Shale We Dance,
Dear Gas?
In mid-September. Keg Resources (an independent British oil and gas

expensive to extract than traditional

place in 1821 in NewYork state in the

operation.
The world
Currently, the undisputed leader in
obtaining" energy from shale gas is the
United States. The first-ever extraction
for commercial use was started in 2002
and amounts have soared' ever since.
According to' a report prepared by
the Energy Information Administration, the largest perspective deposits'
are in China (36.1 trin ni3), Argentina

Poland comes second with 5.4 trin mt.
There are also significant amounts of
this energy source in France (5.1 trin
vit) and Norway (2.4 trin m u).
Full of controversies
Shale gas arouses,, many controversies,

In comparison with the currently

will be fully independent, as far as gas

Coaching expats
Coaching jj1s85
What are the g
esELqng,ial" competences
of the effective executive coach? This
is a challenging and important question. The necessary attributes of
a caps.je coach' are: communication
skills, interpersonal skills, self-manugumetir', coaching craft- (e.g. goui
ggggjn', planning, etc.), breadthr of
experience and technical skills.
However, the coach who is working
with expatriates should have a couple
of additional gggugg" as well - an apv
preciat on for' the culture of the client
and the host country, self-awareness'
in terms of" the coach's own cultural
background-. personal experience in
cultural adaptation and acculturation,
familiarity with' theory, research and
practice in cross-cultural psychology,
communication and management.
Although coaching is gaining more and
more popularitr and is a fast-growing"
business, there are several limitations
that need to be considered"'. Some
managers don't want to have a coach,
some don't respond well co' coaching, The client may become oueriy"
dependent on the coach (Iohitiing"

Conclusions
There's a clear need for professional
coaches who have broad knowledge
and experience in cross-cultural psychology, management and communication. Success of the biggest corporations depends on it, as it's the only
way to help the newly arrived expats
mesh with the foreign corporate culU
ture and everyday life.

This, in turn, can lead to a defensive reaction from the employee. The manager who is unaware' of correct feedback
techniques may then focus his or her
attention on' the employees 'negative
attitude to feedback and the whole
process becomes one of a laantint..of
wills.
To avoid this scenario it is therefore essential' that feedback is jriy',
specific and focuses on the behaviour
and not the person.Thin helps to concentrate on facts and consequences
rather than emotions. Furthermore,,,,
it can lead to thinking about desired'
outcomes and how these might be
achieved'.
A useful technique is DESC:
Describe - the situation
Explain - the consequences

Contract - make a firm commitment" about what you will do
For example: take the situation of

Explain: As a consequence', we lost
the contract.
adState: I need you to tell me
vance- if you are getting into time
so that we can work on it as
a department.
Contract: Do you agree to do that in
the future?
Each stage should also involve a twoway- dialogue which could include the
following examples:
Describe: What happened with the
contract on Friday? Is that a felt summary" of the situation?
Explain: What do you think were the
consequences of late delivery?
State: What should we do differently?
Contract: What do you commit to
do' differently in the future?
A really useful aspect of this template
is that apart from" being used by the
manager, it can be used as a self-assessment' tool by the employee, leading to
perhaps the uaitianat,t' goal' of coaching, to enable" people to self-coach

Additional problems
Another problem which continues no

interests them. H ghlighting popular

that the function kept recommending

Google and Twitter have struggled with

How often do you leave similar notes? How often does your husband do things
from this list? When you come back home and see that your partner lies on the
couch, dinner still waiting in the fridge, a pipe still broken, and you do not see
your children - you want to scream. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? If you waft until
you husband does it, it will take forever,
Our agency offers services which help you in life - a handyman. It is our so/ution.We rent you a man who helps to take rare of your children, cleans windows and hangs curtains in the house, and even repairs your car. He charges
you for an hourly rate.
In the fast-growing markets we do not have enough time to take care of repairs in the house or flat. People look for a person who will do it for them. You

Without doubt it is a new way to deal with your husband. These services are
not only for women. Many men know that this would solve their problems.
After 10 hours at work they are coo tired to take clothes to the laundry. Up

Services
The thing we need to admit is that,
in the fast-pacing world, the written
word is on the decline. In the United
States business people, physicians,
lawyers and scholars are more likely
to record a tape or any other kind
of media, making the documentation
process more efficient.This helps both
the clients and employees, and facilitates future reference. So fat though,
such recorded information serves littie purpose as it is not searchable. To
Have you ever wanted to have an aquarium? I am sure that almost everyone thinks about having this beautiful "tank" in their own place. My company
would make such dreams come true... From the beginning to the end, we can
design an aquarium, then build it and, of course, service the aquarium on the
spot.We can arrange a tank in different styles. Customer needs only to have
a general idea of what it should look like. My company will be providing three

Dear George
I run a small iggaLpractice'. Recently, I engaged' a new Legal
Ass istant.Typical ly, such people are studying to become a lawyer and take on this job to gain some practical experience.
The work often involves collecting and delivering court documents, some legal research, and secretarial duties'.
Despite app.aretit' intelligence my new assistant seems to
lack' basic common sense'. For example, recently, before
I arrived at work, she had left a client in my office alone
with no light on, a desk full of confidential,, papers and
without offering the client a drink. This is unacceptable".
What should I do to make my expectations" cleat"?

The solution
Dear B,
Being new to the world of employment, there may be
many things that your employee is unaware of" that you
take for granted'. The best approach would be to create
a skills matrix' of all the tasks you need her tepecform'.
You could then work through it" together giving a current
