Basic Greetings and Phrases

Guten Morgen -> Good Morning
Guten Tag -> Good Day (normally used as a greeting, not in the sense of "Have a good day")
Guten Abend -> Good Evening (same here, more a greeting)
Gute Nacht -> Good Night
Hallo -> Hello
Tag -> Day
Tschss/Tschau -> Bye/Bye
Auf Wiedersehen -> Goodbye (in person)
Auf Wiederhren -> Goodbye (on phone)
Bis spter -> See you later (lit. Until later)
Bis bald -> See you soon
Bis morgen -> See you tomorrow
Bitte (sehr, schn) -> Please/You're welcome
Danke (schn) -> Thank you (very much)
Es tut mir leid. -> I'm sorry
Entschuldigen Sie! -> Excuse me!/I beg your pardon!
Wie geht es Ihnen? -> How are you? (formal)

Wie bitte? -> What? (It is considered rude to just come out and say "Was?"!)
