Guidelines for Major Project Phase I

(BE)
All the students of B.E. final year are hereby informed that they have to submit two spiral
bounded copies of the project report, duly signed by Project Guide and HOD.
The spiral Bounded report must be of Blue color at the back.
Use Main cover page and Certificate as provide by Department.
Project report should be computer typed 12pt. font size, Times New Roman, 1.5
line Spacing, Top margin 1, Bottom margin 1, Left margin 1.5, Right margin 1. All headings
should be 16pt Times New Roman and subheadings 14pt. All the tables should have header and
figures should have footer and should be numbered. Figures if taken from somewhere must be
referred properly.
Note: Necessary changes as per printing requirements in the report are accepted, page are
to be numbered in Arabic Numerals from Chapter 1 onwards, please do not forget to
justify text.

REPORT ORGANIZATION

1. Main Cover Page in Format supplied.

2. Declaration by student about originality in format supplied.
3. Certificate of Originality from Guide, HOD as per draft supplied.
4. Table of Contents with page numbers.
5. List of Figures with page numbers.
6. List of Tables with page number.
7. Acknowledgment.
8. Abstract: It should include summary containing important points like general
methodology and main conclusion of the work. No references, citation,
figures, general methodology, equations, etc are to be included in Abstract.
9. CHAPTER-I INTRODUCION should include subject introduction with
mathematical background wherever applicable, short review of present
work, review of previous work explained as background. Also include
Motivation, Objective of the Work. The Introduction must contain brief
description of the parameters of research parameters like BER, SNR,
Throughput and other parameters. Last paragraph must be devoted to
organization of the report.
10. Other Chapters are to be written to explain your work, formulation.
Literature survey (If any) methodology adapted to achieve objective,
innovations made by you with related derivations, Experiment/Programs
developed etc with explanations.
11. Hardware and software requirements.
12. Block Diagram and its description
This section give overview of the proposed work in solving the
problem e.g if problem is related with the transmission of signal then this
section should comprise of various blocks assembled to transmit the signal
etc.

13. Flowchart (if any)

14. Applications (100 Words Approx.)
This section must provide scope of the work. Where it is applicable? It
should also depict the variants if any and impact of the work on real life /
end user.
15. One chapter must be devoted to explain experiments stating all parameters
and method carried out and results of same. Wherever required, an exercise
of authentication of your method, the parameters of systems used in
experiments, and proper tables and figures are to be included.
16. Last chapter should be conclusion and / or future scope. Conclusion must be
drawn based on the study, derivation, experimental results etc, already
reported in other chapters of the thesis. The limitation of your results, if any
is also to be mentioned. Future scope to be mentioned along with
justification. A justification as how objectives mentioned in Introduction
above are met to be given.
17. References and Bibliography (IEEE Format)
18. Appendices: Data sheets (if any), Derivations, Theorems etc are to be given
if required. Software programming duly explained by comment lines. Add
Circuits design (if any), PCB layout (if any), Explanations (if any).
19. Other IMPORTANT points which must be kept in view
(i) Reference must be listed in format in papers by IEEE or IETE or as laid
down in paper of Mr. Ravi Kumar titled On writing a Thesis. IETE.
(ii) All items in references list must be referred in the text and serial number
of reference must be in same order as referred first time in the text.
(iii) All figures/tables/diagrams/graphs etc are to bear a specific number
chapter wise e.g. Fig 1.5, Fig 2.7 etc. All such things must have
meaningful caption and they must be explained in the main text referred
by their number. Writing to make figure etc to be a part of text to be
avoided e.g. The block diagram is given below.

(iv) All equations are to be numbered serially chapter wise in parenthesis

e.g
y= 1 + cos t ---------------------------------------------------------

(2.5)

(v) Write everything in your own language. Avoid copy paste completely.
Your writing should maintain a logical flow and connected parts. Justify
your statements with references wherever needed. All symbols,
abbreviations etc used must be explained in style followed in standard
books or papers.
(vi) Contact Guide/HOD for any kind of problems. You can also consult
guidelines given by IEEE at www.ieee.org for effective writing.

Note:
1. References to be cited in content within square brackets and list is to be put in same serial order as they are
referred for the first time.

2. Program Modules should be explained by Flow Charts.

3. All paragraphs/figures/tables etc in the project thesis if taken from any reference should be numbered at the
end like [reference no.] All references should be cited in the text in the same sequence as serial in
references.
4. Please do not copy equations from net or any other source, do write the equations in equation editor of MS
Word. All equations must be numbered chapter wise like X ( k ) 1 / N

N 1

X (n).e

j .2kn / N

----------- (7.2)

K 0

5. Get all thesis work checked in loose pages by guide, HOD and then will be allowed for final hard binding.
6. All figures/Tables/Block Diagram etc are to be given title, numbered and included nearest to their
mentioned text.
7. A satisfactory presentation is to be made in the Department to explain theory and results before final
submission.
