersilicon
carbidepaper.
(3)Specimenthicknessshallthenbemeasuredwithin
0.0003inch(0.0076mm).
(4)Degreasespecimen.
(b)TestConditions
(1)Testtemperature:2000F25F(1093C14C)
(2)Time:4cyclesof25hours1hourattemperatureand
aircooledto300F(149C)orlessforatotalof100hours4
hoursattemperature.
(3)Specimensmaybepartiallyinsertedintoinertceramic
bricksorsuspendedfrominertceramicrodsandshallnotbe
placedincrucibles.
(4)Heatspecimensinamuffleorcomparablefurnacewhich
providesnaturalconvectionairflowsuchthattherequired
surfaceareasareequallyexposed.
(c)ExaminationofExposedSpecimens
(1)Testspecimensshallbecrosssectionedand
metallographicallyexaminedat500Xmagnificationminimuminthe
aspolishedconditiontodetermineconformancetothecapability
requirementsof3.8.
5.PACKAGING
5.1Packing.Materialshallbeseparatedbysizeandheatnumber
andshallbepackedtopreventdamage,lossorcontamination
duringhandling,shippingorstorage.
5.2Marking.Eachshipmentshallbelegiblymarkedwiththe
purchaseordernumber,manufacturer'sname,sizes,heatnumbers,
andthisCompanyspecificationnumber,class,andissuenumber.
